The Official 2020 Cincinnati Reds Thread

They brought in Jim Edmonds and The Bengals aren’t a joke for signing Harrison. There’s many more reasons other than that
Not sure how respected the reds are. Seems like an overreach on your part. Edmunds wasn’t as big a fixture or hated as much as Molina or Harrison. Valiant effort though.

He was one of their best players for nearly a decade. You can also add Scott Rolen to that list as well. The Reds at least have a successful past, the Bengals have nothing

The Reds haven't won anything in thirty years now. They're respected by people who were alive during the Big Red Machine. I think most others view them as a losing organization.
Maybe respected isn’t the right word, but they’re certainly not a laughing stock like the Mets.

Two things on Molina. A. he's retiring a Cardinal B. Tyler Stephenson is going to be the everyday catcher for the Reds soon.

We always remember the guys who flop in Cincy, but we rarely recall why. I thought Edmonds was a good pickup, he just struggled. I also think anytime we bring a guy in, we feel like we're only going to see the best of that player, not the warts. Hence, Mike Moustakas. I think we thought he's be an all star. He's a .251 career hitter, .310 on base %. Now he did hit 35 homers last year in Milwaukee, but that was more than normal for him.

Edmonds was a cry baby about his entire Cincinnati experience. He admitted to playing hurt and then blamed Cincy team doctors for the fact that he got injured further.

Moustakas is a 3x All-Star including last season, so it really wasn't unreasonable to expect him to be one again.

It's not unusual for a player to take some shots going out the door, especially if the experience wasn't great. We don't know how things will unfold for Moustakas. I like him, he's a grinder and I think he's good for the clubhouse, but I thing most of us expected more of him this year. I'll be shocked if he's an all star in Cincy. I think he was brought in for the "Scott Rolen" effect.

No one said Moose would be an all star here. That’d be great, but the reds just need his bat to produce his career averages and his versatility to play several positions. He’s only 31, so it’s reasonable to expect him to stay in his prime years for at least another 2-4 years.

Moustakas was brought in for his post-season experience and batted .000 during the Braves series.

It actually is unusual for people to whine like Edmonds did, especially when he mostly did it to himself by playing hurt and playing the way he plays the game. Ken Griffey Jr didn't do that stuff in Cincinnati, even though his best days were behind him in Seattle.

I won't judge too much on this strange year. And I won't judge moose on going 0-fer during a 2 game series. I did expect more from him, and I'm sure he did too. As EP said, still in his prime, he will have more big years ahead.

Agreed - Edmonds was all-star level whining as he exited. I assumed he just wanted to win more points back in STL. After all, rivalries cut both ways.

He wasn't the only one that didn't play to the back of his baseball card. Moustakas had a Covid issue, then was hurt once or twice over the 60 games. Never got into a real groove. We'll tee it up next year. Still glad we have him.

Lol, of course he wasn’t the only one.
