The Pirates laid out a giant white flag of surrender to the Cardinals yesterday, but MLB made them finish their loss anyway.

The Pirates have been mathematically eliminated from NL Central contention.

The Reds’ magic number to eliminate @troyboy73 ’s Pirates from playoff contention and feed them to the cocaine sharks in south Florida is 7.

Apologies to the tumbleweeds for interrupting things here.

Pirates won 10 more games over last season. If they do the same next season, and I think they can/will they will be in wild card contention. Reds fans like to talk about their core of young talent I think the Bucs potential is just as good. Add the injured O’Neill Cruz and maybe Skenes to the 7-8 rookies that played relatively well this season. Not to mention vets Hayes, Reynolds, Suwinski maybe Andrew Mc for another season. I’ll take my chances.

Pirates had the youngest 25 man roster in MLB at the seasons end 26.1 yrs.

The Pittsburgh Pirates stunned the baseball world, including their own fan base, by agreeing to a one-year, $10.5 million contract with left-handed reliever Aroldis Chapman on Monday.

Speculation is this may result in a trade possibly sending Bednar to another team. The 1 year deal actually makes Chapman the highest paid Pirate.
Cannot imagine they trade Bednar. He is a great closer and is not a free agent until 2027. Trading him would be insane. PLus Chapman is not closer caliber anymore. A very curious move...

I agree. Bednar is a local boy and the most popular Pirate not named Cutch. The Pirates would have to get a lot in return for it to make sense for the franchise.

(WKBN) – Former Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Ed Ott has died at the age of 72.

The Pirates announced that he passed away in Danville, PA, but released no additional details.

“We are saddened by the loss of such a beloved member of the Pirates family,” Pirates president Travis Williams said in a statement. “Ed spent seven of his eight years in the major leagues with the Pirates and was a valued member of our World Series championship team in 1979.”
