I think you are totally right, and that's a very fair question. They might not agree to this and demand to be with the smaller schools IF this were to ever happen.

From a football perspective, I don’t think Burg has ever shied away from competition. Hell, they were scrimmaging Marion Local in the early 2000s…still scrimmage Anna every year.
Washington Courthouse week 1
Urbana week 2( Maybe the best team on their schedule)

Much bigger schools, I’d argue that Burg has been closer to beating state championship level teams than anyone in the league.

Minster in 2Ot on a controversial 2pt conversion maybe 2014 ?
Marion Local in 2015 ? Lost 9-7 on Late field goal @ Bellefontaine
I remember Local having 83 kids on the roster to Burgs 38, I think ML had an OT going to Notre Dame ?

What or who happens with future scheduling, I have no idea. But to make the assumption they are avoiding competition in my opinion is ridiculous.

Yep 2014 that was one of the best games I’ve ever seen. I stood by the end zone right where that 2pt conversion happened… still have no clue if he was in… that play could’ve gone either way and neither side would’ve been happy. The 2015 team I can confidently say if they meet any other team besides probably Marion Local or even Coldwater in that 3rd round matchup. I think Burg is playing at the horseshoe against Kirtland in the state championship

I don’t think anyone in their right mind is questioning Burg’s prior willingness to compete against tough competition. I only brought it up because of the what appears to be the direction that they want the conference to go (removing the best competition historically). I know very little about what Burg has in the cupboard the next few years, maybe it’s something else.

Off topic, but also maybe not…

Most small schools all go through cycles. Burg and WLS have had great runs in multiple sports, but I have to think at some point in the near future both are going to hit a bit of a lull. When the lull happens; I personally am a fan of taking your lumps against strong, local rivals. It’s fun turning the tides on teams and good for conference opponents.

In 2021, Northeastern hosted WLS. The Jets had lost 16 straight to the Tigers dating back to 2005. Their student section started chanting “West Lib Sucks!” and I remember our fans getting butthurt. I just chuckled, let them have that glory - they’ve earned it.

I'm not so sure they don't win that game against Kirtland.

I think Wls_color is making a friendly jab at a burg board member working behind the scenes to kick WLS from the league. Everyone knows burg has been a quality program.
But with that being said, hypothetically if the league did go big/small divisions, burg would be in the same position as Gview has been in for years.

Here's a hypothetical.

Is there one of the 3 finalists that would upset a current school to the extent that they would listen to overtures from the TRC to jump over?
as in... If GCC is the choice, would WLS consider it?
If it's Miami East, would SCC be upset its a big school and listen?

really, I'm just a TRC guy looking for chinks in the armor the TRC could exploit! We need an unhappy school (or 2 if you steal Riverside or East)

I’m pretty sure I know the board member who is definitely pushing all this nonsense out… This person is someone who people try to shy away from here in Burg. This person walks around thinking they are better than everyone else and that everyone else is stupid. This person also acted stupid during football games, I’m pretty sure in 2023 @ west Liberty after the game they tried to start a fight.

I don’t see WLS going anywhere, unless they decide on the CBC MRD at some point. That makes sense for them on so many levels, more so than the OHC in a lot of ways.

I also don’t think SCC would be upset with someone like Miami East. They seem to be a school who’s down with whatever.

One thing to consider about GCC - growth. They have 400+ kids on a waiting list to get in and that number will grow. They are adding on to the school now.

To familiarize myself with GCC, i have done some digging on the school website as well as “The Naz” church website.

It looks like they are investing in a new multipurpose basketball/weight room/locker room facility.

I am looking at google earth and i’m not seeing where they have the room on the Hoover campus to do much expansion. For them to grow, they would probably need to be on a separate campus from the feeder church.

As for the waiting list- wouldn’t doubt that across all grades. There seems to be an increase of interest in protestant secondary education, and a decrease in interest in catholic education (this is by no means a knock on my catholic brethren in here). I would attribute the interest in GCC to having a central location, and well as being 1 of 2 central ohio christian schools to have football. GCC probably pulls a lot of students from Pickaway county and west/southwest Columbus neighborhoods, such as Hilltop.

Enrollment wise, GCC looks similar to West Jefferson and Triad at the moment.

I think SCC would be fine with East. There is some history with East on the the schedule in soccer and wrestling. Now this is a new administration so how much that history means I don’t know but in the past both schools have worked together well.

Considering @ghsknightsfan research, is GCC a school the OHC really wants? Too much growth, too much of everything beyond what the current OHC schools offer. Hell, current OHC schools are in awe of turf fields while GCC is talking about weight room facilities, "sports complexes", and buildings. GCC could be an al a Gilmour Academy in 15 or so years. What other school in the OHC has a 400 student waiting list for enrollment? I would hate the OHC regretting their decisions five or so years from now based on the sexy nature of an upcoming school. What happens if GCC grows to a DIV or beyond and dominates the conference in all sports?
I see ME, MU, Riverside fairly solid in their school size and competitive status. Pick your poison when getting into private schools and what they bring. @BBfan61 hates the privates and so be it and he my be correct when aligning private into public...I get it. Fact, SCC will never be beyond a D6/D7 school but that WILL NOT be the case with GCC.

IMO.....

Sorry MU...you have been voted off the island. I love ya @Bless Em All but just a hunch.

ME, Riverside and God help us in the future GCC are the finalist

With that, I say the OHC keeps their roots, kills Riverside in an all sports decision and drops NE to the South and gives ME the nod to be the next victim in the North stacked division.

great analysis and i tend to agree on almost all of that.. i do think GCC growth will be capped. They have the demand, but don’t seem to have the room on the campus to expand much more than adding maybe a few classrooms.

However, if they were to add a “second” campus and move lower grade levels to free up space on the main campus.. sky could be the limit for them.

Waiting for @footballsalads43 input.

Is GCC a bust for the OHC? You two dudes are tops in my list of must reads.

I think this will really come down to if they will add that second campus or not. I really think this is altogether a risk of expanding closer and closer to Columbus for any league. Pretty much any school district within the Columbus metro and some of the surrounding counties are going to be expected to experience some growth as Columbus is being FLOODED with new population and more families are moving out of the City.

So heres the two scenarios I see.. if the GCC is capped and they can’t expand much further then I think the OHC will be perfectly fine, as long as they stay a D5 or below. I actually think they would be the best add considering all the sports they offer and their relative competitiveness is very fair for the OHC.

BUT, if they start to build extra campuses and start admitting more and more students that’s an issue… I’m not sure who In the OHC has open enrollment, but an expanded/bigger GCC will have access to the entire Columbus metro and can start pulling and recruiting kids left and right, almost no OHC school will have that.. especially considering some of Columbus best suburbs (Pickerington, Dublin and Hilliard) are all relatively easily drives to Grove City via I-270.. it could get ugly and I agree Gamma, could be a major bust (the Gilmour comparison is great). Honestly, it might not be worth the risk. With Miami East and Riverside you kind of know what your getting, but with GCC it’s a big question mark. Expanding more into the Columbus media market would be nice, but it shouldn’t be the top priority. If GCC does see this supposed growth they might be a better fit in the Central Buckeye League (not to be confused with the CBC lol), which is a mix of public/private schools.

Salad, I don't know where you came from but you have nice insight on the SW OH areas and on the other topics you post. You kind of read my mind initiating threads.

If not to intrude, do you care to share your background and where you have gained your knowledge? Keep in mind that @ghsknightsfan is the cat's meow to me and many others on the OHC and CBC threads, lol. Dude, I appreciate what you bring to the table and always look forward to your posts.

Appreciate it my friends! Yes, I am a Clinton County guy, I am actually mostly a Wilmington fan as I went to WHS (I am a late 2010's WHS Grad), however I had siblings who went to WHS before then when they were in the FAVC and SWOC. But, I support all four county schools pretty equally these days as I have friends from all of them. My family is mostly from Dayton originally, so I kind of picked up some information from them about the Dayton area teams. I attended undergrad in Cincinnati and went to a lot of local games during my time there, and I learned A LOT about Cincy HS Football. It is huge down there! They have great traditions, and rivalries. I now currently attend graduate school in Cleveland, and I am starting to get in-tune with the NE Ohio communities and athletic conferences. So I have been all over the place in Ohio! But my roots will always be in Clinton County!

Dude, you sounded like an old school guy but hey, it is what is :ROFLMAO: . LOVE YA and glad to see your posts and starting threads on other topics outside of SW OH. Maybe there is a hope for the younger generation.

Word of advice, careful treading in the Ginnville area.

YOU do educate this old man. Keep it up, love the posts

BTW, proud of you seeking that post grad education and still being grounded in the roots, posting, of OH HS football.
