It all starts with the admin. At one point (or currently) the top two fundraisers for Fenwick (festival and gala) were canceled, those play into recruiting big time.
McNicholas coach Mike Orlando is from Stuebenville. Pretty sure he knows what to expect. The 2024 team should be pretty good. I’m sure he expects a competitive game. The Alter-Big Red result in the post season also gives me some hope.
Top down it was ugly for a while. Fenwick fest is back, John 23rd their biggest feeder had a downswing but looks to be doing decent. I think they have plans of starting back their own football program (they were with the Golden Bears for a few years due to participation) this year or next. The admin was just lazy for a while. Think they cancelled 8th grade day for a few years. Seems like they get it now but we'll see. McNick and Badin are thriving and Fenwick should be just as compelling with a lot of nearby schools to draw students from.
And McNick is D3. After reviewing the slate of Region 12 schools and what the Rockets return I think they have a shot.
Saw on another thread that the Rockets may be adding a couple of Junior transfers from St.X who are reportedly pretty good. Every little bit helps.
I grew up in Western Pa. so I’m familiar with Stuebenvilles pedigree. My HS never played them but we scheduled several that did.
good old 10” oh well. Slogans and “tough rhetoric” seems to be the only thing of importance at the little Falcons right now. Oh and what travel socks and undershirts. I guess building the program up starting with apparel

I'm jealous I never got to play a night game at McNick, think you all were having some dispute with the neighborhood about lights or something back then so it was Saturday at noon, felt like a JV game and both teams were really good that year.
Was that the 14-13 game where your guy missed the extra point? My son was either a Sophomore or Junior that year. Yeah the neighbors were being little bitc…You think if you bought a house 100 feet from a high school there might be some noise occasionally.
It was the shootout 45-44 I think we missed a 2 pt conversion going for the W in 2OT. McNick QB played out of his mind, he was unstoppable.
I recall that game 2012. My son was a sophomore and blew his knee out game 2 at Turpin. McNick QB was Austin Ernst. The game I referenced was 2014.
That was a GAME. Still frustrated about the two point conversion, our TE was wide open under the goal post. Mr. Davis locked onto Catrine and forced the pylon throw. Ernst was legit, almost stayed in 5 wide the entire day.
Yes Mike Orlando. I believe he started @2011 after Klonne retired. I don’t see him leaving ever, loves the place and now has a Senior and incoming Freshmen (I’ve been told he’s legit) playing.
Yes the kid that replaced Ernst (Sulken) was a good athlete and more of a running QB. He switched from WR and was learning the position. His Senior year he was lights out in the Rockets 9-1 season.
No idea on the coach but I remember Ernst could sling the rock my head was spinning. John Luke with his hands in the air haunts my nightares. Season turned around after that though so it's all good.
Looks like the Harvey twins ,ST X transfers, are participating in the Summer workouts. Rising Juniors. According to StX thread one or both were likely starters if they stayed so perhaps a very good addition to what is a talented team. Probably only eligible for the first half of the season if I understand the transfer rules.
My guess is they'll try something around all boys vs. co-ed to get them eligible. Not sure if any of that every works, but I'm sure they'll try whatever they can.
