GCL Coed 2024

CJ has always struggled at Badin. A lot of heartbreakers that I can remember. They’ve only won 4 times in Hamilton since 2000. 3/4 being 2000 (lost in regional final), 2002 (state champs), 2004 (lost in regional final). Some of their best teams. 2016 is the other when Badin was down.

Freshmen:

Elder 14 (A)
McNick 7

Rockets stood toe to toe with the Panthers. Thought we were playing the B team but Elder played their 1s for 4 quarters. About 40 players never saw the field. Future is bright in Mt Washington.

I can't even begin to tell you how many people over the years have been excited for their kid to start Elder football as a freshman only to see the disappointment grow as they only focus on 10-15 kids throughout the entire season. They hook into the "studs" in the grade, and rarely give any real opportunity to any of the kids on the 2nd and 3rd teams.

It literally amazes me that they still are doing this with their freshman teams, especially when they are so lacking in depth. It makes no sense. But if that's the decision they want to continue to make, among others, the results will continue to be average. They don't recruit broadly and they don't develop a deep bench. You get what you get.

I know the Freshmen coach. He was expecting a B team game and sat out two of his better players who were a little banged up. The RB #1 and QB #2 for Elder impressed me right away and I’m thinking the A players must be damn good. In any case with 40+ kids on the sideline I expected some others to rotate in..I didn’t see much of that but I’ll accept that it happened. I guess not taking a knee at the end and RB1 running 90 yards against a bunch of 140lb linemen ticked me off🥴. By the way that made the final 21-7 I misspoke in my comment.

That's pretty funny that @Mad Dogg said McNick requested an A game when the McNick coach didn't even know it was a A game. Doesn't add up.

My sense is that Elder saw the lopsided St X B game score when X played McNick and wanted no part of that. What happened in the St X game that McNick beat them up so bad?

Not sure ,X scored first and it kind of went downhill for them after that. McNick seemed to do whatever they wanted on offense. Maybe X was playing their C/D team, certainly had enough Freshmen to do that. Lol

The kids were happy to play the A team. You don't get better otherwise. Elder was clearly better but McNick kept it close and was driving to tie the game late in the 4th Quarter.

#85 DE for Elder is very good. He dominated the first couple drives and really the first half.

I'm sure they were, the kids don't care.

But it's pretty obvious someone isn't telling the truth here. There's no way McNick's coach didn't know it was an A game (not saying he's the one who's lying).

I don't think anyone is lying. I doubt it was discussed. McNick coach probably thought that based on the St. X game and Elder playing Chatard Saturday. I know the kids didnt know what to expect and didn't care.

Fair enough, but I find it hard to believe that the McNick coach thought it was and prepared for a B game, only to say to Elder "let's play an A game" at game time. That makes no sense.

Again, someone is making things up, and it's not the McNick coach.

My guess is McNick thought they were playing the B team ( as they always have recently) but it was suggested by Elder or McNick to play A instead at pregame. The kids don’t care, they had already played the first team of two D1 teams prior.

For sure - but I have a guess on where the request came from knowing what McNick did to St X B.

At the end of the day, Elder should be looking for ways to play more kids, not less, in freshman football. The only goal in freshman football should be to develop as many kids as possible to keep them engaged in the program. Records and scores are meaningless. You need to develop more kids.

But then they will wonder why 40% of the team quits.

Badin’s freshmen team is undefeated. Just beat up on Harrison. I believe they always finish the season with McNick? Should be a good one.

Next Wednesday at McNick. Badin beat McNick week 2 I believe but it was 0-0 at halftime so could be interesting.

Anyone know if Carroll carries their games live on line in any available venue? Not really interested in a 100+ mile round trip for what I expect will happen this evening. I subscribe to nfts (whatever) but don’t see it on the Carroll website.

Bobo out with an injury. He walked off so maybe just a precaution given the score.
