GCL Coed 2024

I have tried to explain to people on here for many years how the small catholic schools get their students. They will pick up on the fact that they are coming from 5-6 feeder schools not knowing that may be 15 boys in a class.
They see Moeller and X getting kids from everywhere and instantly think all privates do it. Moeller's 2 best football/baseball players live 5 minutes from Badin HS.
That is not to say these schools don't get kids from outside their area but it's not like most perceive.
There’s also a thought that only private schools recruit. There’s another school on Beechmont Avenue who wears black and orange. They bring kids in from all over.

Correct. I live at the corner of West Clermont/ Milford school districts there are several families nearby who send their student athletes (and non athletes)to Anderson. I assume Withrow/ Turpin and Walnut Hills as well.

It would be one thing if they were just sending their kids there but it’s entirely different when a coach is reaching out to all the best kids at any school where there is a coaching change.

Who cares who recruits. Ginn Academy recruits kids from all over the greater Cleveland area. A D4 school just beat St. Eds. The OHSAA isn't going to do anything about it. They're way to busy squeezing every cent off the backs of kids.

Just was checking the league website and have to ask what has happened to the athletic program at Fenwick? My gosh they are in last place in most every sport. All sports trophy they are way behind the other schools????? Wow!

A lot of it has to do with the administration. Gave up on a lot of money-making attractions like the ultra-successful Fenwick Festival. Add in the fact that many families in the Middletown part of the Fenwick "territory" cannot afford to send their kids to a private school. BFHS gets a lot of the kids from the south like Liberty Twp., West Chester Twp., and Mason.

Ed Choice actually makes Fenwick very affordable for Middletown residents, dang near free. I think Middletown having strong hires in football and basketball has slowed down the attrition to Fenwick in those two sports, as they lost quite a few kids in the offseason in football after Mueller left.

Give Fred a few more seasons to get the program under control and it will work out to the Falcons. A lot of young talent that can be promising in the future. This season is dissapointing so far, but I don't hate it. Look at the bigger picture

McNick Frosh played at St. X this evening. X had about 90 Freshmen dressed so basically they were playing their B and maybe C team. McNick was ahead 27-6 at halftime and won 34-6 (second half was basically Bs v Bs.) I’m aware that Badin is the only other Coed team fielding a Frosh team. The Rockets have 4-5 Freshmen that I believe could play varsity right now, add that to 6-7 Sophomores currently seeing a lot of varsity minutes the future looks good. Hopefully at some point the Coed can get back to the 2010s when Carroll, Fenwick, CJ, Alter all had Freshmen teams. For the most part the Rocket schedule is loaded with D1, D2 opponents and Badin ( who I guess is D2 now come to think of it)

Why can’t the other Coed school field a Freshmen team? I don’t believe McNick is that much larger than the other league teams. Just curious. McNick had 40+ on the team last year and a little over 30 this season. Heck if they didn’t have a Frosh team they’d be dressing over 90 kids on Fridays. There aren’t 25 boys that what to play football?

McNicks freshmen are better than I expected and have some pieces that will be damn good varsity players one day. I know it was St. X B's, but viewed McNick as the underdog and it wasn't close.

I counted 23 Freshmen on Alters roster. Why isn’t that enough for a Freshmen team? That’s a solid number and all 23 probably get some significant playing time.

They should have a frosh team, but that would required actual coaching and work. Alter continues to disappoint with an underperforming team and outside of 2-3 coaches, that staff is very mediocre. I respect everything Domsitz has done for my kids when they played there, but the last 5-6 years has been a struggle to watch.

McNicholas and Badin have better facilities, promote their programs better which attracts more kids, have harder working coaches, and are up to speed with how the game changes. I hear too many stories about this staff and program that just causes me to shake my head.

They made the state championship game last year.

If they had a freshman team, they wouldn't have a JV team. You are way off base about the coaching staff.

Time for Eddie D to turn the keys over to Tom Alig.

What were McNick's Freshman numbers last year? Wasn't it a very large group of kids playing?
They had nearly 50. A few of them played last night. I said there were 30+ Sophs on the roster this season, just checked , I counted 33. 31 on the current Freshman team.

Alter has started freshmen for the past 4 years. Their lack of depth is really showing its ugly head this year. Just a few injuries have completely derailed this team.

I still think Alter can make some noise depending on what draw they get. If they can avoid Massie, I could see them winning a couple playoff games.

Prior to that, and I could be wrong, the last Freshman to start/play at Alter was Jeff Graham.

Sad state of affairs with Alter football these days.
