Filling in the Blanks - Names requests from the Past

Is it true Rick Merk and Tom Thompson never won an individual GCL Title in the mile or 2 mile? Seems a bit hard to believe.
It's not true. Rick Merk of Elder won the GCL in 4:33.0 in 1983 when Tom Thompson of Elder & Shane Meredith of St. X both were dq'ed for beating the crap out of each other the entire race. Also, Merk tied his teammate Doug Quatman to be the co-champion of the 3200m run in 9:58.6. Thompson never won a GCL title (unless he was on the 3200m relay in 1983...).

Thanks for the info, again. The Cincinnati AAA (D1) meet list deficit list is getting whittle down!

Additional requests for information:

Girls' Cincinnati AAA (D1)

Additionally, the winning times for both Boys and Girls 4x440yd at the 1979 AA Sectional at Reading. Neither the Enquirer or the Post have those times.

Thanks to all who respond!

Thanks! Super, now I have every D1 mark for that boys meet save for the Mile Relay time in 1971 and the 1977 field events...which I'll get this weekend.

Don't know if this is the right meet or not from 1971, but the mile relay winner was Woodward 3:29.4 followed by Purcell, Hughes, and Bacon.

I have 1977 Sectional field events from the Sectional won by Withrow with 80 points. Is that the one you're looking for?

Thanks, I believe those are the ones I need, yes.

Thanks. I'd imagine that Hassel was Larry Hassel. Was he an older brother of Tom ('80) & Jim Hassel ('83), even though they went to Purcell? Also, was that held at Forest Park?

Yes, it was run at Forest Park. The other sectional at Princeton was called Oxford sectional.

Thanks.

Part of the effort to document all the district winners has been identifying the change of locations of the two different AAA (D1) districts. They've over-lapped a few times in the past, as I know you already knew, but some here haven't. What hasn't helped any was the mis-identification of a couple of those meets in either the Enquirer or Post in a few instances. I'm putting together supplemental material to be released with the district winners. Hope to have a 1st release around the Labor Day weekend.

Terry Adkins is correct for Norwood......he also ran the 110 High Hurdles a lot, quite a strange combination

In 1971, it was Tom Marquet in the pole vault for La Salle. I went to my La Salle bible of track and field to get it.

Marquet or Marquest?

BTW - That 1971 meet was the last district ever held at Trechter Stadium, evidently. Not sure if it was the last meet period at Trechter, but I do remember visiting the field in the mid-late '70s and it looked like a facility that hadn't been used in awhile.

Question - Was Trechter a 440yd facility? 6 lanes?

Of course Trechter was a 440 yard facility. Meters didn't start until 1980. The name is Marquet not Marquest. All of them pole vaulted for La Salle, maybe three borthers? I just checked my sectional results from 1971, never noticed they had him mispelled before. Thanks JAVMAN for finding that error.

You're welcome...that's why I asked the question. I see names butchered all the time, and I'm trying to weed those out.

I had Charlie Ruter butcher my last name...he missed a complete syllable in the middle of it...at the Ball State Relays one year.

I thought I'd definitely ask the question on the Trechter facility as I know that a few facilities around Cincinnati were less than 440yd. Summit had a 350yd track as I recall having coached there. I think the old Mariemont facility (not the one at the HS, but the old OLD one in the center of town) that used to host meets was around that size as well.

Updates made in men's list...lots of names pulled off list as information came to light over the weekend.

I do need help though in finishing out the Cincy AAA (D1) lists!

It almost wasn't worth my time posting, but, since I went through the effort...

Mike Ellison of Walnut Hills
Gary McNeal of Moeller
Keith Grace of Walnut Hills
Ken Kuethe of Moeller
Mike Davis of Walnut Hills

Also, I don't have 100% proof, but my bet is Tim Mallory of Woodward won the 180s in 1971.

Thank you. It wouldn't suprise me about Mallory in the '71 180's. I suspect that he may be the brother of current Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory?

Thanks. What's interesting is that the Moeller website lists a "V. Kuethe" as holding the freshmen HJ record, set in 1984. That would coincide with a Kuethe as a senior in 1987. However, was there a brother with the first initial "V" that was also jumping with Ken? Or is this simply a mistake on the Moeller website?
