Division IV Region 13

They're going to play 5 weeks in a row where their starters should be sitting by the end of the 3rd quarter if not earlier and the Manchester result last week was absolutely perplexing. I'm not saying they're on upset alert or anything like that but they are a team that it's been hard to get a read on from week to week
Do you think Northwest could give Canton South a game?

With one week remaining, it’s time to bring this to the top again. What are everyone’s thoughts about the region now?

in no order these are the teams that I think can win the region

Poland
Struthers
West branch
Streetsboro
Lake catholic.

Canton south is good on offense but to me they mirror Girard and have had a couple really close games with some teams that would get running clocked against the teams I mentioned. Just my opinion tho I wish all teams the best of luck and the teams playing the best to win

A lot can change and matchups will
Be key, but these are the projected matchups

I would say these teams have a chance to win the region:
Lake Catholic, Cardinal Mooney, Poland Seminary, Canton South, Struthers, West Branch
The dark horses are Niles McKinley, Streetsboro and Girard
No one else has a realistic chance

The fact that Jefferson won the region last year was a fluke and required a lot of good luck more than anything else, a lot of very unlikely things happened and the stars alligned allowing them to win the region. Jefferson had everything go their way. Quite a few other teams in the region were better than Jefferson last year, but many of them had injuries and were all banged up, meanwhile Jefferson was relatively healthy. Mind you even if West Branch had their QB at 100% an available to play defense, they still get slaughtered by Glenville just the same.
You don't win a region by luck bro kind of a stupid statement

Doing a scan of Drew Pasteur's F50 and a casual observer of this region. It looks like Lake Catholic is the favorite to win this region at 30%. One could throw a blanket over Struthers, Poland and West Branch to win. This region looks to be the most competitive of the other three of who wins.

Racking the regions of their predicted champs, as of today, and odds of them winning the state:

Perkins at 26% - R14
Glenville at 17% - R14 - I had to throw them in here, well, just because.
Steubenville at 16% - R15
Lake Catholic at 6.3% - R13
Clinton-Massie at 4.4% - R16

I would suspect the semis would be the same as last year. R15 vs R16 and R13 vs R14

One thing is for sure, there is a lot of good football left in this season. Good luck to everyone.

We have our region set...I'm a Lake Catholic follower, so I've seen them, Buchtel and Mooney in person. I've watched Poland, Struthers, Niles and Girard on streamed games. I have no clue about Canton South, West Branch or Streetsboro. The region champ will most likely be from the group of teams I mentioned, but I don't know if there is a clear favorite.

1. Canton South
2. Lake Catholic
3. Poland Seminary
4. West Branch
5. Streetsboro
6. Struthers
7. Niles
8. Cardinal Mooney
9. Buchtel
10. Edgewood
11. Girard
12. Beaver Local
13. Woodridge
14. East Liverpool
15. Field
16. Northwest

At first glance...

1. I think the rest of the teams in the region catch a break with Mooney and Buchtel matching up in the first round. This should be a great game and will eliminate a top challenger in the region. I think Mooney looks slightly better going into this one and I think they win a close one.

2. The NE8 looked really competitive this year and it looks like there will be some rematches before a champ is crowned. Struthers and Girard will be the first. Struthers won the first meeting and they looked really good against Poland (I'm still surprised by the choices they made at the end of the game). Girard did not look good against Niles, so I'm taking Struthers to move on.

3. I'm picking the higher seeds in the rest of the games as well.

I would not be optimistic about that, Northwest is very one dimensional offensively and lacks the speed on defense to contain Poochie. The only question there is going into week 10 will South have a seed locked in and sit some guys to avoid injury
Sit healthy guys in a high school playoff game? Never heard that strategy before. It sure would be assuming a lot.

They played them week 10 in the regular season with the league title already locked up, the question was if they would rest some of their players for that game specifically. In week 11, the playoffs, where they play Northwest again, that isn't a question anymore

Per Drew...% to win the region
Lake Catholic 35%
Poland 15%
West Branch 13%
Struthers 12%
Streetsboro 7.5%
Canton South 6.8%
Mooney 5%
Niles 2.4%
Buchtel 1.6%

It is. And while I do think LC is playing better than Mooney at this point, I would only favor LC by one score if they were to play again.
Just something that I pointed out, but with 9 other games of data rolled in, there are a bunch of other things that can offset that 1 game. So I do get it

Lake Catholic has turned it around big time after missing the playoffs last year. I would agree when I say that they have a chance to win the region. West Branch brought back a lot of receivers from last year's regional final run, and have a great QB in Beau Alazaus. Could they make another deep playoff run? Streetsboro is a solid team, and Preston Hopperton is the X Factor who made that Rocket offense soar throughout the season. It's up to the rest of the team to follow suit as well.

I like the Cardinal Mooney/Buchtel winner to knock off top seeded Canton South. The Griffs have been a turnover forcing machine throughout the season, and Mooney has made some huge strides forward.

Mooney has not lost a first round playoff game since 2003 but if they continue to give up huge plays like they have most of the year I can see them sitting at home in week 12. Buchtel is certainly a tough draw for them. Good luck to both teams.

GO CARDS!

I think Lake Catholic got the best draw in the region. They won't have to play Mooney or Buchtel again until the final...if any of them make it. The other high-powered offensive teams (West Branch and Canton South) are also on the opposite side of LC. I really think Canton South will have trouble with either Buchtel or Mooney.

On LC's side of the bracket, the two best NE8 teams in the region, Poland and Struthers will match up (most likely) before LC has to play them in the semifinal.

Not to get too far ahead, but I’d take Struthers in that second round game against Poland. Hopefully that matchup happens again.
