The biggest thing I've seen since roughly 2000 is that our society as a whole has reverted toward mediocrity. There is no longer as much emphasis placed on being the best in virtually everything. While the top of the pyramid, particularly in the college sports (Alabama football, Duke BB, New England Pro FB) has held steady...the middle of the pack teams never seem to cross the elite threshold, or be able to maintain that excellence.
In HS, look at Moeller, St. Iggy, St. X., Wayne, Centerville, Princeton, etc.
Even so, I, for one, will never accept a mediocre 7-3 C'ville football team. The goal should be 10-0, or bust. That's just me...
