I believe the goal is to have the Start-Whitmer game as the first Thursday game every year moving forward. Good move for Whitmer as it gives them a D1 opponent who is likely to have 5 wins or more every year on their schedule, and for Start it gives them $25,000-$30,000 from tickets and concessions, something that doesn't happen a ton in the City League anymore.
One thing of note from watching the game last night; Whitmer didn't have a negative yardage play until 4:48 left in the 3rd quarter with their 3rd stringers in. I don't know that this is a serious barometer of Whitmer's potential for the season, but they sure handled Start easily. Banks, the Monroe transfer, is the real deal though...13/173/3 TDs in the first half.
Excited to catch the SJJ-BG game...really think their offense has potential to be something very special this year.
