Excess Deaths

No one rational is asking for anyone to panic-- on the contrary, the rational, informed observers are simply asking for the general populace to take simple, easy, cheap methods to keep this virus from NEEDLESSLY causing an excess death total that is 6-7X higher than that caused by the seasonal flu— this virus’s death toll is/was eminently preventable— as has been demonstrated in countries with effective countermeasures (like Viet Nam, Taiwan, New Zealand)— so your argument that it is NOT preventable is just ignorant and silly.

A paper or cloth mask does not prevent a single death. There are serious questions whether Vietnam Taiwan or New Zealand are measuring deaths the same way we are. In fact, New Zealand has had problems of late. No epidemiologist would tell you that a paper or cloth mask is preventing transmissions, if that is your thinking, paper and cloth masks are the TSA of preventable measures. It reduces the chance, it prevents nothing. To prevent it, you would need a much more active filtration and containment system and even then it's not foolproof.

A paper/cloth mask reduces airflow, that is it. The Covid virus is smaller than the porous surfaces of paper/cloth masks., which means the virus itself passes through the material like it was not there. What the mask does is reduce the speed of the particles leaving a body so that they don't spread as far. That's it. Someone walking behind an infected person is walking through their exhalations like someone walking through the fog.

When did flu deaths ”vary by 100% over the span of 2 years”? Name the years, and cite your data source.

You want Table 1. Take a look at 2010/2011, 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 then 2014/2015 and 2015/2016.

Quit being a baby. We have plenty of scientific facts to prove that masks do work.

The original CDC guidance partly was based on what was thought to be low disease prevalence earlier in the pandemic. The legitimate concern that the limited supply of surgical masks and N95 respirators should be saved for health care workers should not have prevented more nuanced messaging about the benefits of masking.
What may have finally convinced the CDC to change its guidance in favor of masks were rising disease prevalence and a clearer understanding that both pre-symptomatic and asymptomatic transmission are possible – even common.

The declining case counts in ohio since the mask mandate went into effect is the perfect example of how effective mask wearing is.

Wait.....

I didn‘t lie about anything– you lied about that study’s data and conclusions— because you ARE BIASED. You’ve shown NO ability or willingness to change your mind, if the face of data and results that contradict your (false) entrenched positions.
Sometimes irony can be ironic.

No climate scientist thinks that it is 1% man-made causes— they think It is much higher than that. The climate change that you describe happened over periods thousands (even hundreds of thousands) of times longer than what is happening now— that is precisely WHY it is so worrisome to the climate scientists and geologists— because it is happening SO FAST. 175 years (basically the Industrial Era) is an instant in geologic terms— this change is comparable to changes that took tens of thousands of years to occur, in the earth’s past.

As for your questions about Texas, Arizona and New Mexico— you do understand that those states are NOT forested like the parts of CA, OR, and WA that are burning? You do understand that you need a forest to have a FOREST FIRE? The southeastern part of CA is NOT burning— because it is desert— like Arizona, Nevada, and quite a bit of New Mexico... and the part of Texas that is NOT desert (in the eastern part of the state) gets CONSIDERABLY more rain than the parts of CA, OR, and WA (and yes, parts of ID—in the southwest part of the state adjacent to OR and WA, ID Is ALSO under threat from forest fires)... your geography ignorance is showing.

California HAS HAD issues with raging wildfires in the SE part of the state (https://www.newsweek.com/san-diego-wildfire-map-where-are-fires-742748) and even now Valley Fire. Those other places may be "under threat" but they aren't burning out of control. That's the point, fires do indeed break out in other areas, but they don't get so out of control that they can't be contained within days. It's a problem of not removing the sources of the fires, not having firebreaks, not managing the areas, and that's a problem with the state and local governments.

As for the other, I never said it's 1%, but what is the number? Is it 5% or 25% is it 50%? Scientists can't tell us that. We know we are affecting the climate, but no one is even determining how much. Are we ushering in a change that would normally take 400-500 years? Is it worth killing 1-2B people (through disease, lowered food production, etc.) or millions or billions of jobs or trillions of dollars to simply delay the inevitable change? A single mega-volcano or asteroid/comet strike could achieve the same results in months, they've happened in the past and could happen in the future. You are right, some changes do happen over geologic time, others happen in a literal wink of an eye.

Should be an interesting response......

More Science You’re Not Allowed to See

Yea, ok. What Q blog did you read this nonsense?

Obviously not yours, either.

Levels before mask mandate = less testing and earlier in the spread.
Trump = less tests, less positive results.
Mask mandate was in July. Almost August.
You stated plenty of "scientific evidence" that masks work....I pointed out the single most important piece of scientific evidence - actual case counts - say otherwise. That's kind of where the rubber meets the road.

You believe masks don't work, because a large portion of Ohioans refuse to wear them.
Not able to put your responses together in a single post? There is an edit feature. I think yappi has a remedial course for users like you.

More people are wearing masks since the mandate went into effect.

Without more people wearing masks and following social distancing, our case counts would be significantly higher.
