Zach Slates fired as Perry begins search for new head coach

Slates the replacement for Keith Wakefield has been relived of his duties as Perry’s head football coach. Where does Perry go from here?

Wakefield still have the itch? Perry should hire someone who runs a real offense, not some, (in today's world) gimmick offense. Get behind by a couple of scores and it's over. Plus, if you're a pretty good athlete and a QB, are you excited about handing the ball off 50 times a game?

Agreed. Wakefield was a great coach who won a ton of games. Not gonna find another Wakefield. Time to move onto a whole new culture

well, changing the culture is not always good. The wing -T got Perry to numerous Fed titles, playoff wins and two state finals so that says something. We could run an offence that most schools run and it comes down to talent. Well, talent usually wins but there is more to it than that. Example running the same offense as Jackson. Jackson has a huge team. Perry does not and never has a large team. Since they fired Zach they had better find somebody good.

It’s feasible to run the wing-t as a base and throw the ball more. I’m a Perry alum living on the other end of the state now, and the school here runs a wing-t but throws the ball still probably more times in a game than Perry does all season.

What’s the talent pool in the district look like? Does the talent dictate its time for a switch in philosophy? And yes, in todays game it would be hard to be a talented WR and focus on just blocking for 40 snaps a game, so there’s probably something to be said to look at a philosophy change. Who knows?

When there has been a good o line with talent running backs under Wakefield they had great years. Smaller OL and little running back talent has been bad because they refuse to accept who they are and change year to year with what they have

Perry doesn’t have to completely go away from what’s made them successful. However the past couple years have been teams with taller faster receivers and a good qb and they still ran the ball 40 times a game. Need a coach that will change year to year with what talent he has to work with.

Perry Has always been Ran the Wing T. Something that’s great if u have the players to run it. There has been years where they had the athleticism to open it up and not the size to run the wing t..

Can’t live and Die by what you run. Have to be able to change things up. Perry always seemed 1 dimensional to me. That’s not always good when ur playing D1 teams and have small O line average RBs.

Great school and program. I’m sure they will find a great coach. Should be someone outside the program with fresh ideas. Good luck on the next chapter and taking the program to the next level

I don't think you're gonna run the wing t for 4 or 5 years then go 5 wide because your receivers are tall and you got a kid who can sling it. And if you're going to continue to pound it you may as well stay in the wing t and run some misdirection .

Whoever gets the job will have a decent amount of returning talent to work with in what should be a down year for the Federal League. Good opportunity to compete right away without any "rebuild".

Navy evolved their offense into the “Sling-T” this year. If you’re keeping the Wing-T as the offense I would recommend studying Navy.

Errybody think I’m crazy, but I love me some Scott Daugherty. Don’t look for the resume, look for the guy that bleeds black and white.
