Zach Slates fired as Perry begins search for new head coach

Source I’ve heard from is administration is in talks with a Massillon assistant. They are keeping things tight lipped right now with the fresh firing. I was not given a name. I know they want to go young.

I’d take an assistant from Massillon over a lot of head coaches. Coaching for the best in the country means something. Can’t just be any old assistant at Massillon

A rumor existed that Perry consulted WHBC host Joe Palmisano on the hire after Round 1 of Wakefield. I know many of those folks are gone, but if that is what happened and that kind of mentality is present in this next search committee Perry is in big trouble.

It is more than a rumor. In fact, they kind of let him run the show. And what you get out that is Boedicker. Identify a friend of the current administration that is a coach and you’ll have the guy they will hire. Where is the AD from? I’d start there.

all I can say is we had 2 failed coaches after Wake left the 1st time. One almost made the playoffs with one of the highest amount of seniors ever. The other made the playoffs 1x and got blown out in the 1st round. Things were looking better after the injured players returned on defense this year and at least we got a playoff win. IDK

Unreal.

I don’t think anyone is with me on the Doc train and as I said earlier, I don’t even think Doc is. But I kinda don’t care. Dude wins whatever the sport, whatever the talent. Player or Coach.

His run at QB they were like 19-2. In 92-93.

He has multiple ‘ships in the sport he currently coaches.

Doc if you read this… throw in! You know you can do this!!

This Job screams Tim Budd. I know he isn't coaching as of now but this is the perfect job for him to get back into.

Stark I notice you talk a lot about talent as the harbinger for whether or not a team does well. I think the success of a good coach is how competitive a program can be when they don't have talent. There's only one Perry guy who does that consistently and he doesn't coach football.

Who is that. ? Coach Wake did more with less and that is a fact ( I am sure you would agree. )

Wake did a ton with less. The two state title teams had two division 1 guys and they played OL. Most coaches in division 1-2 need loaded rosters to go on runs like that. At least 5 D1 guys

I do agree! I guess I recall a few times where you’d say something like “we just don’t have the kids” or “injuries.” The good coach steals a few games they shouldn’t win when they don’t have the kids or when they have a ton of injuries. That was KW and that is rare. Soup is doing it at ISU, and Doc is doing it behind Pfeiffer.

Interesting, however it's going to come down to the interview committee they put together.

Do they go with a young coach or someone older with experience... What jobs do they have opening to bring someone in?

I would have to think Gamble or Dial would be the front runners for this. Former Jackson coach Budd or Sarbaugh from Fairless I could also see as a real possibility. I don't think they would want another coach with no head coaching experience but possibly Beau Lindesmith, he has been a long time assistant at Fairless and CCHS?? It will be interesting to see the selection.

getting another newbie head coach could set the program back for a few years . You can look to a small school but if they have more players than a typical Perry roster that would be a red flag. In Wakes return (the 2nd year ) he took Perry to the D1 playoffs with ~ 40 players total. With slates at least we had a playoff win and beat McKinley 1x . Budd ( former jackson HC I believe) did just ok with a lot of players from what I remember . The head of CCC would probably be good if he would take it.

As I mentioned earlier, it’s gotta be Gamble.

Beau is the heir apparent at CCC when his dad goes. He’s not going anywhere.

Not sold on Sarbaugh to be honest. Dial seems like a likely finalist. I don't see Lindesmith leaving CCC or his son applying

If these are your top choices, I'd Budd and Dial are your best bets.

The softballs coach and middle school football coach will not become the head football coach.
I understand but if he has a shred of interest I’d like for the administration to take it seriously. If you have eyes to see, you’re talking about a coach who consistently produces successful teams at a state championship level whether the cupboard is bare or not, regardless of the sport, age, gender.

He’s a good coach and I’m convinced that his ability to coach at a high level in another sport transfers. It’s wildly unpopular and I don’t give a Rip… or a Liz!!

So you want an experimental coach. I think Perry deserves a proven coach who knows how to run a program. Dan Iftt comes to mind or even Mr. Hall from canton. I understand what your saying tho, id bet on the ex Dover coach. He's qualified and friends with Keith.

Do any of the Perry fans know why he did not apply in the past/or if he did why he wasn’t selected? He would be a great pick , but just curious.
