If you ask me (and I've given a lot of thought), below are the points I would recommend to the state and governor to help (and hope) ensure we have a season:
Again... Below is just my opinion. Have not heard anything regarding any winter sports.
1. Events contain no more than 4 schools in participation
2. All competitions are dual / tri / quad
3. No competition on consecutive days (exception to postseason)
4. At least 2 open days between competition days (if you wrestle Wednesday, can't again until Saturday).
5. Weigh-ins and skin performed in singlet and on the gym floor to avoid congregating in locker rooms
6. No more than 2 coaches are permitted to sit on the bench during competition
7. Masks worn by everyone with exception to the referee and 2 wrestlers on the mat (on deck = in mask)
8. No post-match handshake with opposing coaches
9. No post-dual handshake with opposing team
10. Temperature check prior to traveling on bus / van
11. A second temperature check upon arrival and before accessing gymnasium
12. Spectators must wear masks and socially distance (every other row in bleachers; 6 feet apart if in the same row).
13. No conference tournament if the conference contains more teams than the maximum allowable per competition.
May even go as far as to say just 2 teams per competition thus creating an all-dual regular season. This coupled with a mandatory 2 day break before competing again allows for a 72 hour break which seems to be an important piece of information per the Governor's office.
The other step (some may say drastic) you could take is to have 2 host sites per sectional to ensure only half of the weight classes (and individuals) are attending at a time... OR... raise match maximum per day to 6 and operate all sectionals as 1-day events with Saturday being lower weights and Sunday with upper weights. Do the same for Districts.
State tournament operates with 3 host sites (1 per division) and is a 2-day event for each group of weight classes. Thursday & Friday for the lower weights and with upper weight competing on Saturday & Sunday.
I'm not saying this would all happen, I'm not saying this would be full-proof, and I'm certainly not saying it's the best options to implement. But I'll go on a limb to say that those who really want wrestling to happen won't hesitate to accept these terms if it meant getting the kids on the mat this winter.
Hope for the best.
