I would hope no coaching decisions would be made on the basis of "looking right"!
I would hope so too but I seem to remember a very vocal group that insisted on a person of color when Reardon left…..what were they called? the barbershop gang? Do you think it had something to do with how you got Wattley?
And besides, Powers is a good coach with city kids no?

Don’t try to take us back to days gone by. We are moving forward. You can stab back there if you want.

I hope the clean house with the coaching Staff we just need a new voice at Canton McKinley
A new voice is sometimes needed no doubt but dont expect that new voice to be some "one of the best coaches in the state " type . Bunch of people want a change but the change they are asking for may not come with a major upgrade at HC .

Let us worry about that. I swear, I think you are more concerned about Mckinley than we are. Gee whiz!!!!

Whats that supposed to infer? My investment in Mck athletics goes well beyond yours and probably 99% of the people in here . Some of you just dont want to accept that the modern day Mck is a completely different entity than was the " where champions are made and success is a tradtion" era.... just like democrats who think we are still living in the JFK era today....JFK would be a republican today .

You're basically correct as to the atmosphere which surrounded the program after Reardon left for Youngstown. Actually, it was somewhat similar after Ron Johnson was fired. Many who have any history with Canton McKinley would hope that more practical and unbiased thinking would prevail, should Hall be dismissed. Regarding Ricky Powers, there has been mixed reviews on his coaching abilities. Don't believe that Powers bring the overall experience to oversee a football program which must begin developing a disciplined, fundamentally sound and winning culture at the 7th and 8th grade level in Canton. The Akron City School system is a genuine train wreck. Just my perspective, though you and others may disagree, which is fine. Peace.

Yes. didnt he win or at least get to a state championship coaching Akron Buchtel
Not sure of his exact record but he had some VERY impressive teams at Buchtel. Last I heard he was at Brush but don't know how its gone there.

He did have a few good teams/years, but that was quite a while ago. Powers is no longer that "up & comer" head coach that he was back in the 1990s. Nothing personally against the man, whatsoever. I just don't believe he would be the right hire at this point in time at McKinley.

It’s Greek to me

Hello Hilltop24, I appreciate your posts! Please excuse my lack of internal knowledge in reference to your statement about Hall and his assistants being fired today/tonight. Is this alleged action being driven by the BOE or the Superintendent?

Sam--appreciate those posts and understand your points but again ,the facilities ,the schools storied past etc..does not outweigh the stress and headaches one has to deal with today in 2024 at Mck . They could have had Tim Tyrell a few yrs back before they hired AH but they went a different direction . Only someone like him that they could convince with prob more $$$$ than they would want to pay would possibly work. But will the superinendant and board approve that ? I doubt it .Bottom line is coaches today dont really care about the storied tradition or playing in an empty TB Stadium anymore .

Sir, Thanks for sharing your viewpoint. Although we disagree, it is good that we can do so in a respectful manner. To be honest, I do not know what the right answer is. You very well may be correct.

I live in Cleveland, and get my news from the local paper, Canton family members, fellow fans at Fawcett, etc. I can say that the school administration and our civic leaders are very proud of what they have done with the stadium, practice facilities, HOF Village, new businesses, etc. One must admit that an attractive location has been built up near 17th street NW - McKinley is NOT your typical "inner-city" school. IMO, although a new coach may not come to Canton BECAUSE of the new attractions, neither will they repulse anyone.

Over the near future, we will learn if these amenities can attract coaching talent. For now, I believe that it can not hurt. Good luck to you, and all of us, sam

Well. Get the applicants ready. Hall is gone.

So we’re here. It’s time to find a good replacement. Obviously the hope would be Tyrell but if not a thorough search will be needed.
