• Happy Independence Day!!!

Who would be joining the Suburban League America division

No one. Most likely scenario: Aurora and Highland link up with the existing SL-National to make one ten-team league. Barberton goes independent. Revere and Copley make a deal to join the Metro and have that split into a big/small setup.
Makes the most sense to me too. Is that being discussed or just speculation?

Pretty much. I'm hearing Barberton is already scheduling weeks 4-10 starting in 2026

Tough to be in a league w/ 5 teams
Try 3 teams! What's left of the Portage Trail after Rootstown departs. It won't be a league, and guess Mogadore should go independent route....which basically they have already done this year.

Barberton is D2 like most other schools here. Why would they leave? Plus they match most all other sports with these schools.
Barberton would stand no chance athletically in the National. They would have a couple sports where they would be competitive, but overall, the Magics would finish in the bottom half of the league in most sports.

Yes, but at least Barberton would be in a league instead of independent. All teams/enrollment changes.

Just sad what has happened to Mogadore. Any chance with joining the Chagrin Valley Conference with Crestwood and Rootstown?

If Barberton chooses to take on Wadsworth, Hudson, etc in all sports every year, they will be where they were 15 years ago. Little success, little participation, little enthusiasm. Independent is better for Barberton than the national.

Makes sense

There is no chance of Copley and Revere being added to the Metro

I'm hearing that Mogadore applied to the CVC.

Despite being a geographic outlier, Rootstown was an easy choice to replace Cardinal in the Valley Division.

Here's the issue: The CVC has 4 6-team divisions for football. The math and scheduling become super wonky if they would add only 1 more school and have a single 7-team divsion. If the league can add 2 teams, then 1 8-team division is doable, and even 2 7-team divisions make scheduling doable via crossover games. Mogadore's best hope for the CVC would be if either another team would exit, or if someone else could enter alongside them. The easiest way would be if Richmond Heights could get its football program back on solid ground and rejoin as a 7th team in the Metro Division, and then Mogadore could be the 7th team in the Valley Division.

Again thought Rootstown and Mogadore were in agreement they were a package deal no matter the league. Again schools get away from Mogadore football, which is down, to play Kirtland or New MiddletownSpringfield? Head scratcher for sure

Copley and Revere would be right with Kent Roosevelt in terms of enrollment at the top of the Metro (MAC), and are probably better all-sports schools than Kent, hence the lack of interest from the MAC member schools.

In terms of Rootstown going to the CVC, they would rather have weeks 6-10 solidified in football, and don't care if they get blown out by Kirtland in one game ... compared to whatever the scheduling situation is in the PTC. Same with a school like Garrettsville Garfield that goes to the MVAC. Weeks 1-3 are rather easy to fill for most schools, weeks 4 and 5 are harder but not hard, it's 6-10 where the problems come in.

So the latest rumor is that the Suburban remains a two division league with Kenston and Mayfield joining and entering the small school division and Medina entering and joining the large school division. As a result, the big school division becomes: Medina, Solon, Stow, Highland, Hudson, Nordonia and Wadsworth. Small school becomes: Mayfield, Kenston, Aurora, Twinsburg, Barberton, Copley, Revere and Brecksville.

I am surprised it is not Nordonia moving to the small school instead of Brecksville. Brecksville is a lot more competitive in all sports than Nordonia.

That gigantic geographic hole in the middle of this league creates alot of long trips.

Alot of travel for Barberton to stay in a league:

Barberton to Kenston - 48 minutes (47 miles)
Barberton to Aurora - 46 minutes (37 miles)
Barberton to Mayfield - 45 minutes (45 miles)
Barberton to Twinsburg - 40 minutes (32 miles)
Barberton to Brecksville - 30 minutes (27 miles)
Barberton to Revere - 22 minutes (17 miles)
Barberton to Copley - 14 minutes (7 miles)

Not only that, but Nordonia is the smallest (lowest enrollment) of the bunch.
