Who will be Ohio’s Mr. Football

1. Bo Jackson, VASJ
2. Matt Ponataski, Moeller
3. Keller Moten, Walsh Jesuit

Nobody else should be considered, including St. Clair. He looks nothing like a future Ohio State staring QB this year.

As a side note, I'm pretty sure Kinsey rushed for over 100 yds in all 3 playoff games last year as a sophomore
He did, Max Preps has him at 192, 143, and 211 in the playoffs last year (at 15 years old, lol)! The 211 was against Big Red, he had 3 TDs that game and ran like a man that was possessed against a very good BR team that knew the ball was going to him and stacked the box because the passing game was non existent.

Jackson played 3 games; doubtful he's a finalist.

*Competition in those 3 games: W/L 3-18.

It is unfortunate that he has been out, hopefully he will be back soon because he is fun to watch. I do agree with you though, even if he is back this week he has missed a third of the regular season and that makes it really tough to compete with these other guys when they are only factoring in 10 games.

I'm not sure what his status for the game or the extent of his injury is, but I'm wondering if a guy named "BO JACKSON" with a full ride to Ohio State might decide that the money he'll make in the next few years is more important than finishing the season after suffering a leg injury that forced him to leave two games early and sidelined him for 3 weeks.

I don't disagree with these, but I don't like having a player included that has been out with injury for the last 3 games, and may be more. I know VASJ has political influence and Bo is an absolute phenomenal player, but I can't give Mr Football to a kid that only plays in 6-7 games against okay competition.

I like Nolan Good from Avon, but as shown last season Avon has such a team around him that they barely missed a beat when he was down with injury.

I also agree with others that this should be a senior award, So the 2026 kids should have their shot next year.

My choices are currently:
1. Keller Moten - Walsh Jesuit
2. Jake Uhlenhake - Bishop Watterson
3. DC Ferrell - Ytown Ursuline

HM:
Matt Ponataski - Moeller
Nathan Bernard - Ashland
Grady Kinsey - Indian Valley
Nolan Good - Avon

Great choices, I watched Moten last week against Hoban and was really impressed.

I don't know that I agree it should be a senior award, football is too volatile to hold class year against a kid. Injuries, sickness, etc, happen and I think their body of work should matter much more than if they are in 11th or 12th grade.

Interesting choice on Jake Uhlenhake from Watty. Incredible 2023 season receiving and one of the most athletic kids around (love watchg him last 3 years() but has had injuries this year and has maybe 12 catches in 2024? He dominated Chardon's team though a few weeks ago (is that where you are from?). As a Waterson homer, if I were to pick our Mr. Football from this team it would be either Drew Bellisari (QB) or Zack Weber (RB/LB) or Michael Boyle (DT) but they spread the ball around so much its hard to compete on state level with stats.

I have no real say in this topic because I am very limited in who I watch on Friday's & Saturday's, but if you took Moten off the Walsh team they have no shot of beating Ursuline or Hoban this season.

He's that important to what they do on offense. They have a lot of talent, but he has put that team on his back and carried them to wins.

And that, in my opinion, is exactly what Mr. Football does. It should be a kid that is taking his team to heights they would not reach without him. A true difference maker that you can’t help but notice on the field. Everyone in the stands should be impressed with a Mr. Football candidate and know that if he weren’t in the game it would be completely different. “Next man up” won’t fill his shoes.

Yep - I saw the Chardon game and knew him from last season. My bad on not checking his overall work before including him. I do like their QB. Is his dad the same one that played at OSU?

I'll also agree to an extent on being a junior or a senior. But I prefer a senior, especially if they had a successful junior season. There are plenty of juniors that don't have as good of a senior season. I know the Walsh QB was All State last season as well, but has put the team on his back this year.

Moten is a stud

Someone that might end up on the list that no has mentioned or is talking about is QB Ja'Niaus Hall from Lima Senior. Through 7 games he has 3,179 yds and 39 TD. Going into week 7 he was supposedly leading the nation in passing yards at 469 per game. He "only" threw for 365 and 3 TD in week 7 which brought his per game average down to 454.

Lima Senior is D2 and 7-0. Granted, they haven't played the toughest schedule, that's still pretty impressive. On pace for 4,500 yds and 55 TD's during the regular season.

Only a Junior.

If a player racks up 3000 yards, 100 tackles, and 30+ touchdowns in a season, he deserves to be considered regardless of grade level.
Yeah I don't agree with the senior award BS. Too many injuries in football, or in sports in general.

LeBron James won 3 Mr Basketball awards. It would have been absolutely ridiculous for someone to have won it even his sophomore year. With a state title lol.

Man that’s unfortunate, hopefully it is just out of an abundance of caution and not a serious injury he has to overcome.

He is the #1 overall recruit in the class of 2025 and that was a new jump a couple months ago. Is he not having a good season? Guessing his ranking will tank when they update if he’s having a bad season.

Stats don’t mean anything to me against inferior competition. How do you think this kid would play if he were to face a defense like Hoban, Eds or Moeller?

That’s something I think is overlooked too many times. I’m not saying he’s a bad player or isn’t deserving of mention, but I can’t give props to a kid that throws for 500 yards against the little sisters of the poor. It just makes me think less of his coach for keeping him in the blowout too long.

I’d like to add Casey Myser from Highland, but in good conscience I know his schedule between weeks 2-9 is absolutely atrocious. He will stack meaningless stats. I do, however, think he would be good against good competition too. Just not enough to be Mr Football.

Still throwing the ball pretty well this season, but he looks heavier and slower and isn’t running the ball or making plays on the run to the same extent that he did in prior years. Much closer to someone like Drew Allar instead of CJ Stroud (the kind of prospect you would expect of the #1 QB), and Allar isn’t good enough to start for Ohio State (even if he is pretty solid).

So the extent of injury was serious enough where doctors advised he wouldn’t be cleared to play football again until 2 months later, but the fortunate news for him was there being no ligament damage to require surgery, but I’m sure it was mentioned that another blow to the knee like he had against Kenston, surgery would be an option.

So, I guess you don't think Curtis Enis (Mississinawa Valley) or Bobby Hoying (St. Henry) should have won the award either.

His rating won't tank. He performed to well at the camps and his stats will be fine this season. Still a 5 star QB.
