Little early .... so what.....

Three Days of the Condor (1975) ... 6.5/8

Watched this one this morning and I really liked Robert Redford in this. I just love the films set in the 70's especially when they were made in the 70's. Was there a sequel to this?

The Wild Robot (2024)

A robot stranded in the wilderness becomes tasked with raising a baby goose. Obvious parenting allegory. Lots of people are going to love this, but it wasn't as strong as I thought it would be. The heartfelt moments are there, but not enough comedy to balance it. An unnecessary third act villain is really shoe-horned in.

5.4/8

WIki says the writer had follow on books. IMDB says there was a tv series "Condor" with favorable reviews. I don't see any other shows with same title as his books.

Not a sequel, but Captain America: Winter Soldier also heavily used Three Days of the Condor as inspiration.

It's still September

The Secret of NIMH (1982) ... 5.5/8

Started of October with this one. No, it is not horror but this is a pretty dark and sometimes disturbing movie that has just a "G" rating. I last saw this when I was a kid and for some reason I remember the plow ripping through the bodies of the animals trying to escape yet this movie does not have that in it. Did I just experience that phenomenon when you remember something that may have been true at the time but not now????

Anyhow, the rest of the movies I watch this month will be horror and will be a mix of new watches and re-watches.......

Happy Horrors!

80s! Let's scare the crap out of kids! I saw this in school when I was like eight or nine because we read the book. Lots of imagery has stuck with me since then. I think this is the same people who made Land Before Time, All Dogs Go to Heaven, etc. They seemed really motivated to push the limit on what kids can handle beyond what Disney was willing to do.

The Tank (2023)

Horror: A surprise inheritance finds a young couple at a remote cottage on the Oregon coast. Overwhelmed by the discovery the couple question why this was secretive and not being used. Well, that will be answered following a discovery of something in the underground water tank..... This is a creature feature film and I will give them cred for doing this old school and not using CGI. This one was alright despite some strange decisions made by characters and the problem I had with the cars..... 4.5/8

Insidious (2010)

Horror: Time to rewatch the Insidious films. It had been awhile though I remember most of what happens. The first hour of this one is excellent. The set up, the atmosphere, the scares in the distance..... To me, a dark hallway with atmosphere is more scarier than stuff popping out of nowhere for no reason. When Dalton's brother tells his mother that Dalton scares him when he walks around at night.... that was just creepy to me and effective. I like the subtle..... The last 40 minutes is still really good but I was disappointed with the "Further". I cannot Astral Project though I have had out of body experiences when meditating when I was much younger. I do have a friend that not only could but could control it and he told me something scared him so badly when he went way out that he will not do it again. Dalton stated in his drawings that he could fly and that is why he wore a cape most of the time. So why did Dalton not fly when we saw him in the Further? Anyhow, I enjoyed this one much more the 2nd time around. It still made me feel uneasy at times..... First hour.... 7.0/8, the last 40 minutes.... 5.0/8 ..... 6.0/8

Lavender (2016)

Horror: Jane likes to take photographs of abandoned farmhouses but one draws her to it. There is much more going on here and this one plays more like a drama. ... 4.0/8

Bestie (2023)

Horror: A grieving bullied high school girl befriends a girl on a horror drag site. This isn't going to go well.... 4.0/8

Friday the 13th (1980) 5/8 The start of the franchise. Not a bad movie, but I try to keep in perspective it was made almost 45 years ago. The get bloodier as they go along. I'm going to watch the first 8 I bought in a box set.

I was excited to see the new Joker movie, but I am very hesitant now after reading some other opinions of it. Have any of you seen it or heard anything positive?

Haunting of the Queen Mary (2023)

Horror: Two stories here that run concurrent. One being set in the present and the other back in the 1900's where a series of bloody murders take place on the ship. This one gets gory but it runs too long with over a 2 hour run time. ... 4.5/8

Same. Reviews are bad, but I really liked the first one. I was hoping one of our resident reviewers would show it some love lol.

It is very, very bad. And not even in an its-so-bad-its-entertaining kind of way. The plot is terrible and moved at a snails pace. The musical numbers are pointless. And the ending is atrocious

Wait until it's in digital (which will be in a few weeks) or on Max by the end of the year

That's almost the exact synopsis I read yesterday, thanks for the heads up.

OT but I had no idea 28 Years Later is officially being made. I loved the first two movies, especially the 2nd one. That’s the most accurate zombie type movie that i really believe could shut down society

I saw Joker 2 tonight. Not as bad as I had heard but agree that it would be better for people that want to see it to wait until it comes to streaming.

If you saw the first one, you will be disappointed. It is nothing like the first movie and doesn't even compare.

If you have not seen the first movie, you might like this as a stand alone with only a limited idea of what to expect. The musical scenes for the most part don't make much sense. It is like someone really wanted to make a musical and tried to fit it into any movie they were given the green light to make. There were a couple songs that worked but 80% of the music should be cut from the movie and the first person singing didn't add to the movie at all. The storyline was OK. It could have been alot tighter and stayed truer to the first movie.

The first movie is one of my favorite comic book movies. This one is nothing special at all.

I didn't have a problem with the ending but it is not a great ending either.

The best way to describe this movie is imagine Arthur Fleck sitting down trying to write the perfect joke and he comes up with something strange and not entertaining. That is what this movie felt like. The writers and director were trying to make something great and ended up with a dud.

Thanks for taking one for the team!

Haven’t seen it, but as I understand it the musical numbers were supposed to be delusions not really happening.

As with any musical, those numbers are supposed to exist to move the plot forward in some way. They don't in Joker 2. They're utterly pointless. Cool to look at and Gaga sounds great, but pointless nonetheless
