West Branch vs Salem. Who ya got?

With both teams already qualified for the Division IV playoffs, this matchup has little bearing on qualifying for the postseason tournament. However, these neighborhood rivals like nothing less than to come out on the short end of this yearly matchup. Both the Warriors and Quakers boast talented 20201 squads. So, I ask you..........who wins this annual showdown, by what score and why? Let's not have this turn into a thread of disparaging comments. I want to hear honest assessments/predictions.

Because it is a rival this won't be close. West Branch will take no mercy and hang 60+ on Salem. This won't bother me a bit as Johnson deserves everything he gets. Never seen anybody _itch and cry more than him.
This will be a great game, someone is salty

WB and Salem struggle defensively against athletic teams and QBs. Alliance and South exposed Salem's weakness on defense, as did Howland and South against WB. Unless either team shows up on defense, this will be a barn-burner. WB 51, SALEM 38.

The schedule here on Yappi has this game on Oct 23rd?? Sat ??

Is the gane Friday or Saturday ??

I heard they have added an extra digit to the scoreboard for this one. What is the over at the Youngstown area barber shops? 96?

For those asking, yes it is on SATURDAY. They’ve been playing it that way for 5 years or so. If I recall DJ Dota wanted to move it to set it apart some, Salem was agreeable, and it has stuck.

Obviously I want Salem to win by 100, I figure it’ll be WB by 10-14ish

Banking on a couple turnovers.
Salem had a nice squad, they sort of blew it against Alliance and just ran out of time against Carrollton, win 1 or both of those and this game would be epic. The alliance review has a good article about the top 10 games in the history of that rivalry, very interesting. A friend of mine in Minerva graduated from WB and played in those games and said that is a great rivalry and those games were always different. Good luck to both teams.

The artical starts with "It's one of the greatest football rivalries in Ohio High School sports".

10. 1964 - 12-0 Salem
9. 1966 - 12 - 0 WB
8. 1985 - 17-7 Salem
7. 2006 40-0 WB
6. 2015 - 21-14 salem
5. 1986 21-0 WB
4. 1998 21-19 Salem
3. 2003 19-13 WB in ovetime
2. 1973 7-6 WB
1. 1994 28-21 WB in overtime, WB went 14-0 and won state championship

I didn't know Jim Heacock, Tressel's D coordinator at OSU was from West Branch. I didn't realize Kirk Lowdermilk is a Salem graduate and I had know idea Rich Karlis was from Salem (my favorite kicker when Denver beat the Browns in the Drive!!!). I also didnt know that the 2 schools had to stop playing for a while due a big fight in 1986.

It was also interesting to learn that WB used Salem as their home field for several years.

Any ex-players have any good memories?

Yeah, before WB plowed their cornfields they had to play their home games in Salem.

Also, at some point they stopped playing the JV game because of bad blood spilling over from the varsity game the night before.

Rumor on street and i live between schools and have no dog in the fight. But apparently ron johnson has put bounty on wb qb. That is just shady but to be expected from him

Probably a terrible idea since his son is Salem’s quarterback.
It's also definitely not something any coach would do in today's game. Saying something like "we want to hit the quarterback" is not the same as the garbage Gregg Williams was pulling in New Orleans. Just people trying to add a little spice to the game tomorrow
