We needed expanded playoffs for Covid with cancellations. Reduce it now.

whats ridiculous about it? , and don't call me truly
Any player can get racked up at any point in any sport. Hell walking through the halls.
Should the “lesser teams” just forfiet the regular season games that are to hard for the poor little guys that can’t compete with the bigger teams? Child abuse? Get out of here.

This is absolutely the only reason for expansion. The goal of any organization is to perpetuate its existence. This is a no-brainer for the OHSAA. More games equals more money and they won't go back to 8 teams per region.

show us how much $ gate was generated by ANY matchup.

1: the any player can get racked up walking through the halls, or any other sport, false equivalency. No, a person playing full contact tackle football is infinitely more likely to get seriously injured than a person playing tennis. or bowling. or golf, or cross country etc.

your second sentence makes no sense whatsoever.

Good thing we let those boys play against the big bad top 8 seeds
That makes no sense. Try in English to express your views.

Data matters to those interested in seeing what works, what doesn't, what might have a source of improvement. I'll leave heads buries in sand to the likes of you and your ignorance is bliss buddies.

This let them all in approach is what is wrong with our current society. Too soft....there are winners and losers in football and society. If you want a week 11. try something crazy like earning enough wins so you can be in playoffs instead of just giving it too them for that wonderful 1-9 season. Football is supposed to teach real world lessons. Whether it hurts their feeling or not is a joke. I have been involved in many games and no one looks forward to a blowout. The losing teams embarrassed or worse...kids get hurt. The winning team is just trying to not get players hurt for next real game and pad stats. The fan hate them and don't show up unless relative playing. Make sure we give every player a trophy and a juice box for showing up to and fruit cup. You can be the juice box coach Dirt.
How are you still missing the point? The OHSAA is not letting teams in because it wants to avoid hurting the kids' feelings. It is allowing more teams in because there is a financial benefit to do so.

Weeks 1-10 used to be the first round of the playoffs. They’ve removed the carrot of making it, and replaced it with the stick of not making it.

46ish pretender teams that are gonna eat the curb in a week or two benefited from this this week but all 702 teams are hurt by this every other week they play. OHSAA took teams’ straightest measuring stick, the objectively most valuable stretch goal, not just against their competition but against themselves historically and turned it into a money grab.

Weeks 1-10 matter less now. Participation and attendance will continue to decline, not JUST because of the longer season of course but no snowflake in an avalanche ever takes responsibility.

And a home playoff game used to be the mothers milk of an AD budget, like a 20% bump from your headliner that normally only gives you 5 home games to suckle at. OHSAA took that too! They only used to take the walk up gate day of, but presale went all to the schools, then started at like $2 to Cbus, now it’s just like schools get Parking and concessions, eF off Columbus ya greedy golems. Schools will not be able to unwind this because once Columbus gets their taste they never stop being hungry.

Congrats to the few schools that get to lie to themselves for a week or two longer so OH$AA can get back to planning its next Hawaii ‘business’ trip a little sooner… I’m in a mood and I know the sport and teams and kids will be fine and all and it don’t matter but I disagree with anyone who thinks any of this is now in a better spot for anyone but like 20 or however many ngo technocrat hogs there are in Columbus.

Well the best of both worlds was the original 12 team per region expansion. It helped out those teams that were good, but missed qualifying while eliminating the butt kickings. Not mention the first round was 5-12. If you make it through that round, you’ve earned the right to play 1-4. That is why coaches are so mad at OHSAA. Not everyone should get in. Football is different. In soccer, basketball, baseball so on, a kid is less likely to get hurt. Embarrassed yes, but not hurt.

you go up against one of these schools that head hunts (looking at you harvest prep), it can be dangerous for those kids. There are some coaches that only care about stats. Several years ago the Harvest coach tried to get Millersport to come out for a second half. His kids were obviously told to take people out. The coach threw a fit when Millersport said they were forfeiting for the safety of their kids and to be able to finish the season.

Someone like Millersport should not be in the playoffs this year, it endangers those kids ability to play their other sports.

umm if that is true the coach of said harvest prep should be charged criminally.

oh puleez, the amount of gate for first round games everybody knows are going to be mostly blowouts, and if not, there are 5 more games to go to if the team wins, and if not? nobody cared.

there isn't a lot of gate generated by first round games in ANY Division.
Well then, if it's not for the money being generated, I have no clue why they expanded.

I Don’t disagree. It is true though. Know a guy that was on the staff at Millersport. He wanted to come out to give his RB more yards. RB’s dad was yelling from the stands to take him out. Coach told dad to shut up. He told them to target because Millersport’s smaller players were chopping their OL.

he even reported them to the OHSAA for not coming back out to play the 2nd half

it doesn't matter that some dog won this week when they are going to get mercy clocked as a reward.

and most of them will.
All but seven on them will lose. Some of the final fourteen with get "mercy clocked" as a reward. My contention was sound, try not to be a moron. If you're going to argue against 16 or for 8 or some other number, try not to be a moron when doing it. Use something sound as reason other than anecdotes, conjectures, wishes and farts. And definitely stop showing fear of actual facts that you on the surface presume negate your wishes and farts.

Why did they expand the playoffs? It would be helpful if you added a bit more than yes. If the expansion was due to Covid, like I've been seeing all over this message board, I'd like to know why they didn't return to the previous format, once Covid became much less of an issue. If it's not because the organization can haul in six figures more at a minimum, what exactly is the reason for Lebanon to go get their tails kicked at Lakota West?

I didn't realize that there was a time with 12 and 1-4 got a first round bye. The data this year seems to support that structure. 1-4 won just about all their games over 13-16 with a few exceptions, but Harbin points amassed weren't at all a good predictor of winners in 5-12.

Yeah it was a done deal agreement between the coaches association and the OHSAA. Then COVID hit and the OHSAA saw all the money they could make.
Glad to see someone else remembers how a compromise was reached and then the OHSAA unilaterally told coaches and schools to go suck an egg.

The 12-team regional qualifiers never went into effect.

They went from 8 in 2019 to all in 2020 to 16 in 2021.

From May 20, 2020

COLUMBUS, OhioDuring its May meeting Wednesday afternoon, the Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors voted unanimously to expand the OHSAA football playoffs from eight schools per region to 12 beginning in the 2021 season. The 9-0 affirmative vote was given to a recommendation from the OHSAA staff, which was based on a proposal from the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association.

Then came the Fall of 2020, the Covid season, where all teams qualified by default, so the 12-team bracket never occurred because...

From April 22, 2021

COLUMBUS, OhioThe Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors approved the 2021 football tournament regulations Thursday during its April Board meeting that included proposals from the OHSAA staff to increase the number of playoff qualifiers and change the format of the regional playoffs.

The number of playoff qualifiers will expand to 16 schools per region. In addition, the higher seeded team will host first and second round playoff games, instead of only the first round, before neutral sites are used beginning with the regional semifinals. In the first round, the No. 16 seed will play at the No. 1 seed, the No. 15 seed will play at the No. 2 seed, etc.

Oh well that changes the scenario.

Millersport players were intentionally trying to injure Harvest Prep linemen by diving at their knees ?

I saw Hilliard Davidson players doing that against Cleveland Glenville in the state finals a few years back.

so that changes it to retaliation instead of simple malicious intent to injure or "targetting"

the great majority if not ALL seeds below 8 will be gone in round 3.

that is NONE will make it past Round 3 Zero, zip, nada.

Wanna place a gentlemans bet?

If member schools don't like it they can vote to change it.

Send your complaint to you board of education.
Lol they did then OHSAA didn’t let the Covid crisis go to waste and and threw the voted on plan out the window. Try again.
