Top 10 - Six Human Polls

SLC has played 3 decent teams this year

MNW - Lost
Rockwall - won by 7 while giving up 42 pts
Flower Mound - 1st round of the playoffs - won by 11

Is SLC Championship material this year???

You forgot to add that they played without Newton and Cantu against Flower Mound.

Truth doesn't apply to SLCdad. Whatever's convenient to him living his dream of being good at something vicariously through his kids and their friends does. Come on, Woody. You know this by now.

LOL Do you really want truth? LOL I don't think so.

The TRUTH is that the polling experts say SLC is the 4th best team in the nation. I'm not saying that, THEY ARE.

The TRUTH is that WoodyHayes bases his opinion on what a 7 on 7 ref said about SLC last summer. LOL

The TRUTH is that SLC put up 582 yards of offense last night with three division 1 offensive starters injured (Newton, Cantu, Leppo) including their
#1 running back, #1 receiver and #1 offensive lineman.

Good call on the X Colerain game, your football knowledge could be taken with a grain of salt after that blew up in your face.

I don't know if SLC can beat defending 5A 2 state champ Cedar Hill this week without Tre Newton, Blake Cantu, Nick Leppo (all d1 recruits) and all of the other missing players (D1 linebacker Derek Tomlin playing at 1/2 strength). If SLC can get healthy, they can play with any team in the nation.

SLC played 3 more teams with records as good or better than Rockwall and/or Flower Mound. Wouldn't that be SIX decent teams?

look at cnnsi

they have california's #1 team at 15

california is considered along with florida, texas and ohio to be the states with the strongest high school football in the nation and of course californai has SO MANY schools that being the state's #1 team should mean something

they have teams from alabama and mississippi etc rated ahead of california's #1 team

I believe the discrepancy between dls top rating 3 and its lowest rating 15 is about the largest of all the top schools

maybe they are right

but then again maybe they are way off

that happens with OPINIONS

Remember Bellvue, that club from a state that produces nowhere near the talent Alabama and Missisippi churn out? Don't be too sure the pollsters so far off base.

In the post game press conference at The Herbstreit Rush Propst, Hoover coach, was speaking about prep football on the national level. He made the statement, which I agree with, "football just seems to mean more in some states." He then named Alabama, Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas. He also said their were others. He basically inferred the talent may not equal Florida and California man for man but the football played there is top notch. He went onto say that Prattville had as good a prep team in 2006 as he had seen. Big, fast, explosive footballers. He said, "if their is a better high school football team in America I want to see them because I got to see Prattville last year up close." Prattville beat Hoover fairly handily in the Alabama 6A championship.

I think he was trying to get across the point that those small states turn out some good talent and play quality football. Note the rosters for Alabama and Auburn have alot of kids from the home state and the population there is not huge.
Hoover brought a young team in a rebuilding year into Nippert and made a strong showing.

"Per capita", Georgia, Louisiana, and South Carolina produce more talent than Florida or California year in and out. NCAA or NFL!Alabama might also.USA today had the numbers broken down awhile back state by state. Not just in actual numbers but also ratio to population.Auburn is usually loaded with Georgia boys.William Andrews, James Brooks, Takeo Spikes, Ronnie Brown, Carlos Rodgers, Tracy and David Rocker, Nate Hill, Lional "Little Train" James, are just some of the better known names. And thats not even getting into the many All American O-lineman Auburn has plucked from Georgia.Additionally, Auburn owns the Florida panhandle aka "Lower Alabama".

I agree with btango. Why is the SEC considered the best conference on a nearly annual basis? Fan support and the fact that the Southern states are loaded with players. I do think that national observers underrate football in states like Alabama and Georgia. ( And I think AL and GA absolutely destroy states like Indiana and Kentucky, which has implications relevant in another discussion..)

The only states Georgia takes a back seat to are TX,and CA. Georgia has districts with more NFL players than KY and IN.
http://www.ghsfha.org/ This site has every state score from 1948 through last night. In the forums there is a header "Atlanta City League". Boys High and Tech High traversed the nation east of the Missisippi River from the 1930's through 1946 playing and beating teams from PA, NJ,NY,MA,VA,MZ,AR,IL, KY,and of course FL,SC,NC,TN, MS,AL. Those two schools were split into approx 8 schools following the 1946 season. But they were truely "Road Kings" each playing as many as 5 out of state teams per year. From 1933-1946 Miami High's only losses were either to Boys High,Tech High or Richmond Academy. The Boys High -Miami High usually determined the "Southern" champion. They met 13 times. Miami high won 6, Boys High won 5, and there were 2 ties.points scored Miami High 146,
Boys High 136. Average ppg Miami 11.2, Boys 10.4. And 10 of those 13 games were played in the Orange Bowl. If any state has as comprehensive of a site detailing their states HS football history I haven't located it. Our record against OOS comp is second to none. And can be proved!Enjoy the site.Sorry no smack board, just history backed by credible sources.

Sure, but who do they play?

Independence had that long winning streak, but got beat by an elder team that probably wasn't even top-10 in the state of ohio.

In some of these "weaker" states, long winning streaks don't mean a whole lot...

If you think Alabama is a "weak" football state, then you probably don't know the diff between a chin strap and a jock strap! In 1985 the Moeller machine was visited by Huntsville-Johnson.The myth is that Johnson was a super team who used inelgible players.Actually they lost 3 games to Alabama teams. However they kicked Moeller's can 35-16. Oh and Moeller was Ohio Div 1 champs! Chew the fat on that one.

My bad, I guess I meant within the last 20 years.

WRONG. According to the Dallas paper the only thing higher than the point total SLC's defense gives up is the amount of divorce attorneys setting up shop in the "perfect city" According to the article you guys have quite a "randy" bunch" running around town. LOL.
Anyone interested in the article, it appeared in the Dallas Morning News.

I missed badly on that one

Good call on the X Colerain game, your football knowledge could be taken with a grain of salt after that blew up in your face.
go back through the season and you will see, I did not miss to many. Go to the Mooney thread and look at my prediction. I am not off at all on the SLC team. Good team = YES, Great Team = Not even close
I would call past SLC teams great, but this was just does not measure up. Unbiased but true.

Check your facts. Only 3.6% of the people over age 15 in Southlake are living in divorced or separated households. About 95% are married or never been married.

The social statistics in Southlake are terrific. Some people like to take shots at successful communities. WoodyHayes appears to be one of them.

No Title

Monday, partner Ike Vanden Eykel opened their third office in Southlake, right in the heart of Tarrant County's golden corridor

Southlake has affluence, a dominating high-school football team and is the envy of its less-shiny suburban neighbors. Can juicy high-profile divorces be far behind?

But this forum is about football. No title this year for the Dragons. And no, Southlake is not my cup of tea, I enjoy living in "real" Texas. But to refute more of your false claims, I pulled the 2 lines above from the Dallas Morning News. So maybe your right. Maybe the paper lied about one firm opening its 3rd office. Must be something to it. But back to football. You can not be to encouraged after the Flower Mound game.

I'll give you this . . . . you work very, very, very hard to take a shot at Southlake (even if you are wrong). Congrats. You must feel so good about youfself.
