Four teams are unanimous Top 10.
Texas has two teams in the top 4
Ohio has three teams in the top 10
Florida has two teams in the top 10

I'm not sure there are many more polls out there. USA Today is not all that well thought of in my experience. Nor was the Tony poll (RIP).

I think that's all of the polls I check, I can't think of anymore human polls. USA Today is probably one the worst of them all, even though it is for some reason the most repected.

they are all opinions

what makes usa today's opinions worse than the others?

Because, it's not realy well thought out, and I remember earlier this year, them leaving out a team that had 50+ staright wins and putting anote at the end ofthe poll that this was an oversite to be corrected.

its not really well thought out usually translates into the team I follow isnt rated as high as I want

one apparent (you offer no proof) small mistake makes it a bad poll?

there are three ohio teams in the top ten

maybe you are right it ISNT well thought out

lol

look at cnnsi

they have california's #1 team at 15

california is considered along with florida, texas and ohio to be the states with the strongest high school football in the nation and of course californai has SO MANY schools that being the state's #1 team should mean something

they have teams from alabama and mississippi etc rated ahead of california's #1 team

I believe the discrepancy between dls top rating 3 and its lowest rating 15 is about the largest of all the top schools

maybe they are right

but then again maybe they are way off

that happens with OPINIONS

One example that stands out in my mind was back in 2004. Moeller spanked Louisville St. X 40-odd to 20-odd. Moe was thumped by Eds, who finished .500 I thinkk. Moe had three losses in Ohio but LSX made the USA Today top 25.

Those are small states, but pound for pound they turn out lots of talent and the two schools you mention are dominant programs. I think DLS's issue is that they weren't as highly thought of as many schools early on. They have had to work to climb while the others just have had to maintain their poll spots. Some polls are more willing than others to move teams up quickly.

that i agree with

most polls had them outside the top 25

i guess outscoring your 9 opponents in the first half 279-14 impressed some polls more than others

when has prattville ever been considered a dominant program?

Personally, I like PrepNation the best. He isn't afraid to change the rankings because looks like the better team, although it came back to bite X's butt.

PrepNation and USAToday are probably the two most respected no?

Why not use all polls?

Depends on who is appointed to do the rankings, not the publication that is associated with them. USA Today has a new guy this year and I don't know his credentials.

PrepNation seems to do as good a job as can be done. But, ya still can't put much stock into what any of them say, IMHO.

In the post game press conference at The Herbstreit Rush Propst, Hoover coach, was speaking about prep football on the national level. He made the statement, which I agree with, "football just seems to mean more in some states." He then named Alabama, Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas. He also said their were others. He basically inferred the talent may not equal Florida and California man for man but the football played there is top notch. He went onto say that Prattville had as good a prep team in 2006 as he had seen. Big, fast, explosive footballers. He said, "if their is a better high school football team in America I want to see them because I got to see Prattville last year up close." Prattville beat Hoover fairly handily in the Alabama 6A championship.

I think he was trying to get across the point that those small states turn out some good talent and play quality football. Note the rosters for Alabama and Auburn have alot of kids from the home state and the population there is not huge.

Hoover brought a young team in a rebuilding year into Nippert and made a strong showing.

USA Today gets alot of info incorrect. To completely leave out South Panola was huge. The new guy covered the WNBA on his last assignment. I have always found the poll to be the most well known and probably the least respected by people who trully follow the game. Give me PrepNation and Student Sports.

Make fun of Mississippi but that states turns out a load of college players and has about the highest per capita ratio of NFLers.

They are 62-3 since 2003.

Sure, but who do they play?

Independence had that long winning streak, but got beat by an elder team that probably wasn't even top-10 in the state of ohio.

In some of these "weaker" states, long winning streaks don't mean a whole lot...

I agree with btango. Why is the SEC considered the best conference on a nearly annual basis? Fan support and the fact that the Southern states are loaded with players. I do think that national observers underrate football in states like Alabama and Georgia. ( And I think AL and GA absolutely destroy states like Indiana and Kentucky, which has implications relevant in another discussion..)

SLC just does not belong in the top 15 or maybe 20 this year. Sorry but true is true.

Truth doesn't apply to SLCdad. Whatever's convenient to him living his dream of being good at something vicariously through his kids and their friends does. Come on, Woody. You know this by now.

ALL if the pollsters disagree with you. You are entitled to your opinion, even if it's wrong.

SLC played tonight without Tre Newton or Blake Cantu. Riley Dodge had over 200 yards rushing and over 300 yards passing. Total about 565 yards offense (himself) and 5 TDs.

Riley Dodge is the best player in Texas this year. He may not be the best college prospect, but he is the best high school player in Texas.

And this is based off of what? The fact that they lost to MNW? You wish.....

SLC has played 3 decent teams this year

MNW - Lost
Rockwall - won by 7 while giving up 42 pts
Flower Mound - 1st round of the playoffs - won by 11

Is SLC Championship material this year???
