Three teams drop out to avoid playing Marion Local in playoffs…

Because he has rated himself, being from NE ohio (football capitol of the galaxy don't you know), as the sole knowledge of good teams. He doesn't even need to see them play, know their coach, or even having been to their town.
Recall I mentioned that in the past that I acknowledged that Trotwood-Madison and SW Ohio was dominant previously in D-III, prior to NEO having most of the top teams in recent years outside of TCC the past 2 seasons.

I have seen Marion Local play four times in person, they lost every time. I think I saw them play in 2004 and 2005 if I am not mistaken.
So you saw them in the years they weren't very good. Got it. You seen them since 2010? I would recall that 10 of their 14 titles have come since then. Seems like they've figured something out.

Edit: Goodwin has had one losing season as coach of ML and you guessed it. It was 2004. 2005 wasn't much better.

In the 4 games I saw Marion Local only scored 7 points in total, they were shutout in 3 of the 4 games, the only game they scored was one TD against Coldwater, Coldwater scored 42 or something like that.

That's great. You gonna answer my question?

Might wanna take in another game. I guarantee it's a lot different than 2004
I didn't even watch my Alma Mater win the state championship a couple years ago, and I was actually in Stark County that day for work, allbeit near Fairless High School. My clients seldom give me much leeway anymore, the State of Ohio was my client on the day in question.

2004 was a terrible year for the Marion squad. If memory serves, the starting QB was killed in an accident. They took half the year to regroup, then finished decently strong.

Everyone here keeps on saying Marion Local could "compete" with the big schools so if that is the case they will opt up next year if not then they realize they don't have a chance and everyone's claims on here were ludicrous and absolutely false. If they opt up then we can see what they do in the playoffs in D-I
There was this one time when I was fishing and they were biting like crazy.

So much so I started to run out of bait so I kept putting smaller and smaller pieces of nightcrawlers on it but they just kept on biting.

They kept biting even when I ran out of bait and just tossed in the hook.

This thread reminds me of that day.

They finished the season getting slaughtered at New Bremen if my memory serves me correctly as it was one of the games I attended they didn't score. Shame about the QB passing away nonetheless if that was the case.

I completely agree with what you're saying. Computer points don't look favorably on losing to a D7 school though.
The biggest issue is still scheduling a year in advance. Playing a team that played well last year is not a guarantee they will have a winning season this year. Having a competitive week 1 just for the sake of the game would be nice but not expected every year.

20 years now, where'd they go? 20 years, I don't know. I sit and I wonder sometimes, where they've gone.

Did you miss the part where Marion DID play up the second week of the season with a D3 school? (Franklin)
Marion has scheduled a D3 school either week 1 or 2 since 2016. The exception being a D4 team in 2018.
How can you make a statement like "schedule up" but not realize that they consistently do so and win those games?
Clarify, schedule up against a worthy opponent - which they don't do.

Do you realize that's 4 divisions??? Schools that are actually 3 times the size of ML. You can't just wave a magic wand, and, POOF there's a worthy apponent. Smaller Schools are not blessed with wealthy boosters to help with the logistics to do something like that year in and year out.

Yeah no one pays any attention to the fact that Drew Pasteur has readily admitted he himself doesn't personally agree with the rankings of his algorithms when it comes to the smaller school division teams such as Marion Local and Kirtland.
Must be the same situation as MaxPreps ranking ML #1 in the nation (small town schools).

7 divisions is too many. Divisions 6 and 7 are splitting hairs enrollment-wise at that point.
For what it's worth, the Georgia GHSA has dropped from the previous seven to six classifications(divisions) in 2024. With the rare oddity of the probable best team in the state, dropping all the way to FIVE A, in National #3 Milton.

In other news, it seems as though five of the top fifteen players in the state, have opted to play in the two largest states in the country, two commits to Texas A&M, one to Texas, and two to USC!

And in what may actually be an outcome, long in the making. The GHSA has proposed that instead of breaking the states classifications into six divisions in the future. A proposal in the GHSA, is for the top teams in the state, regardless of size, may be grouped with an undisclosed number of teams of similar success. forsaken student enrollment, for year 2026. The goal I suppose, is to play in a grand format in coming seasons, to see who truly IS the baddest bear in the forest. Of course, whatever acclaim any of those teams may have gained in the past. May surely go by the wayside, as these teams will merely cannibalize one another. As the state newspapers; SPORTS ILLUSTRATED has foolishly portrayed 1-6A as the LIL SEC, or as is currently known, the Region of Doom, have done this season. Nationally ranked Camden Co. didn't even make the four team state playoff format. While previously nationally ranked Valdosta, lost to region runners up Lowndes last night, in the Winnersville Classic. To barely make those playoffs as the #3 Region 1-6A seed, before an SRO crowd of 16,000 at the Vikings Martin Stadium.

ANYWHO, looks as though we may start having two nationally ranked teams at midseason instead of thirteen, as Georgia traditionally had, through a process of weeding out the chaff.

On a lighter note, good luck in Happy Valley today, against the Fightin White Outers. Maybe BOTH of our teams can figure out our offensive woah's today.

Three teams that are soft and cowards with no heart .You don't see the team that got their butt kicked 63-0 already by them refusing to play again. You don't not play a team because you dont think you can beat them. That's weak AF
Can somebody kindly explain the reasoning behind Massillon, at 8-2, being nationally ranked? And a rebuilding Colquitt team, not being ranked since week four of the season? Northern bias perhaps? And our 7-3 record was accrued against three teams with a cumulative record of 27-3 and all nationally ranked?

I don't know where you see this National rank because Massillon isn't in the top 25. They were at one time after beating St Eds.They are at #32 in max preps. Where do you want them ranked at??? They have two losses one to the #15 team in the nation and one to the #23 team in the nation
