the elder hype?

I think that milford would totally dominate Elder..i mean loses to colerain and X..no disrespect to either of the teams..but with all of the hype comes expectations, and those are games that you are expected to win..and beating Sycamore 2-1 and OH 2-0... :(...even though milford did lose to them in a scrimmage over the summer..that was because we had about 7 current JV players on the team at the time..and we had our JV keeper in..really made a difference because he got 5 goals scored on him.

First off, I think you underestimate the Elder/OH rivalry...go to that game and tell me that OH didn't play their best game all season.
Secondly, milford would never dominate Elder especially if both teams were playing their top game...I think it'd be a close game. Milford would have more possession, Elder would have more shots. I don't think Milford has a good enough defender to contain Meyer AND schaefer all game long. I've been to 3 Milford games and just haven't seen it yet(besides a good keep). Elder has a weak D as well. Now their central midfield is hurt because they just lost another starter on Tuesday with a broken foot.

As for tonight's game against IH...Elder didn't even look like a top 10 team in the city. Elder practically gifted IH 2 goals-one by stabbing 3 times and the other on a bad decision by the keep to come out. Yeah, Meyer was out due to a concussion I believe and so was the starting mid who is out as well, but I still don't think that is an excuse. Meyer would have scored 2 or 3 against their D. I saw a different lineup tonight with players who normally never play. Maybe that is because the tournament seed voting was last night and the coach didn't care that much. I don't know. But if Elder plays like that again or how they did against X...they will be out the 2nd or 3rd round of the tourney. Simply bad play. Right now Milford does deserve a spot higher than Elder. Milford is playing better ball. But take the best ball between the two teams and it's Elder.

By the way, never say Colerain isn't a good team. 10-3-1 and have knocked off two of the top teams (Elder and West) in the city and tied the best team. Now that just doesn't happen by chance. But it is easier to get up for a game being an underdog. Colerain can be a sleeper.

Now don't take too much away from IH. No doubt that the two injured players are big time, but are you going to say that Elder is a two man team? That sure doesn't sound like a top ten team in the city. Elder looked like they underestimated IH and came out soft, but IH was able to keep them at bay once they stepped it up. Elder had plenty of chances to score on their numerous free kicks in the last couple of minutes. Yes Elder is a good team and yes they were missing possibly their two best players, but give IH some credit for a hard fought game against a powerful DI school.

I never said IH was bad, they are decent. Elder did look soft in the beginning of the game just like they have in their past 3 games. Like I said before, a little different lineup than normal, which shouldn't matter a whole lot. But yes, Elder relies heavily on Meyer. If he can't score goals, he's throwing the ball into the back post on every throw-in and getting assists. Not having him play is a two-fold problem. But bottom line is Elder looked HORRIBLE. Come on, did they even string five passes together? Maybe once. Simply put, that is their worst game of the season and they didn't look top 10.

starters out- anthony meyer and keith kredwise

plus the coach played 3 kids almost the whole game who have probably seen around 10mins on the field combined...i dont know if the coach didnt care since the seedings have already happened or what..but it was unusaul...

both IH goals werent anyhting speical...but there are no excuses...

IH coached the game very well also...they got up 2-1 at half...and played defense the rest of the game..... well coached

all and all...IH beat a better Elder team

There has been a lot of talk about the Elder/OH game and questions on why Elder didn't score more than two goals.

I have had both Elder and OH twice this year and I will tell you that both of them played differently in this game than the other that I had them in. There is definitly something to be said with the rivalry between them because of the different attitude that I saw from both teams that night. But more than that, the reason that Elder didn't score more was because OH's keeper had probably on of the best keeper performances that I have ever seen in HS Soccer. Elder had a multitude of shots and opportunities to score and the keeper was all over them. Many diving saves on great shots taken both inside and out of the box. He stole a lot of balls out of the air and came out of the box several times to intercept balls that I normally wouldn't see keepers get to. Again, probably one of the best performances by a keeper that I have ever seen in HS Soccer.

I've seen most D1 teams in the city play. Now if we can exclude the variable that sometimes its who you play on how you play, and just rate on an any given day performance, bottom line is that elder is playing at a level middle of the road in the top 10. Argueably a 5, 6 or 7. With that said, I think almost any team in the top 10 could make some noise in the tourny, specifically, Sycamore, St.X, Colerain, East, and if you look at tourny stats, Loveland has played a district final 3 years running. So, Mason, Milford, West, Elder, be careful, keep your foot on the gas....

I'm glad to see someone else agrees that Colerain, st.X and sycamore are legit.

Elder Hype??

Anyone know what happened w/ Loveland v. Mason this afternoon?

Top 3 are justified:
Mason
LW
Elder
St. X I question as #4 in front of Milford.....MHS is a solid 4 & nothing higher based on their results w/ the top 2 at least.

D1 state draw is Sunday. Brackets & seeds posted early next week.

Agreed. Even without those two Elder is definitely still good enough to beat IH by multiple goals. But they didn't and it's no one's fault but their own.

All predictions out there were legit. Mason senior day started all seniors, seemed disorganized at first, and as a result found themselves down 2-0 early in the match. They found themselves quickly and rattled off 4 straight before half. At this point all predictions that Loveland would begin thinking about homecoming were also true. Mason 5, Loveland 2, word has it, nothing real pretty about this game, oh, except some ref issues, imagine that!

I Guess We'll Find Out

Based on seedings & brackets....hopefully we'll finally find out non pre season who is the better team between Elder & Milford.

GCL v. FAVC new comer.

True...veryyy true

have a great keeper in Austin...have trained with him a few dozen times..and i have to say he has great technique and he has one of the longest reachs especially being a 91' in the ODP scheme...and i have seen casey widdle (or however you spell it) also another fantastic player..great touch and accelerates quickly with the ball. could definatly be a sleeper..

Dont know much about them other than that but should be a crazy tournament coming up with at least 2-3 sleepers on the cincinnati side and

Anthony Meyer

Best striker out there, div 1, 2, 3, 4 whatever. His goals speak for him! Every team who plays him knows it.

I don't understand how you can say that Milford doesn't have a good enough defense? 3 games is not enough to determine anything. Our DEFENSE is what held the whole team together this season and earned us an 11-4-1 season(not very impressive I know, but still). Our defense has helped us incredibly the whole season because of how well we mark players out of the game.

Pre-season we were very unorganized and out of shape, we have improved tremendously as a team. I look forward to playing Elder in the 3rd round of State(knock on wood), should be a huge game. I believe we can shut Meyer and Schaefer(?) out of the game.

Elder Hype

Bingo....greatest strength is greatest weakness. "Every team" knows it now. Every team will or should place man on him one on one....entire game regardless of offense or defense. Secondly, he should make sure his mom goes to Wal*Mart & buys some SHOUT for the tourney since he'll more than likely be picking himself off the turf from the first whistle. Great teams don't let great players hold or touch the ball too long. He'll be hearing footsteps & if well coached will be knocked off the ball "legally" from day one. Can he play this style of soccer????

Ok, never said Milford's defense wasn't good...I just said they have no one to contain him the WHOLE game. Now, it is a different story if he will finish every thing that is given to him.

Secondly, the kid is a man among boys out there...how else do you think he scores goals?? By pure skill? The kid takes hits and dishes them out. Of course everyone team knows what he can do, that's why it's so fun to watch him do different things each game given the different situations he is put up against. Also, there is no defensive player that will knock him to the ground "legally" EVERY time...takes alot to bring him down. Yes, he can be defended...every one can be. As I said before, you can't stop him every time...it's up to him if he can finish with what may be the little chances he is given. It will be fun though if Milford plays them. Definitely a game I will attend. Both have some dangerous players.

Tourny

If both teams make it.....it would be Huber Heights Wayne and Elder......at Princeton......what do you think the outcome will be?

To be honest, I know nothing about Wayne except that they have a pretty good team. So I couldn't tell ya what Wayne would do against anyone.

just throwing this out there but im pretty sure St. X shut him down. If i remember right he had one shot and it wasnt on frame.

One shot? He had 5 and got a concussion if I remember right. Oh yeah, ask the Elder players how many times he got the ball first half. Can't shoot when your team can't get you the ball. I never said he was god, nor did I agree he was the best striker in the city. You're not the only team he hasnt scored against. Don't flatter yourself.

Wow, they know it and he still scores many, many, many goals.

Radar, I guess he has just been floating along all season and not one team came up with your defense against him. You should be a coach, you could rule the GCL, the GMC maybe even World Cup. Wake up son, every team has tried to stop him. Goal count, check it out, I think your radar is off this time.

Quick Licking the Envelope

Mr. Envelope.....WMT & Super Target have SHOUT on sale this week. I guess starting this weekend & hopefully next week we'll all see just how good he really is when he begin:Ohno: s to play some talented teams. You should think about buying the peel & stick envelopes instead of the lick'em type.

i have never seen elder play but from what i hear if Wayne can handle Meyer, they got the game won. but well never know until game time

Wayne-Elder

Elder has to get to Princeton first....love it....teams who think ahead & discount their next opponent. Must be a purple thing!:crush:
