SW Ohio Lacrosse

St. X takes home most position player of the year awards (Midfield, Attack, FO, Goalie, LSM, SSDM) outside of Defense, along with head and assistant coach of the year and region player of the year. Sycamore's Brenkert brings home defensemen of the year in Region 4. Mason and Sycamore each have 4 first team all region with St. X having 8, no surprise really.

Does anyone here know how the players are selected? Coaches offer their players and stats and then they're voted on? Do they just look at stats or do they try to "spread" the honors around?

From what I've heard, coaches put up players and then they are voted on by all coaches in the region. I would guess there is some discrepancy in the stats where some could be inflated because of competition and some coaches haven't seen or heard of a lot of the players so they base it solely on stats and a description maybe?

Saw on twitter it may not be done in person, which it 100% should be

Its done by a spreadsheet each coach edits and is shared, spreadsheet includes relevant stats and a section where coaches can explain who the player is, accolades, best performances, etc. Even if a coach hadn’t seen a player ever play they are expected to rank them (which allegedly led to that one 30 goal playoff game last year because one coach voted in a certain way)

Short version: not in person, strictly online, no film accompanying players, only stats and the word of their coach

Yeah, those parents want it to be about them and their kid and not the team. Who cares. Whatever they are doing over there is working clearly.
Probably the same parents complaining about playing time too from what I have heard. Funny that they think just because they made the team that they deserve PT. Some of them probably wouldnt even be on the roster if the senior class wasnt so deep and they needed to fill holes next year

So there is possibility that some players are penalized because another coach hasn't seen them play and can't "verify" if the stats are legit or if they came in garbage time.

Nope we got it. Some parents are upset they put him at pregame captain. Boo freakin hoo
Disagree, no dog in fight, totally think it was a really weird move for a mid year transfer that then had to sit out the rest of the season. And it wasn’t just parents who thought so, kids on X team and other teams thought it was dumb

Interestingly for the MSLCA all star teams, the opposing coaches vote on players after each game (or at least that was how it worked for years). We had a kid on our team who was selected first team MSLCA and wasnt chosen for any district honors because the coach didnt even nominate him.

Basically yeah, its a lot easier for say, a St.X kid, to get votes due to everyone in the city knowing the pedigree of the program and seeing it next to his name….. not saying big program players didn’t/ don’t deserve the votes for their play just letting yall know how the system works and its drawbacks

Another heartbreaker for the Mason boys. Up 9-6 at the end of the 3rd quarter, only to lose 12-11 to St X again.

Tough tourney exit - 2 years in a row. I guess I’ll have to root for the Bombers now.

The more I learn about the OHSAA, the more embarassing it becomes. That was the best 3 officials for the Region 4 championship?!?!?!?! Absolutley embarrassing game for those 3 men

Mason started to play "not to lose" and it cost them dearly. I will never understand coaches that go into that mode at the end of game. Keep playing the same way that got you there.

I don't think they changed up anything. X woke up and started to match the physicality of Mason. Mason also seemed a little gassed toward the end. Im not sure how deep their bench is, but fatigue seemed to be a factor.

Mason was trying to slow the game down at the end, definitely a lot less aggressive. StX probably got more aggressive and it played right into their hands as Mason did not keep their foot on the gas pedal

Mason dominated the 1st half, got every scramble and loose ball. Then in the 2nd half X dominated. X outshot the comets by a very large margin too. Mason has a couple really good players, X had more talent and depth, plus X faceoff was killing it, he couldn't have lost but 1 maybe 2. It was a very exciting game to watch. Good luck to X at state and congrats on a very strong season Mason.

Anyone know much about Kilbourne? I know they have all time scorer in the state and a solid goalie, but outside of them not much else about the team. Seems like they've played a decent schedule as well.
