SW Ohio Lacrosse

Region 4:
1 St.X vs 6 Milford (Sweet 16)
2 Mason vs 9 Elder (5/24)
3 Springboro vs 4 Moeller (5/24)

Region 8:
2 Bellbrook vs 3 Mariemont (Sweet 16)
1 Fenwick vs 4 CHCA (Sweet 16)

Springboro vs Moeller is the game I’m gonna keep an eye on, Moeller lost the match up early in the season pretty bad 17-9 but with second time meetings and a whole season of development, that score could very well be flipped around at the end of the game today.

Mason vs Elder: Elder’s all-American face off specialist can do a lot for them, but Mason will be a true test, Mason loses most of the faceoffs but still rolls to an easy victory.

St.X vs Milford: Milford has talent, but St.X has more. Should be close at the beginning but expect the bombers to pull away at any point. I don’t know why Milford didn’t go straight for Moeller when choosing their spot on the bracket, Moe is (relatively) down this year, granted they would’ve had to play Springboro (one team on the long list of opponents St.X beat this year) if they had beaten the Crusaders

Fenwick vs CHCA is a rematch of a one goal regular season game, should be interesting.

Bellbrook vs Mariemont…….. Bellbrook rolls and hosts either Fenwick or CHCA (Bellbrook beat Fenwick by 3 and CHCA by 2 in the regular season)

Springboro at Mason: rematch of a regular season game @ Springboro that ended in Masons favor 7-4. From that alone I think it’s going to be a great game, maybe a chance for Springboro to get some revenge. Any insight on this game or the others would be appreciated

Region 4
St.X 22 Milford 6 (wow)
Mason 12 Springboro 5
Region 8
Fenwick 15 CHCA 7
Bellbrook 9 Mariemont 7

Region 4 Final
2 Mason @ 1 St.X
Next verse same as the first it’s St.X all day, real question is how many they’ll score. Does anyone know what happened in the X Vs Miamisburg game to compel X to score 31?

Final score at RDI stadium ST.X 13 Mason 12 the bombers are regional champs after holding off a last second push by the comets. Mason went on an 8-0 run to tie the game, then a clutch goal by St.X late in the fourth, great timeouts and rock solid defense punched their ticket to Springfield, where they will wear white at Wittenberg University as they take on the Upper Arlington Golden Bears. Congrats to Mason on an amazing comeback and season. Of course, congrats to the Bombers, go get the GCL another State Championship and get some revenge on Upper Arlington

The St. Xavier Bomber take on the Olentangy Liberty Patriots in the State Championship today at 4pm in Columbus

Rematch of a 14-11 Patriots win back in May, chance for St.X to avenge their only other in-state loss.

Heard the Miamisburg coaches put St. X players last in all region voting, including Hocker. Could have played into that score.

Inside sources say you’re 100% right on the voting for all region but I was also told the stats that were provided (some X kids were just straight up missing most stats) for the X players weren’t all that impressive. He probably never saw them play, assumed they’d get votes for having St.X next to their name and decided that wasn’t enough for him. He should’ve watched some film but aye, ya get what ya get

I’ve wondered what is the general consensus on St. X’s coach. I've heard he is like an enigma. I know they win, and have success, but are they winning because of him or in spite of him? Looking at their program I do think it will end up being a disservice not coordinating a Freshman team the past couple of years.

Look, the best kids from the crusaders program seem to split between Moeller and X (from what I remember) the best players in the “little lancers” have always gone to X. Seeing as they lost to the same team twice this year with no real improvement, I’d say it’s the coaching. With the amount of talent they always have every year I believe a grade school coach could get them to the state final every year. I don’t think the Mason game should have been that close in the playoffs. Outside looking in I don’t think he’s an amazing coach and not having the restraint to take it easy on a lower caliber team just because of some votes is classless. I expect better from X.

A friend told me he brought up a few players from JV after their season (Their 2 sophomore captains, and another sophomore, and 2 freshman) and never told them they were only there for practice while they got healthy. So during the playoffs they were on the sideline but never dressed. Then one game he dressed the 2 freshman that never played a ton on JV bypassing the 2 captains that were the heart and soul of the JV. I don't understand why you wouldn't just dress them all and let them learn and get the experience of what its like and what it means to be in the playoffs. They already know they wouldn't get in unless things got crazy, but with him he would just leave the starters in (see the score of the Milford game).

I mean, lets be honest, one team has been in the semi finals each of the last 7 seasons and 8 of the last 9. And they have been to 5 state championships winning 2. Sure maybe they should have 1 or 2 more but they have been the most consistently good team in the state outside of UA for the past decade.

I don't think anyone is disputing they are a consistently good team. The initial query was are they good because of the coach, or do they win in spite of the coach? Also wondering what the vibe was around the coach.

It seems like he puts them in positions to win. He seems a little strange but to be somewhere for 13 years and be as successful as he is he seems to be doing something right.

That was the whole reasoning for my initial query because he has been successful. Next question is with his son wrapping up this year, do we think he sticks around, or will X be looking for a new coach next year?
