You forgot Evan Fleetwood who is arguably their best returning OL. He started every game last season. Also forgot Tyson Cravens, he got some playing time at Varsity and has been on the Varsity Roster for 3 seasons. Hopefully they will have some quality depth at OL. They are losing 4 starting OL of which two of them are three year starters. To me this is the one position area that probably gets a lot stronger over the course of the season just because which 5 guys they put out there they haven't played together at any point in their careers at StX.

I think that there is some confusion on the Kattus boys.
Justin will be a Junior and played both TE and DE on JV before moving up to Varsity this season.
Tucker will be a Sophomore and played OL for the Freshman team. He has an offer from UK and will most likely be on the OL going forward. He is going to be a BIG fella by the time he is a Senior!!

I think you will want to keep an eye out for Gordy Sulfsted (SO) at TE as well. He played both TE and DE on the freshman team this year. He is looking at least 6'4" and is an athletic kid. His dad also played OL at Miami (OH) as well as in the NFL.

I used the roster on the GCL website that has Fleetwood and Cravens listed as seniors.....

LT #70 Drake Ross Sr. 6’3” 286lb / Tucker Kattus So. 6'4" 260lb offers from Kentucky, Miami (OH)

Klare handled most of the punting last year but Clark did get to kick 8 punts that netted 300 yards (37.5 average) with a long of 50 yards

Hammond returns at NG and there are more than a dozen contenders to land a spot in the rotation.

The entire secondary were seniors last season (Bareswilt, Kirk, Kemper, Anderson and Nolan)
Alex Devine had 16 tackles in 2021 mostly on special teams.
Hall and Harris moved up to varsity after the JV season ended.
Folke was one of the leaders on the JV defense.

A lot of sophomores will be competing for some PT on varsity.

The past 15 classes had a total of 40 players who logged significant PT as sophomores.
Mean average = 2.66, Median = 2, Mode = 2, Standard Deviation = 1.92

The Class of 2016 (no sophomores) and 2022 (9 of last year's seniors) are the 2 years that fall outside one standard deviation (Class of 2022 9 players so rare it is 3 sigma)

Could this year's sophomores (Class of 2025) have at least 5 players playing significant roles on varsity?

From 2010-2021: 93% (25/27) of these players played college ball at some level and 63% (17/27) played D1 college

Class of 2025: ????????
Class of 2024 (2): NG Ted Hammond, RB Steve Napier
Class of 2023 (2): DB Max Bonner, TE Joey Wassler
Class of 2022 (9): OL Cam Collins (Air Force), OL Brian Parker (Duke), Kickoff Max Klare (Purdue), CB Josh Anderson (Dayton), CB Ryan Nolan, FS Eli Kirk, OL Jack Renneker, PK Mason Rohmiller, RB Luke Vrsansky
Class of 2021 (2): OL Gio Albanese (Air Force), WR Liam Clifford (Penn State)
Class of 2020 (2): OL Jack Kirby (Penn), OL Paris Johnson (Ohio State)
Class of 2019 (2): LB Thomas Kiessling (Holy Cross), WR Jared Kreimer (Holy Cross)
Class of 2018 (1): RB Cameron Specht (Dayton)
Class of 2017 (3): QB Sean Clifford (Penn State), OL Matt Bockhorst (Clemson), WR Colton Paul (Ashland)
Class of 2016 (0) Nobody
Class of 2015 (4): NG Simeon Lane (Princeton), LB Cole Jones (Army), RB Ben Glines (BC), LB Justin Hilliard (OSU)
Class of 2014 (2): RB CJ Hilliard (Iowa) and WR/CB Ryan Frey
Class of 2013 (3): WR Trey Kilgore (Michigan St), *WR Kevin Milligan and LB Mark Jacob (Buffalo)
Class of 2012 (3): DE Nate Gerbus (Miami OH), C Brandyn Cook (Miami OH), RB Conor Hundley (Akron)
Class of 2011 (3): LB Steve Daniels (Boston College), LB Sean Duggan (Boston College), OL Jack Woodall (Princeton)
Class of 2010 (2): QB Luke Massa (Notre Dame) and OL Matt James (Notre Dame)
*significant time on varsity as a freshman

This year will be really interesting. The OL has really potential, even losing so much talent and experience. The two returning RB'S showed potential, and Wassler could be a stud. WR is a complete unknown, aside from Houston, who I love.

Defensive backfield will be completely new, if I remember right even the top two backups were seniors. Hammond is going to be a monster, though his size translates better to the end than the nose, and I wouldn't be surprised if he moved out. I think Adams was on defense until last year, could see him back on the nose. LB's should be the strength of the unit, which is a good thing in the stack as long as the line can keep blockers from getting up field.

The team has been so dominated by the class of 22 for the past two years, and even the 19 season to a degree. I really have no idea how this season will play out.

Plenty of talent just limited varsity experience since the 2021 team was senior heavy.
I'm fired up to watch camp and see how the team comes together.
This will be the most challenging camp for the coaching staff in awhile
Expecting to see massive player position changes.
The sophomore class is intriguing.

They've got talent. It will be very interesting seeing how they develop with another year in the weight room, and the new expectations of varsity. Its also going to be fun to see whats coming in via the freshman class next year. Always fun watching the younger guys develop. Its going to be a wild ride the next couple of years.

The team has been back working out for a few weeks now, anyone know how the young men are progressing?

HS Football on Sunday?
Dear God please forgive the Jesuits for what they have done

Yay, a 5 hour bus ride on a Sunday morning!

Loyola Academy located in Wilmette IL (north Chicago suburb) plays in the Chicago Catholic League Blue Division (Brother Rice, Mt. Carmel etc).

Return 12 Starters from last years 12-1 team that lost in the state semifinals

Offense (7)
QB Jake Stearney Sr. 6’3” 185lb dual threat, CCL player of the year
RB Will Nimesheim Jr. 5’9” 175lb
WR Spencer Leadbetter Sr. 6’2” 190lb 53 catches
TE Jack Fitzgerald Sr. 6’5” 220lb
TE Jack Parker Sr. 6’5” 230lb offers Western Michigan and Illinois St
OL Kyle Baltazar Jr. 6’3” 275lb
OL Michael Kostantonov Sr. 6’4” 315lb

Defense (5)
DE Brooks Bahr Sr. 6’6” 250lb 46 tackles and 3 sacks offers Iowa State, Purdue, Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan
DL Joe Kelly Jr. 6’2” 250lb
LB Ethan Hogg Jr. 6’3” 185lb
FS John McGuire Sr 6’2” 197lb 56 tackles
CB Gabe Gyorgy Sr. 6’0” 175lb

In comparison, the Bombers return 2 full time starters on defense (Hammond and Bonner), 1 full time starter on offense (Fleetwood)
and 4 part time starters on offense (Fogler, Houston, Wassler, Napier).

Challenging start to the season for an inexperienced team with Week 1 at Lakota West and Week 2 a 1pm Sunday ESPN game in Chicago
Wonder if the Bombers will choose to travel on Saturday............... doubt it.

At least the only other long distance away game is Louisville Trinity in week 6

What are your way too early preseason GCL projections for 2022?

I had Moeller penciled in to win the GCL but now they have lost their QB I think it could be a wide open race. It would not surprise me if LaSalle, Moeller, and StX all beat each other other and Elder goes 0-3.

I guess time will tell? What happened to Moes QB? Lets hope Elder has a nice long run in the basketball tourney. X played them well the other night. Could have gone either way.

Miraculously winning R4 and returning 6 key starters makes the Evil Empire the favorite entering the season but I am confident Coach Elder and birdog will muck it up and implode by mid season.
