St. Xavier Football 2022

According to the new scheduling app Coach Specht uses for the kids' wellness surveys, Week 1 vs Lakota West appears to be at TQL Stadium, home of FC Cincinnati. Do you guys think since X is home vs Moeller this year, the game won't be at Nippert like last year?
Curious, what are wellness surveys? Is that just a fancy word for getting a physical - or does he actually keep tabs on their physical and mental wellness throughout the season? If so, that's pretty cool.

Wow - that's pretty cool. It's cool seeing some high school programs get away from the "way we do things" and actually using technology and new ways of keeping kids engaged. Kudos to them.

It sends a message of "we care about you" rather than "you're going to do what we say and that's that". This goes a long way to enhance student experience and increase loyalty down the road. Cultural aspects that stand out.

Was already impressed with how Specht runs his ship - this just enhances that.

LCA is at X, right? Assuming I can get tickets to the Lakota West game, I think I might be at every game this year except Loyola.
The first 2 games of the season (Lakota West and Loyola Academy) are the most difficult for a young and inexperienced Bomber team.

Both games are on the road, with Week 2 being a 5 hour Sunday morning bus ride for a 1pm kickoff in Chicago on ESPN.

Both opponents made playoff runs and each team returns 12 starters, many which are D1 recruits.

Lakota West (11-2) lost 21-17 in R4 final and Loyola Academy (12-1) lost in state final 35-21

Would love to hear thoughts on the line-up for this coming season.

You think the 2 sophomores will get the nod over Sr. Jamaal Sharp? Also I heard there were rumblings of JR Gage Patrick moving from RB TO WR, or maybe the use him like Vrsansky. Aside from that position I think this is a great projection. What is the depth at RB looking like? I would think the plan would be to run the ball a lot to control the game until your QB really has a handle on things.

Agree the first two games are going to be really tough. I also think the Trinity game could be the toughest on the schedule. All of their best players are back from last season.

I believe the team is driving up to Chicago on the Saturday night before the game.

Competition at the receiver position should be interesting.

Sharp looked good pre-season last year both in practices and scrimmages but when the regular season started he disappeared.
He didn't catch a pass last year.....did he get injured? I absolutely hope he proves me wrong.

Only 3 of the 12 Bombers who caught passes last season return.
Joey Wassler (Sr. TE) 9 catches for 94 yards and 1 TD;
Robert Houston (Sr. WR) 2 catches for 36 yards and 1 TD
Doran Mason (Sr. TE) 2 catches for 15 yards

I saw several JV and Freshmen games and Shamsi and McColgan looked like varsity material....will they be ready as sophomores?
I imagine several players who may not have played WR last season will be looked at for the position......converted QBs, RBs and DBs

I think Napier can be a workhorse....he's added 10lbs and at 5'10" 200lb will be a load. Should be fun to watch.

Week 7 Trinity is a tough place to play.....the fans and refs are brutal and the train rolls by every 15 minutes blowing the whistle.
Last Bomber visit there was 10 years ago.

Week 2 Driving to Chicago the night before, past argument seems the pros outweigh the cons
Cons: limited roster, hotel bill and possible curfew nightmare.
Pros: daily routine not interrupted and players theoretically better rested

Opponent Rank (difficult to easiest): Loyola Academy, Lakota West, St. Ignatius, Moeller, Trinity, Life Christian Academy, Elder, LaSalle, Powell, Penn

GO X!

On the DLine Hammond likely moves outside and Adams fills the NG spot.
The end position opposite Hammond is wide open....in the projection I threw a bone to BDBW (see post #10).

There are 16 legit candidates for the spot.....
Seniors: Harris, Jackson, Hoynes, Holder and Morris
Juniors: Batton, Brice, Hester, Kattus (Justin), Seibel and Veech
Sophomores: Boerger, Dubois, Lehman, Saunders and Sulfsted

For the above players that don't win the spot, can any of them.......
1. win a starter role on the OLine? Lack the size or girth?
2. compete for the TE position opposite Wassler? a battle that already includes Scheurmann, Mason, Luke Klare and Jake Wassler
3. move to the defensive secondary - linebacker, safety or adjuster? Speed/quickness issue? Could Bonner play safety or adjuster to make room for one of them at Jet or is Bonner just too good at the position to be moved?

Hey ReJect, do you think you could garner two tickets to the X vs Moe game for me? I have only been to away games since Big Moe moved to that $h!+ hole in Norwood. I would be forever beholden to ya and would gladly compensate ya with a jug of moonshine and a copy of my new "banjos and squealing pigs" CD. Thanks, your friend birdog :)

I heard they are taking the whole program up to Chicago, freshman and jv will play Saturday and hopefully stick around for varsity game Sunday

With senior DLineman Antony Morris D1 offer from Morehead State the projected DLine is now...

DE #98 Antony Morris Sr. 6’2” 260lb offer from Morehead State
NG #72 Braylon Adams Sr. 6’0” 268lb
DE #97 Ted Hammond Jr. 6'5” 260lb offers from Vanderbilt, Temple, UMass, Duke, Pitt, Iowa, Minnesota, UConn and Miami (OH)

Good luck to him.
Was a likely 3 year varsity starter at StX which 70% of the time leads to a D1 college scholly
You have to be open to playing where the TEAM needs you, which isn't always where you want to play. Its a tough situation for a teen to navigate, especially if you don't feel like you're getting a fair shake to compete.

D Line is shaping up well, and that bodes well for the LB corps. Harris, Rose, and Bonner could have huge seasons with those three playing in front of them.

I think Hammond will remind us of Pat Muldoon who played DE 3 years from 2006-2008 then played at Wisconsin
Which Harris do you see at LB - Dijon or Cole?
I think the front 6 will be strong.
Any ideas on the secondary?

Was thinking Dijon, and Muldoon is a good comparison. No ideas on the secondary, didn't get to see much at the JV level, and it seems Luke seniors never left the field last year. I'm intrigued by the idea of moving Bonner to the Adjuster role, it seems like they have more depth at LB.

Dijon was the featured RB on JV as a Soph and last year as a Jr moved to DE but didn't get much PT with the emergence of Cummings.

Cummings played safety Soph year and LB Jr year before starting at DE his senior year and this fall will be playing college ball at Tiffin.

This season there may be as many as 11 seniors that land a starting position who got limited playing time as a junior (special teams, running clock)
and like Cummings and Harris may be playing a position they didn't play the previous 3 years.

I agree that with a glut of talented down linemen and LBs that if there is anyone in the front 6 mix that is capable of moving to safety or adjuster that may help get the best 11 on the field.

Remember when current Bengals DE Sam Hubbard played safety as a 6'6" 225lb senior at Moeller in 2013?
Maybe one of the lanky Bombers vying for PT on the DL will be able to drop back as a safety in the mold of Hubbard and wreak havoc on opposing TE's and WR's.

However it shakes out the front 6 of this defense will be strong and the secondary will be green.
The defense gets tested early as LW and LA have experienced and talented offensive skill players.

I don't know ReJect. It seems that in recent years the Bombers already had proven replacement players ready to step in and perform well in place of the graduating class from the previous year. This year seems to be much different, a total state of flux. If Moe's projected starting QB didn't have a brain fart, I would have to name the Crusaders as the prohibitive GCL-S favorites. As it stands right now, I think it is anybody's title to claim. I still like Big Moe though. One more thing, Hubbard was the second or third fastest player on that 2013 state championship team. GBM :)

For secondary you could move Bonner, but you have Folke that can play adjuster. Wiseman has played safety and Hall corner. Hall also got bumped up to varsity at the conclusion of the jv season. The secondary battles in camp will be interesting, but they definitely have numerous people that can play in the front 6

Hope always springs eternal in the jaded eyes of Moeller fans. But who knows? You know what they say about blind squirrels ...
