St. Ignatius basketball 2024-2025

In an afternoon game before a packed Sullivan gym the Cats eke out a 78-73 win over a pretty good ASVSM team. For the second straight game Cam started Mack over Thomas. It seemed to work as both those players had 10+ points. Thomas becomes more of a scoring threat coming off the bench. IMO, the Cats take too many 3s, instead of looking for an inside bucket. ASVSM employed a zone which probably accounted for all the 3 attempts.

Nice win by the Cats over the Eagles tonight 90-67. Scoring: Friery 22, Woidke 16, Johnson 14 with 10 in the scoring column
Defense was stifling in the 1st half, which drove the 28 pt lead at halftime.

Big game Sunday afternoon vs. Olentangy Orange (7-1) at JCU. Orange was a D1 regional finalist last year and has a lot returning. The Pioneers and Reynoldsburg are considered the top 2 D1 teams in the Columbus area and are a clear contender for a Final 4 berth

Kinda surprised at the talent discrepancy tonight. I watched the JV game and Eds doesn't seem to have anyone in the pipeline either. I wonder if Flannery is suffering from the same issues as late stage Chico with his program.

that surprises me! I thought Iggy would have dominated them?
The Irish are athletic, played really well and especially shot the ball well. The Irish had a good game plan to counter Friery. With their aggressive 2-1-2 zone, whenever he got the ball, there were always 2 defenders around him to contest a move to the basket or an outside shot. So, Ignatius had to depend on others to score. The Wildcats led almost wire-to-wire. First qtr was close - Wildcats led 20-17 and halftime by 11. After that, their lead ranged from 3 to 11 or 12. During the 2nd half, the Irish shot 6 of 8 on 3-pointers, several from well beyond arc, and closed the gap to 5 at the end. Entertaining game.

Moeller beat them 78 to 51, and I though the Iggy score would be at least the same?

Any news on the Centerville game for today given the inclement weather? Not too bad here in Cleveland but not sure Centerville would want to drive this far given the forecast?

St Ignatius posted on Twitter that the game is on. Also, heard that Centervilles team bus left.

Ignatius 68
Centerville 64

Always impressed with coach Cupps and how well his teams play. Great 3-point shooting tonight for the Elks.
Wildcats won it inside the paint. Friery - 20, Johnson - 14, Woidke - 14
I believe it's how Ignatius beat the ELKS last year in the State Final.

Moeller at full strength? Not so surprised iggy won but the margin is shocking.
From what I've read in the other posts on Yappi, Kingston Land has not played yet this year (and may not)
Otherwise, the entire squad that achieved a 10-1 record going into this past week all played this afternoon
Moeller has had a bad week (0-3) and seems to struggle to score - in the 3 losses this week = 47 pts vs Elder, 35 pts vs St X, 42 pts vs Ignatius

But you can watch the freshman if you want. Lol!
Watching the freshmen play gives one optimism for the future of Ignatius basketball. The frosh Cats have a 6'7" center who has a nice 10 foot jump shot. Additionally, three freshmen are playing on the JV team who are 6'4', 6'5", and 6'6". So as far as height is considered, Ignatius basketball has a great future.

It would be nice if they would post the varsity games. Don't understand why they don't.
