St. Ignatius basketball 2024-2025

Looks like Gonzaga has the tallest starting five that Ignatius will face this year. For all too many years I worked on the sixth floor of a building overlooking Gonzaga. I spent many an afternoon in the fall watching the Gonzaga football team practice.

There's a Gonzaga DC Classic youtube channel that should be streaming all the tournament games:

Apparently, this does not require a subscription, as I am seeing a live feed.

Too much talent and depth from Gonzaga. Perhaps the best HS hoops team I’ve ever seen at a non “academy” school. But a good showing from the Cats to keep it close for a half. There is nobody in Ohio even approaching Gonzaga’s level.

Agree on all points. Gonzaga has a bunch of athletes and are physically imposing (both height and weight). They just pounded the offensive boards. Gurdak (VA Tech) at 6-10 and 250 lbs is a handful. Dixon (NC) at 6-5 is so smooth with great 3 point range

The Cats did have a good showing playing on Gonzaga's home court and in front of a loud, boisterous student section (a la the Eagles Nest of St. Edward's). The 3rd quarter was the big difference when Gonzaga outscored the Cats 24-9.
Friery scored 21, Woidke and Jones with 8, Johnson with 7.

Next up tomorrow @ 3:15 - Chicago Lane Tech. They are currently 4-4, losing 3 close games, and go 6-10, 6-8, 6-7 on their front line

Impressive opponent for the wildcats. I used to love watching Ed’s play big time OOS opponents. Goes to show where the wildcats and eagles are right now. Have no clue what Flannery has been doing with that program. No longer playing Mater Dei, Campbell Hill with Jrue Holiday, etc. Tom Izzo from MSU coming to see Delvon Roe…

Good luck to the wildcats this year. After a rough football season, I’m sure it’s an enjoyable time of the year for you guys.

JOES wore you down for that game vs. Gonzaga.

Cats rebound with a 64-40 victory over Lane Tech. BTW, I don't know if anyone has mentioned this previously, but kudos to SIBN for making the trip to DC. I thought the camera work was superb. I guess there was money left over in SIBN budget after the cancellation of videocasting of football games.

At the half Cats lead DC Coolidge 48-44. Game is being played with a clock shot, and the way the teams are running up and down the court, it might be a 10 second clock. Friery has around 20 at the half. I haven't seen many Ignatius games, but Friery has seemed to have improved a lot since last year. Puts the ball on the floor with a lot of confidence. Way too good to be going to just Dayton. I noticed that there is a Mack on the Ignatius roster. Wonder if he's a descendent of Dave Mack who starred at Ignatius in the mid-60's.

Cats finish 83-67. Woidke had six 3's, and he and Friery both had 25+ (wish SIBN announcers would give individual scoring results). Cats with 2 out of 3 in the DC Classic and played very good ball in 5 of the 6 halves in three games. Once again the camera work was great and the refs had a good game.

Both had 27
Friery added 14 boards

Not a fan of the band playing the “SpongeBob SquarePants” theme.
If that's the biggest complaint anyone has about the season, then we can all be happy with how it ends.

Final:
Cats - 83
Garfield -68

Big game tomorrow against Reynoldsburg.

Woidke saw very limited action today. Announcers said he was nursing a bruised shoulder suffered in practice. Garfield definitely had problems dealing with the Ignatius press. Game was a rout. Final score was not an indication of how the Cats dominated. I have a new appreciation of a kid who comes off the Ignatius bench, Alec Mack. He's a gunner after my own heart. There's not a 3 that he won't attempt. He has no chance of setting any assist records, but I love the way he plays.

Depth of last year's team isn't there this year. Too much pressure on Friery/Woidke to score. Still a very good team capable of making a significant run. My comments are more to illustrate how elite last year's team was. Reynoldsburg was very athletic and put so much pressure on the rim, and it seemed like Cam didn't believe he could survive 1 minute of Friery on the bench. He appeared to be outta gas, understandably, in the second half. Should be a fun second half of the year with games vs Eds, Richmond Hts, Lue East/West. If you can get down to W. 30th, can't really beat a packed gym vs a good team at Sullivan.

I don't see Buchtel on there

Will game vs. ASVSM be good? My son scours the state for games for dad to take him to and saw this one coming up Tuesday, 12/31.

Looking forward to seeing the Griffins on Jan. 11. They beat Newark (who has beaten Richmond Heights and Pick Central). Looks like they had a good showing in the Tark Classic in Vegas. Should be a good game
Yee it should be a good game they both loss in Nevada was by 3 points I know it going to be a packed Gym I am also looking forward to this game.

Cats rebound from the Reynoldsburg dunk fest with a 96-69 win over McKinley. Would like to see what the FT% was for each team. Seemed Ignatius couldn't miss and McKinley couldn't hit.
