Southwest Ohio Division 1

With all teams playing on same night we obviously only get to see one game so I was wondering how some of the top seeds looked last night on opening night ? Anyone feel free for some insight on Mason, Creek, Lakota West and Springboro. I was at the Moeller game and was very surprised at how they played last night . It was a 2-1 win vs West Hi but there IMO no intensity , not aggressive and I thought a lot of guys standing around watching. I don't get it at this time a year but they almost seemed like they wasn't interested. Very disappointing and if that continues there will no run for Big Moe this year. I realize it is survive and advance but you would hope to be playing at a high level right now and that definitely was not the case last night. I wont get into more detail or opinions but if anyone else was at the game last night I would like to hear your opinion.
I was at the Mason game, and while they did not dominate Colerain on the scoreboard (4-0), it seemed like they were playing most of their seniors, who get few minutes in big games. Their center backs also finished the game up top I believe. My guess was to avoid injury to their starters and give those guys a final game at home. From what I heard, West struggled pretty hard against Hamilton as well, only winning 2-0.

Was shocked when I saw they won 2-1. I get it’s a tough game to get up for but no real excuse for it to be so close. I’m sure they’ll be stronger against Lebanon and win more convincingly.

Some shaky matchups yesterday it seems. Mason seemed to be the only Region 4 team to put the game away, with Moe not being able to score against a pretty bad defensive team in Lebanon until they received what I heard was a horrible overtime penalty kick handball call, and Beavercreek having to come from behind against east, and X barely edging out a 1-0 win vs little Miami. If any of you were at the games and they were not reflective of the score lines id be interested to hear what actually happened.

Nowhere near a horrible handball call, when the replays start to flow through social media you will see. It was an obvious call that had to be made.

Lebanon vs Moeller was pretty even in the first half with Lebanon having the more dangerous chances but the second half was a completely different story. Lebanon had the ball in Moellers half maybe 3 times. They parked the bus and had 10 guys behind the ball making it difficult for Moeller to score which is why the game was taken into OT but from a stats perspective the game was completely dominated by Moeller.

I agree on the Moeller game , it seems after the first 20 minutes and Moeller not scoring that Lebanon went into play for overtime mode. I understand any coach playing however they think they can win. As for the handball call from the angle I was at it looked obvious. I hate to see anybody lose in that situation. It could happen to anybody. I am a little worried about Moeller moving forward due to they are having trouble scoring early to keep teams from playing that style. If someone else gets an early goal against them its a problem because they are struggling to score against a packed in defense. The biggest thing to me is they are getting nothing off their corners this year. Seems like they just cant get that together. St X up next which they have beat twice but you know the story about beating someone 3 times in a season.

These fans with these "horrible call" takes always crack me up. Then you get the video and not only was it accurate, it took some guts for the referee to make that call in that situation of the game.

The question is does Lebanon get that call if the roles were reversed.
Does Lebanon get an obvious PK call if the roles were reversed? That's the hypothetical we're playing? Knowing the referee on the game, yes anyone that sticks their arm out to block a shot would get that call.

But the point made above was that it took some "guts" to make the call. Implying that there is some discretion as to whether the call is made. My opinion of our HS officials is obviously different than yours, because imo the refs I have seen would be influenced by making a call against a perennial powerhouse that costs them the game and their season vs. making the same call against a lower level team with little history. You are naive if you think that subconsciously an Ohio HS ref does not think about that. These are mediocre offials we are putting in these games, if they were high quality they would not be doing HS games.

ELKSONE, I think it will be interesting. Last year I think Moe won 1-0 in tournament but this year Beavercreek did beat them in a scrimmage 2-0 for what that is worth. The biggest concern for Moeller , other than Beavercreek is obviously playing great right now with the win over Mason, is injuries. While everyone has a lot of players banged up this time of year , it looks like Moeller will be without 3 defensive starters. One has been out the entire tourney, one was injured early in St X game and didn't return to game, another received 2 yellow cards in St X game. I think they will have a few players switching positions to fill these positions. Their depth will be tested but I think they have the confidence in the bench players to pick up the slack. Moeller has been struggling to score lately and I think an early goal would help their confidence level. Hope its a great game.

I'll think about my lack of quality when I'm doing Marshall vs Kentucky tonight.

when did the moeller player get the 2nd yellow? I must have missed it because i watched a replay and it seemed like they ended the game with all 11.

It seems like in the last minute. There was a collision between two players with about 30 seconds left . If I remember correctly they stopped the game because it appeared both players may be injured .

Moeller is very young this year too, in what was thought to be a rebuilding year. I regularly counted 9 underclassmen on the field at the same time this afternoon throughout the second half and OT. And, that’s with two of their best starting underclassmen not playing due to injury and a red card last week.

Also, prayers to the creek player and his family for what looks to be a significant lower leg injury. He went down in the second half with 21 mins to go and left in an ambulance. I’m sure it was tough for his teammates to rally together and play. Hopefully everything will be OK, he heals 100% and is kicking the ball around again soon.

Great win for Moeller with 3 defenders out. The guys coming off the bench earned their respect today. Great defensive effort . Third straight Final Four. Lets keep it going.

It's clear you don't know who I am, or you wouldn't post such nonsense lol.
Anonymous poster on yappi? No, I don't know who you are and you do not know who I am. It appears you are an Ohio HS ref so I am not sure that gives you much cred. Sounds like you are just another "I am god" ref who can't take criticism and thinks anyone who questions you is just some parent who doesn't know the game. I don't go on yappi much bc of this attitude. I've seen enough Ohio HS refs to know that the overall quality is seriously lacking. I have seen too many that may know the rules but think the game is about them, they take the game away from the players, have rabbit ears, and don't really know how to manage the game. I don't know you and you may be an excellent ref who doesn't have any of the flaws I mention above, but from what I have seen, you would be the exception.
