southwest district this year

X won't have a problem winning unless Moeller has some unexpected underclassmen that step up big. I don't know enough about centerville, or any other team for that matter, to know how good they will be.

I didn't follow the long course season that close to know the swimmers that improved and the ones that didn't. Did any of you follow any swimmers that caught your eye this summer?

Also, I got word the other day that Grant House switched from the Marlins to Countryside YMCA. I'm not quite sure as to why, considering it looked like swimming for the Marlins was benefiting him well (1:39 in the 200 free as a 8th grader), but there will be no doubt he will have enough mid distant freestylers to work with, (George, Westrick, Worobetz, Slabe). Should be something to keep an eye out for.

I'm excited for this upcoming season! It can't come soon enough.

I see Jacob Pelquin becoming a huge part of Moeller's team. As a sophomore I expect to see him scoring at state next year. I wouldn't be surprised to see Mitchell Frey having a big year either. The biggest break out swimmer in our district, I think, will be Jack German. He got second and fourth last year at districts and I think this year he will win the 50 and be within the top 3 in his other other event.

What time do you think he will swim? Did he swim at the state meet last year?

buckeye, there are rumors that tony kurth is out at st francis, if true that is tough news to have a third coach in 3 years, is it true? also any word on a potential replacement...also, can anyone verify the rumor of grant house heading to countryside?

Kurth out? Wow that would be something. He certainly was successful last year leading the Knights to the revamped Northwest District title and 4th place in the state. I think he was named coach of the year in the Northwest. Unless he chose to leave, hard to imagine that he would be dismissed.

Tony Kurth officially resigned last week as the head coach at St. Francis after the administration decided to make a change. I cannot get into the specifics for this action. The new coach is Brent Ransom, who most recently was an assistant coach at Xavier University. He has coached at St. Francis before, so he is very familiar with the program.

Jack German. I looked for his name last year in the 50, but I could not find him anywhere.

It may be listed as James German. I believe he got 11th in the 50 and 14th in the 100 back, but don't hold me to that. I also know he went a 46.0 anchoring countrysides 400 free relay at YMCA nationals last year so that's another event I see him breaking out in.

Sorry, I missed him-he got 10th with a 21.37. The 50 this year will be very fast, so he would have to improve a tremendous amount to win it. The top 5 from last year return, and my guess is that the winning time will be below 20.50 and maybe even real close to that magical 20 flat mark.

I agree 100%. I think the 50, 200 free, and 100 back are going to be abnormally fast at the state meet next year.

I think the 400 free relay will be a battle between St. X and Moeller. but I don't know who will be on those and splits

It will most likely be Carr, Frey, Slabe, and House for the beloved (soon to be state champs) Aquabombers and Hodge, Nymberg, George, and another swimmer for Moeller.

I wouldn't be so sure they're soon to be state champs. Based on splits from this past long course season, Nymberg and House's splits get canceled out, I know George was a 55.3 at Y Nats this summer and Hodge was around a 55.4 at a mid-season clipper meet that I was at. those three posted some good times this summer and I think it will be hard to contest

According to the results on the YMCA's website, George split a 53.41

There's no doubt in my mind George will be a 46 split in 400 free next year at state. He lead off with a 47.4 last year and based off his 100 on the relay at Ynats, I don't think he will have a problem doing that. For Hodge, I believe there is a huge difference swimming a 100 free at prelims at a sectional meet and swimming the 100 free on a relay at state finals. Cooper Hodge is one of the most talented swimmers in the state and he has been working hard on his sprint freestyle, there is no reason he can't step up big and swim a fast split.

As for the rumors concerning Grant House, I have heard from a reliable source that confirmed Grant's departure from the Marlins to Countryside. I'm shocked by the news, but think it could work out for him considering he will have plenty of talent to work with at Countryside.

No doubt TOG... Plenty of quality swimmers and families at Countryside... If Mr. House is there, he'll surely benefit from the experience.

I think the 500 could be a very interesting race this year if Grant House swims it. Last year, Kevin George was the only person who finished in the top 8 that wasn't a senior and i think he is the clear favorite to win, unless House swims it. Throw in the fact that they've been training together at that point and i think we could see a time around 4:25 or 4:26. I also think the 200 IM is going to be interesting at the state level between Hodge and Palazzo, possibly in the 1:47 range for both? any comments?

I agree with the House and George assessment, however I think Palazzo will win handily over Hodge, but I've been wrong before.

George, House, Westrick, Slabe, and Worobetz will all swim the 200 free and they will all be training with each other. I wouldn't doubt it if they all made the final heat at state this year. I also wouldn't doubt it if House, George, and maybe Westrick were 1:38 lows or 1:37 high next year either. I would keep a close eye on the mid distant events this year, it could be a competitive as last years

Don't the StX swimmers typically swim in? If so, doesn't that mean that House & Slabe will be training together but away from the others?

I don't think that swimming in is required at StX, but traditionally X's swimmers do. And why not? The coaching is superb, the practices as competitive as any club, and the convenience of practicing on site and right after school make it very attractive.
