Softball on turf!

Personally, I'm a fan. Now that the state championships are being played on turf, it is to the benefit of any high caliber team to get on the surface as soon as possible. For the other teams, turf can be the difference between playing and cancelling. The hops are true on turf field and the quality of play doesn't suffer.

Crushed brick does a nice job of keeping games playable but turf is better. Also, the crushed brick can cause really nasty scrapes on exposed skin for sliding and diving players in the infield.

More home runs and extra base hits. Alot of in the park home runs were cut down by soft ground and high grass, even a rope in the gap many times would result in a triple instead of a homer. I would think also the outfielders would be a little faster on turf. Now you'd also have to probalby play a step or two deeper as those hard hit balls in the gaps can easily get by.

There was a rumor (?) going around last spring that all regionals would be played on turf fields this season. Anyone heard that or any more on that?

Here in NW Ohio, we have a few fields - Clyde, Defiance, and Danbury all have it. Clyde just installed it for this season. While you wouldn't be able to host a tournament game there, Sports Force Parks in Sandusky is pretty much all turf.
