Pirates Cove VII (2012)

I'd rather watch AAAstros/Cubs over any AL game. The designated hitter is the worst rule in the history of sports
 
Remember Dontrelle Willis? His at bats were never boring. He had a towering HR in Houston last year made an out last year in Pittsburgh which was by far the hardest hit ball I've ever seen a pitcher hit. Also had that 3-3 game
 
Loved the JHay play. that's what you do when the catcher is blocking the plate. not a dirty play at all. hard nosed baseball. Molina just got the brunt of it.

wish they would've saved some hits and runs for tonight. we'll see if they can get the series.

i have a feeling Pedro will strikeout 4 times tonight.

we shall see.

believe me, part of me thinks that they still may not get 82 wins because they are capable, as we've seen, of going into a funk and not being able to figure a way out.

El Toro........wow. if he can simply play HALF as well as he has the last 2 games for the rest of the season, our offense will be ok.

get Walker and Marte healthy for the stretch run. Snider has been a pleasant surprise and JHay has played well in Walker's absence.

Still have zero hope that this team gets to 82 wins. Absolutely awful tonite. Strike out looking TWICE with bases loaded. Offense does nothing but strikeout 10 times to help Burnett, who was pretty awesome himself.

Unreal.
 
JMac completely blew any chance of not getting swept in MIL by walking the first batter of the game on 4 pitches. An error by Pedro and a one swing by Braun and it was 3-0 Brewers on one GD hit.

Not sure why JMac was still in there after giving up 6, but our bullpen obliged with 6 more as well.

Now I firmly believe that this team will not have a winning season. I'll downgrade my former prediction by one game:

They will come into the final Reds series with 79 wins, needing to win 2 of 3 just to have a NON-losing season, and they won't get it.

So frustrating and disappointing. Just a flat out lack of mental toughness and sense of urgency on this team.
 
This team is done. Sorry to say it. Don't know if it's fatigue or what, but whatever they had going for them from late May to the beginning of August is completely gone.

6 game set vs the Astros and Cubs. Let's see if they can go 5-1, then let's see where they are at the end of the week.

A win + Reds, Cards, and Dodgers losses. Probably hasn't happened since July. Somehow, this team is only 1.5 out of the wildcard. I don't think they get it, to be honest. The pitching has become too erratic.
 
I think they have to go 10-14 over their last 24 to go 82-80. That's starting to seem pretty difficult. At least it's an improvement over last year, but something needs to be done to stop these end of the season collapses.

Won't happen. 5-16 since that 19 inning game. Team has zero sense of urgency, zero mental toughness, a complete lack of anything resembling a team that actually has a chance to make the playoffs. They simply keep finding more ways to lose, more ways to f$&k up, more ways to just absolutely crumble.

This collapse will be more epic than last year. Brewers and Phillies will finish ahead of us.

Lucky if we even get 80 wins.

I used to like Hurdle. Starting to really question WTF he is thinking sometimes.
 
I don't think the Pirates are mediocre. I do think they were better off before they made the couple deadline deals they made, though.
 
I think most people knew they were Andrew McCutchen, A.J. Burnett, and Neil Walker + a bunch of guys playing over their heads + a couple guys not playing up to their ability. I was expecting a bit of a drop, but not from +16 to +2 in about a month and half.
