Coach Kotite has described AHIGA previously, it was simply a rallying cry for Northwest. Last Fall, I put together my list of Top Ten games at the old France Stadium, I had this one at #3. That season ended up being Koach's last year at the helm as coach and Principal.
3. Oct 18, 2019 vs. Northwest – You knew this one was coming – The AHIGA Donut Game. At that time, Manchester’s season was in a spiral with a 4-3 record, having lost to Tuslaw (4-6 record), Triway (6-4 record), and defeating Fairless (4-6 record) by only 7 points prior to this match-up. With NW, Orrville, and CVCA to close out the season, how could a team led by Ethan Wright and Hunter Foster possibly finish 4-6? Would this be Koach’s only losing season ever? This game became the ultimate in the Manchester Mystique (or as others call it, getting homered). This team had many sophomores in the trenches, and at QB as well, but what transpired starting that night was unreal. Northwest was confident they would blow out the Panthers, they had a midfield post-game flag planting ceremony all planned out. But not so fast my friend, Manchester dominated to the tune of a 39-0 victory, therefore the infamous AHIGA Donut Game. Manchester ended up defeating Orrville and CVCA and finally lost in the regional finals to some school named Kirtland. Some folks joke about Koach being named Coach of the Year in the state that year; I agree that there was an element of “lifetime achievement”, but how that team got turned around in week 8 comes back to his credit.
