You shouldn't have to pay to be ranked. That is absurd... every team should be included if they were actual rankings.
 
Is the coaches' association poll in baseball like a "funnel" where each local association has a poll, and then the local associations put up a certain number of teams eligible for state ranking. That's how it works in soccer. I know teams have to be members of the local/state association to be eligible for ranking in soccer (which is evidently the case in baseball as well).
 
Hoban was ranked in the OHSBCA Week 1 poll, so them being absent from the Preseason poll must not have been due to membership.

No, this is a simple state poll voted on by coaches. Coaches can "nominate" themselves, or provide updated records, with who they've beaten, etc. if they wish to give context to their record.
 
You don't have to be a member to have your team ranked....but the coach has to be a member to vote. He also has to be a member to nominate his players for end of the season OHSBCA awards....and attend the coaches clinic in Columbus over the winter. Can't imagine why a coach wouldn't be a member
