Ohio State Recruiting

Clemson is currently reeling in some Ohio type players that would never see the field at OSU but the problem is under NO circumstances should these kids be going down to podunk Clemson SC over other Big Ten schools

Actually Clemson is a rather attractive place for recruits. Beautiful campus, great facilities, relatively mild winters, and a rabid fan base that makes for an electric game day experience. That and in many ways Upstate South Carolina is more urban, sophisticated, and progressive than the Midwest. I realize Dabo is an odd duck, but he has created a consistent top ten program with two national championships so that has to be appealing to a recruit over Champaign-Urbana, Dekalb, or East Lansing. The disadvantage Clemson is facing is staying competitive in terms of NIL and revenue sharing.

Every single college has some level of attractiveness. The fact is the rest of the Big Ten cannot be letting these kids get away especially to schools like Clemson

I get your point but do the other midwest schools aside from Michigan and Notre Dame really have a commitment to be championship contenders? Would they rather recruit in their own states, win 6 or 7 games, and just collect their tv revenue sharing checks? I guess I am worrying that the changes in CFB are eventually going to lead to a super conference of 24 or 32 schools (NFL Lite?) with every body else left out. I would find that sad from a fan standpoint and lessen scholarship opportunities for deserving athletes.

Wasn't Indiana through Nil/TP in the CFP last year. I suppose PSU not Midwest, but Illini and Indiana are ranked 13th and 17th respectively in ESPN's early top 25 for next season. BIG schools have the NIL money to compete, and IMO will.

How many midwest teams were competitive before NIL/Transfer? Before scholarship restrictions it was the Big 2 and the little 8. When the big 10 went to two divisions the west division was a joke. Notre Dame, Ohio State and Michigan has always been the big dogs in the Midwest. That has never changed.

Recruiting really isn't going too well right now. Just got some 3 * from Arizona. OSU isn't recruiting at a national title winning level right now and that 2021 class they just won off of is long gone.

Ohio State wouldn't have won the natty if it wasn't for the transfer portal. Going forward it looks like a combination of recruiting and the transfer portal is the way to go for team building in the future.

💯 Without a doubt. This is the new norm.

Yes but OSU attained massive quality from the portal and not quantity. The majority of their roster was comprised of recruits out of high school

OSU needed both to win the Natty. If OSU has the money, they can cover any weakness through the portal. It is easier to evaluate players with college experience over high school players.

National title winning players aren’t always available in the portal. When they are other teams are getting them more often than OSU

yes please to this one. Need another 330 lb defensive tackle as well. Only having Kayden won't cut it
You know how many 330 lb. DT's there are that can play high level D1 football very few. Some NFL teams don't have quality 330 lb tackles they are very difficult to come by. Be great if OSU could just pick who they want but it doesn't work that way.
