Ohio State Football 2024

Is that why they pay him 2.2 million or is it because he typically has a top 10 defense every year.

What defensive scheme would you run?
I don’t know why they pay him so much, blame that on Ryan Day/former AD Gene Smith.

I do like the nickel but I would be mixing in more 5-2 on early downs with much more pressure and press coverage.

You may see some vs. Iowa. You gain more support to stuff the run with an extra lineman, but it leaves you vulnerable to the pass. Different opponents call for different schemes. You would not want to play a 5/2 or even a shade fifty vs a team like Oregon.

It leaves your secondary on islands sure but I WANT this secondary put in tough spots considering we have NFL players at every position. I have no doubt they can hold up in 1 or 0 coverage a lot of times. They need to be featured because right now they are not making any plays due to the soft passive scheme.

Secondary has been fine and making plays in the 4-2-5 so far.

Downs had 6 tackles last week

Ransom 8 tackles the previous week.

Igbinosin gave up 1 big play then was fine

Burke had a pick last week.

Making plays in the pass game to be specific. (Deflections, interceptions)

Burke pick came after OSU started being more aggressive (hallelujah). Need to be running a scheme like like 80% of the game

"Weak" point in OSU's defense this year and last year has been linebacker play. Trouble covering the TE and coming up to stop the run. Part of it IMO is the 5 DB look hard to stop the run with 5 DB's or is it the linebacker coaching. We will we find out against Iowa how good or bad the OSU run defense is. But yes with 5 DB's on the field your safety's better to be able to tackle, big reason OSU went and got Downs.

That is the new defense. Styles is having difficulty adjusting. Knowles style is what it is. National Title makes it all go away. I'm not a fan of Knowles defense. But, I hope he proves me wrong. I'll gladly eat crow.

If you watched the film, tOSU was in soft zone to start the game thinking probably a 19 year old QB wh had three picks the week before wouldn’t be able to make accurate throws in a long drive. Well they proved that strategy wrong. Last actual drive for Sparty in the first half tOSU went press man and shut Sparty completely down for the rest of the game. Should he have went to it sooner? Probably, but the end result was fine. I also don’t know where the narrative is the the Bucks can’t stop the run, the Bucks gave up 47, 28, 125 and 47

Ok let’s move on to this week instead of arguing with podcaster about a 38-7 win

Buckeyes are a 19.5 point favorite. Kinda surprised that it is that low. I hammered that line. O/U is 45. (Vegas thinks it will be around 32-13). My numbers say 42-7. Stop the run on first and second down and this is a cake walk. Allow Iowa to sustain drives and the Hawkeyes could make it uncomfortable through halftime

Good discussion about defensive strategy vs. Iowa. I agree we need to be in 7 man fronts a lot more often, and especially vs. Iowa. They have the #2 rusher in the nation (Johnson) so they obviously are running it well.

I'd say we likely run a 4-3 instead of 5-2 though. I would like to see a lot of Arvell Reese along with Simon and Styles this week. Shut down that run on 1st and 2nd down and if they try to throw it, let them, and count on those NFL quality DBs.

I am surprised it is that high. Iowa has a very good running game (shortens the game) and a very good defensive coordinator. If OSU scores 40 plus on Iowa it will be because of Iowa turnovers. If the Bucks score 40 or more on Iowa's defense, nobody is going to stop OSU's offense. I think Vegas has it about right, maybe OSU by 14 - 20 pts.

I believe Tyleik will immediately impact the run game, and help to neutralize the designed QB run. Although I doubt they'll have to worry about that threat this week. I also want to see more of Arvell, and believe Simon can't come off the field. Sonny almost seems to be a Harold Perkins type unicorn. He's an athletic freak, but can't seem to fit the scheme - and can actually be a detriment if deployed incorrectly. Same for Hicks in some ways. As far as the DB's are concerned, I think Knowles will always be inconsistent with running press coverage. Even in his media availability this week, he deferred back to being "solid on explosive plays" when pressed on playing off coverage.

If the Buckeyes only win by 14 the podcaster will be on here saying to fire Day and bring in Mark Stoops 😂. The funny part of that theory of his is that he is always complaining how conservative Day coaches in big games. Mark Stoops punted on the UGA 45 on 4th and 6 with 3 minutes to go while trailing.

If true, which I believe it is, Johnson is spot on. Larry has coached some dudes and worked for some legit DCs.

OSU has two of the top DEs in the country F-ing around playing read and react at the LOS with OTs. Total waste of their skill set.

Something is off. Imo Johnson is a hell of a coach. Way to many d-lineman playing in the NFL from Ohio State. I'm a fan, so I don't know particular.

I'm wonder how Knowles and Johnson work together.

Oh it is possible, but I expect Iowa to make it a four quarter game against State, falling short in a slobberknocker, 27-19. Mr. Parker's defense will give the Buckeyes their first real test in 2024.
So are you wagering a large sum of money taking Iowa and the points?

Or are you just posting this for a reaction?

Given my past problems with gambling, I stay away from wagers. As to eliciting a reaction? Maybe, maybe not. Ohio State has a collection of talent second to no one in 2024. Yet based on what I have seen to this point, I am not convinced the Bucks can win a national championship let alone the Big 10. They just have not been tested to date to know if 2024 will be different from the last three seasons. That said, Iowa will challenge Ohio State physically on both lines of scrimmage. A test OSU need to survive if they are to challenge for national honors.

Have to remember now as well the new clock rules pretty much mirror the NFL. It's very easy to run 5-6 minutes off the clock with a good drive nowadays
