Ohio Heritage Conference 2024

projected playoff matchups for OHC teams:

D5 R20
#2 Greeneview vs #15 Graham
#3 West Liberty Salem vs #14 Arcanum

#12 Fairbanks @ #5 Grove City Christian
#13 Mechanicsburg @ #4 Fort Frye

D6 R24
#8 Northeastern vs #9 Madison-Plains

D7 R28
#15 Southeastern @ #2 Cincinnati College Prep

I retract my statement about Burg not having a chance against Fort Frye… although I am worried about Burg being able to stop Fort Frye run game I do think Burg will be able to score points. Was able to catch a bit of a livestream from weeks back, Fort Frye really didn’t seem any bigger than Burg and had almost the same amount of players

Kind of surprised by the number of R24 teams that are to the east or southeast of Chillicothe.

Some of the choices made in splitting R23 and R24 for this cycle are kind of curious IMO. Going to be several very long trips in week 11.

MP seems to have taken care of business without him. but i’d agree with your projection.
Looking at box scores, I’m not sure MP can keep up. However, they did return two key two way lineman that have been out since WLS. But unless NE would beat themself, I’m not sure MP has the offensive fire power to win. It’s 100% the Stoughton show left, right and any other way the coach can use him. A good coach / scheme stops that.

i think NE by 3 scores is a fair prediction if this matchup happens.

Each and every week Fairbanks continues to surprise me. They just keep scoring haha 69 points vs West Jeff. The new coaches are doing a really good job spreading the ball around and getting the ball to their playmakers in space. R. Green def is their guy but they have enough other pieces on offense to keep a defense honest.
Defensively they play a lot of man coverage and get beat a lot ... but high school quarterbacks are not able to make a lot of these throws to hurt them. Their run defense has been solid all year but no team has stuck with the run all game long and made it a physical game for 4 quarters. I will be curious if WLS sticks with the run, controls clock, and keeps the Fairbanks offense on the sideline.

Do the Panthers have one more OHC win in them...on the road for a ship!

Looking more likely MP and NE meet in the first round and the winner of that has a date with the obviously cheating Coldwater Cavaliers!

WLS is actually fairly balanced. The only game that they really stuck solely to the run was Northeatern, but I think that was more weather related. I can certainly see them being run heavy this week to control the clock.

I'm curious how the WLS defense will do against Green (for sure the best back they've faced all year). The run defense has been tough all year except for a few games. Here is what they've given up to each team's leading "running back" on the season. *Weeks 2-4 were without our best defensive player.

Week 1: Hoke (Graham) - 19 yards (season low) | Graham rushed 14 times for 0 yards
Week 2: Pender (Ben Logan) - 77 yards (3rd highest) | Ben Logan rushed 28 times for 191 yards
Week 3: Walker (Greeneview) - 53 yards (4th lowest) | Greeneview rushed 36 times for 277 yards
Week 4: Goodbar (Southeastern) - 14 yards (2nd lowest) | Southeastern rushed 27 times for 83 yards
Week 5: Stoughton (Madison Plains) - 34 yards (3rd lowest) | Madison Plains rushed 22 times for 54 yards
Week 6: Jones (Northeastern) - 38 yards (2nd lowest) | Northeastern rushed 24 times for 79 yards
Week 7: Reeve (West Jefferson) - -4 yards (season low) | West Jefferson rushed 8 times for -12 yards
Week 8: Thomas (Mechanicsburg) - 31 yards (3rd lowest) | Mechanicsburg rushed 21 times for 89 yards
Week 9: Mitchell (Triad) - 84 yards (season high yards and carries) | Triad rushed 31 times for 85 yards

I believe this is going to be the league's top rushing attack versus the league's top rushing defense. It's going to be a fun one!

How good/fast are those 3 receivers (Bahan, Evans, Oder) for West Lib?

They will get lots of man single coverage...if they can get loose for a few big plays that could make Panthers adjust their coverage which could open up the run game.
If they can't...Panthers will have 8 in the box all game.

Bahan and Evans are both as good as advertised. That's arguably the best receiving duo the school has ever had. I've seen maybe one receiver better than Bahan at WLS (Burden in 2020). Now with that said, I don't think they've faced a super solid secondary. I would expect Fairbanks will have one of the better secondaries that they've had to go against.

A West Jeff upset is about the only thing that could spoil that. I don't think (especially after last year and with a playoff berth on the line), West Jeff is throwing in the towel against Northeastern this week.

NE @ WJ this week.
Trap game for WJ? LOL!
WJ wins and they are in, but can they win?
I don’t think they can win this year.
This senior class won 1 game as 8th graders and are a small class and as a team (real young and real injured).
Lost another kid last week Friday night.
Hope for the best!
Last 3-7 season for the riders, 2003.

Triad @ Mechanicsburg - Good tune up game for Burg before they hit the road for the playoffs, Burg scores early and big, starters out by the start of 2nd half. Burg wins 55-12

Northeastern @ West Jeff - The jets have had trouble on defense and West Jeff likes to throw the ball, but I think Northeastern is just a little bit more talented and they win a close one. Jets 35-28

Fairbanks @ West Liberty - Game of the year in the OHC, will the Tigers be able to stop Ryker Green? Will the Panthers defense create enough stops to allow their offense opportunities to score? West Lib has probably the best home field advantage in the OHC. Tigers win 42-38

Madison Plains @ CC - Golden Eagles are riding high into week 10, probably the most improved team in the OHC this year. MP wins 27-6

Greenon @ Southeastern - SE needs this win to secure a playoff berth and if they do it will most likely come at the cost of facing Minster or Marion Local 1st round, Greenon coming off a big win over rival CC they will have some confidence. Greenon in a close one 21-14

Greeneview @ Cedarville - Underwhelming year so far for the Indians, big rivalry game but Greeneview is on another level this year. Rams get their starters some rest. Rams win 41-0

That does raise an interesting discussion since only about 4 of us are wanting to talk football here in week 10…

What are your top 3 (to watch, not necessarily your school) best OHC football

1) Fields/Stadiums
2) Environments
3) Friday night traditions/entrances/etc

1. Stadium, would go with Madison-Plains. It is a nice view being surrounded by nothing but farm land on every side, not a building or town in sight. Northeastern is also nice having a great view of I70.

2. Environment, West Jeff or Greeneview. I remember arriving at West Jeff at 5:45 before the game and there were lots of fans in the vicinity of the complex. Greeneview has a stadium with an “in-town” feel and is usually packed. I would say Jamestown is one of those towns that shuts down for football games.

3. Entrance would have to be Mechanicsburg. The walk down the hill is intimidating!

Overall, I would say the OHC has some great stadiums that are each unique in its own way. Some great “in town” stadiums. I haven’t been to one I disliked. I have my gripes about some of them.

1. West Liberty- Both MP and West Lib have very beautiful views. Especially with the cornfields and there are some very nice sunsets depending on when you play at these places. West Lib just brings more of a hostile environment feel to it, not to mention West Lib student sections.

2. Greeneview- Besides WLS they have the best fans in the OHC, every time Burg plays at Greeneview it’s a hostile environment

3. Burg- Seems like the Burg crowds just aren’t as loud/large as they were, but best entrance has still has to go to Burg, always get goosebumps hearing the Alma mater, then Enter Sandman, touch the rock and watching them come down the hill.

You really need to get back to a WLS game. It’s a great week to do so!

Stadium wise I do like Madison Plains and West Liberty-Salem.

The WJ environment from 2006 until around 2014 was incredible. Stands completely packed. Student section all the way to the top of the stands and the fence row was 3-5 people deep. The front of the school in the grass, every parking spot, and the back soccer fields would be filled with cars. Those were great environments!

Entrance I guess burgs if I had to pick.

Yeah, I was actually a little disappointed in the environment at WJ my last 2 trips. I always remembered it being electric and packed there.

You may be right. I have not been since maybe 2018 for a middle school game. I have a game picked out closer to home Friday, but if WLS hosts an intriguing playoff game, I would consider attending.

if we are talking best single game environment I have been to, that would be Greenon vs Shawnee in 2019. That was standing room only. I arrived over an hour early and hardly found a parking spot.

Have been to some pretty impressive playoff games.

Alex Horney had 167 yards rushing on 12 carries....
