That's where I think Lex will have the edge over Sandusky. Minutemen will be more battle tested than Streaks
With the start of high school tournament play less than two weeks away, Mansfield Senior (14-7) seems to be peaking at the right time, with wins over Mansfield Madison, Columbus Eastmoor, Ashland and Trotwood-Madison and a close loss to Sandusky.
There is very little separation among the Tygers, Sandusky, Lexington and Shelby. and any one of those four teams can win the treacherous Ashland district.
The Tygers’ recent stretch of good play has come despite the fact that their leading rebounder and second-leading scorer, 6-5 forward Elias Owens, an Eastern Michigan University football offeree, has been out with a shoulder injury.
Stepping up has been the Tygers’ junior football quarterback Duke Reese, and freshman guard Rashad Reed, Jr., whose father was a member of some outstanding Tyger teams in the early 2000s under coach Gregg Collins and who later was a starter at Indiana State.
Tuesday night’s game between Lexington and Shelby and Friday’s game between the Minutemen and the Tygers make for a fun week of high school basketball in Richland County.
