Oak Hills votes for masking to be optional

It's not very hard to see the correlation that the flu essentially vanished because more people did what they always should have done: washed their hands, avoided crowds in winter, worked from home, etc. People wearing masks probably helped with that, too.

Going forward, it probably wouldn't be the worst idea to wear a mask when traveling via airplane or public transportation during "flu season" not because politicians or experts tell you to do it, but because what person wants to get sick?
That and most flu cases were wrongly labeled Covid because the tests couldn't really tell the difference.

It disappeared, also, where masking and other NPIs weren't in place.

Southern states are going "all gas no brakes" as the kids say over masks in schools. In Florida, their state BOE ruled students can transfer over mask rules. https://www.abcactionnews.com/news/...to-consider-mask-mandate-ban-enforcement-rule In Arkansas, a bill introduced in their state senate would allow something similar.

I wouldn't be surprised to see more states follow Florida to grant vouchers to students who are bullied in their current school. It's already a criterion in the OHSAA's transfer rules to allow a student to compete all season so it wouldn't come entirely out of nowhere.

School choice is gaining steam in many states.

School choice is great. However vouchers and charter schools have been a disaster in Ohio. They have ruined many good schools and students test worse on state tests in those schools than the failing districts/schools they came from.

Not sure what the answer is, but I think open enrollment is a great start that many districts are already doing.

You can voice your opinion to the Archdiocese here.

Their hearing works better if you make generous use of that giving/stewardship number first.

Seems the Mask Requirement for AoC Schools is different from School to School. What level input does the AoC have on the Mask policy?

There is a peaceful protest at Lourdes at noon on Sunday followed by a meeting at the Church.
Instead of doing this, why don’t they just say “we’re not paying tuition or coming to school until you give us the power to decide”. And then follow through - the mandate at Lourdes would be gone by Monday.

All this is is a power play - and the people always have the power, they just don’t realize it. Westsiders love being obedient and following rules. Tell them to pound salt, they only have “fake” authority over you. It’s not real, you can do what you want.

It's not a West Side thing. Same thing is happening all across Ohio.

But why are people listening? School boards have zero control over these people. They’re not a legal organization that can impart punishment. Just refuse to send your kid to school, especially the tuition based ones. They’ll change real quick.

The masses always hold the power, they just don’t realize it.

Don't pay tuition, then your child gets kicked out of school for non-payment. How does that fix anything??
If everyone galvanizes this way, yes, they will have no choice.

Obviously it doesn’t work very well if you just do it by yourself. A lot of obvious things aren’t very obvious here.

If nobody pays tuition, bills don't get paid, school closes down. I get what you are saying but that just isn't the reality.

When you register for a private school, you agree to pay tuition and that the school can do pretty much anything it wants.

With all the consolidations inevitably coming, don't think for a second that some (probably most) of these pastors wouldn't think twice about shuttering a school to make their lives easier.

That’s fine, but are you willing to stand tall for what you believe in or not? You get what you put up with.

You don’t forfeit your rights just because you pay tuition. If you’re willing to protest, but not take the next step, what’s the point?

You feel good about your protest, but you’re wearing masks all year. Man, that accomplished a lot.

You do forfeit your rights just because you pay tuition. That is the point. There is language in everyone's registration paperwork that says so in one way or another. You give the school full control over how to best educate your child. Don't like it, go elsewhere.

So yes, you have options to go elsewhere.

How far are you willing to go to stand up for what you believe? Apparently not very far.

So go right ahead and don't pay your tuition and let me know how that works out for you.

The fact of the matter is the Catholic Church, the Archdiocese, nor parishes actually care in any way about "the flock." If nobody paid any tuition, they would close all schools and move on because it's one less thing to worry about and have been a huge liability for the Church.

Please understand, the Church seriously couldn't care less about anything they claim to.

Again, if everyone was on the same page and threatened that, the mask mandate would be gone by Monday.

You think Lourdes would just say “ok, no school this year”. Doubtful.

But everyone has to be obedient to the big bad pastor. Again, how far are you willing to go to stand up for what you believe in? Apparently not that far.

If you’re not willing to go this far, the protest is meaningless.

So what are you "standing up" to exactly?
Hey, I know I agreed and signed this legally binding contract that literally gave up my constitutional rights, but now I don't like it, so change it. Did I get that right?

Stand up, go ahead, but you literally do not have a leg to stand on. You signed that agreement willingly.

I'm with trey on this one. Talk is cheap and that's all a protest is. If you want material change, you need to see some action.

Easy to say, much harder to do.

Little Sally is an incoming 8th grader. Spent 7 years with the same group and is very comfortable at Lourdes. Now you are telling her to just transfer to Visi bc they aren’t mandating masks? While Visi is very welcoming and open, Sally will still probably feel like an outsider. Tuition has already been paid to Lourdes. Soccer teams have already been picked. She has no close friends at Visi. Parents can’t get her to Visi as easily bc buses don’t run near Lourdes so carpooling is the only option but mom and dad work all day. Very stressful.

Easy to say, hard to do.

Never said it was easy. As I said, how far are you willing to go to stand up for what you believe in?
