NBC's Lester Holt says we don’t need to hear both sides to define truth: ‘Fairness is overrated’

Way to gloss over how certain people claim opinions as “facts.”
I'm not arguing the difference between facts and opinions. Holt is not arguing that either. There are things that are established fact like the sun sets in the West. Those that try to undermine that do not need fairness in reporting or platform.

I've not seen anyone dispute the sun setting in the West.

So you agree with Holt.
CHS beat you to the news report and your entire post, being a different side of the story, should be deleted because there was no reason for you to post something different than the "facts" CHS posted first.
I am not sure what you are saying. CHS posted that the cause of death was cardiac arrest. That is not true. It was cardiopulmonary arrest which is different. He then went on to say the the manner of death never mentioned homicide. I then responded letting him know that the coroner findings for manner of death was found in a separate document they released. He then called me a liar in post #238.

I then posted the coroner report on manner of death which clearly said it was homicide. His lies do not deserve equal time. As an aside, I believe his strategy to save face is to claim that he never said homicide was not part of the coroners report but he was just arguing where it could be found. It is kind of like posting a link arguing the earth is not around after saying the world is flat. It is what fraudulent losers do.

Flat earth was the more original concept.
So we should never have gotten any other news about any other shape?
Why do you want to suppress free speech?
I don't want to suppress free speech. People can say the earth is flat. All I am saying is since we know that is not true, those idiots do not deserve fairness in platform. If they get it, fine with me. They just don't deserve it.

I am not on board with one sided reporting. I am on board with not guaranteeing flat earthers the same access to platforms. If somebody wants to give them access, I am fine with it but they don't deserve it. They have no right to it. Media should not be be expected to offer it.
Again, who decides who doesnt deserve to be heard?

The difference is what some ppl view as facts. Like “trans woman are women” is not a fact imo, yet try saying that on Twitter w/o getting mobbed.

I don't care what kooks think. It is not true.
Bigot.

OK, that's not really fair. You are just ignorant.

I was trying to point out that the concept of cardinal directions has never been universal to all human cultures.

But maybe you believe that anyone who does not think like your country club buddies is a "kook," which would make you a bigot.

It’s ironic that Lester Holt used the analogy of “the sun setting in the West” to make his case.

500 years ago we were certain the Earth was flat and anyone who said otherwise was dismissed as a heretic. A couple thousand years ago, the widespread belief of “science” was that the Sun revolves around the Earth.

The “trust science” group seems to think science is “settled” which goes entirely against scientific theory itself. There’s a lot we as Humans still do not understand and much of what we think we know will eventually be proven wrong.

I believe in science, which is exactly why I will always question scientists.

I don't subscribe to the KellyAnne theory on alternative facts. Try not to get swamped in the minutia. Holt used the example of where the sun sets. I doubt he was describing where there is legitimate debate. If he was, he would not have used that example.

We are in 2021. The direction of the setting sun is accepted fact with exception of the insane people.

The problem is that Lester Holt would stop a Republican from saying that the Earth is round if the Democrats believed it was flat.

Lester Holt is saying exactly what he believes. His opinions on subjects are right and those that disagree with him are wrong. That man should not be in the news delivery business.

It's like the liberal snobbery regarding peak oil ...............we were going to run out a decade or two ago, when IN FACT we have more now than we did then, despite using billions of barrels in between.

Lester and the other media shills can kiss my arse. They have single-handedly destroyed their own profession - congrats.

Don't forget about the ice caps disappearing

Lester Holt was offering his opinion while accepting an award for his outstanding work. When you form an opinion, by default, you feel it is correct and the one counter to it is incorrect. He should not be fired for offering the opinion. He reads the news that his network decides should be read and his opinion of what he reads does not come into play.

No. I think people who think the earth is flat, that Sandy Hook was a hoax, that Hillary ran a child porn ring in a pizza shop, and that the Capital rioters went there to hug and kiss police, are kooked out nut jobs who do not deserve a platform even if they can fine some other idiot to give them one. That is drastically different than normal thinking and functional humans who have a different political or social perspective. I also think you are one of the former so you are not capable of distinguishing between the two.

To suggest the earth is round or flat means you believe space is 3-dimensional, which some pretty smart scientists now believe is not the case. As of today, I think the vast majority of people believe in 3-dimensions.

In 100 years, maybe a 4th dimension widely accepted.

What happened to liberals being open-minded? Seems to me these “settled science” people are the most closed-minded people on this planet.
