NBA thread

Carlik Jones played at Cincinnati Aiken and just had a triple-double against Team USA for South Sudan.

South Sudan does have a big kid that will be at Duke next year and a high lottery pick in the 2025 draft, but otherwise this was a team of G League and foreign pro league guys with very little NBA experience…and they should have beaten an American team loaded with all-star and all-NBA players and guys that have played major roles on NBA championship teams.

Ok, we survived the Olympics with Embiid not getting hurt. I think for this upcoming season to be the most effective, we need to really manager his minutes to keep him fresh as long as possible into the season. He doesn't need to worry about the MVP, he's go one of those and everyone knows he's a dominant player. So I'd plan on playing him no more than 30 minutes a nite, but closer to 25. Picking up Andre Drummond should help that as he can pick up the slack. I'd also steer away from back to backs, aiming for 45-60 games during the season. There may be nights you just play him 20 minutes on less depending on how the game is going. With the pickups, we should be able to compete and win some games without him. Before it was like he about had to play for us to win. If this team can keep him healthy, and the others play to their level, there is not reason we can't be right there with the Celtics in the east.

Are you the 6ers coach?

Embiid is super talented but sorry, he will never be a champion. The Olympics showed that he does not possess the drive and backbone to lead a championship team. He likes scoring and piling up stats, but you never see the effort and determination that you saw from LBJ, Steph, Booker, Durant, AD, etc. Those guys played hard and wanted to win at all costs. Embiid wasn't even blocking out; gave up a ton of offensive rebounds, and doesn't care to play defense. Not my kind of player.

Um....In the semi final, Embiid carried the US in the 4th quarter, during the critical moments of the game. Wipe away all the dancing and side show stuff with Jo, he's 7 ft. tall and has nearly all the offensive moves you could dream of. When he's healthy, he's the best player in the league, and he's much better on defense than you give him credit for. He's had foot problems since college like alot of bigs have had over the years.
To your point, he may not have to LEAD the team to the title, I think Maxey, the acquisition of Paul George and the others we have makes Embiid's need to carry the team much less. And this is likely it for him. I'd say he's got 2-3 more years of elite performance, if that.
Booker/ Durrant?

Embiid’s primary contribution to this gold medal was trolling opposing players and fans while giving the crotch chop suck it motion at them lol.

Just has to comment on the farce in LA with the Bron/ Bronny show. What an absolute joke the Lakers and the NBA has become. We all know the NBA is a players run league. No one above the players have any control or authority, and it's really sad. As great as LeBron is and has been as a player, this is simply wrong. To use your stature to force a spot on the team for your kid, when he clearly isn't an NBA caliber player is sad. It's these things that make LeBron's career look less than it should. And it's bad enough that LeBron forces this on his team, but most of the media are so scared to say anything against him that they just fall in line.
And what does LeBron do when he and his boy are on the floor for the first time, he jacks up a 3 one pass into the offense....he couldn't even let the moment be for his son, who he manufactured this playing time for. He's not the GOAT and never will be.

A guy sues the clippers for being fired from a job he admits was to illegally recruit Kawhi Leonard? Do I have that summed up right?

Now that LeBron and Bronny have had their moment (and will likely have one more when they play here in Cleveland in a couple weeks), Bronny will be off to the G League, likely for most of the rest of the season. He's realistically no more than the 12th man on the roster in LA right now and that's generous.

Simply put, if he wasn't LeBron's son, he would be a reserve player at USC. NBA's credibility is lacking.

The Lakers are off to a hot start. The first 3 games are very impressive.
Yes, it has. And as much as the world likes to make of LeBron, he's not even the best player on his team. Anthony Davis is playing, and playing well. He's been the rock for that franchise the last two seasons. LeBron did go on a heater the other night, but becoming more an more of a role player as time goes on. And that's not a slight. The more he allows others to grow, the better the Lakers will be. I think JJ Redick has been a good hire for them. He has instant credibility and he's always been a gym rat.

At nearly 40 years old, being a key role player is still impressive.

Oh absolutely, LeBron really felt his age last night, scoring only 11 points on 3/14 shooting, he did have 5 rebounds and 8 assists, but in 35 minutes with the ball in his hands as much as it is, that's about par.

I've often said the most impressive thing about LeBron, aside from the points and titles is his longevity. We've not had a superstar stay at that level as long as he has. It's a credit to him taking care of his body, what ever means possible. Think about Larry Bird/ Michael Jordan both broken down by 35 and just hanging on. In small doses, we see the LeBron from 10-15 years ago at times.

Tuned in to see Edey and got the Luke Kennard show. Morant not playing so the NBA being reminded Kennard was a pretty darn good PG. Edey has no idea what to do on the court. He's lost. He's also 7'4" quick and first play against the 7'1" #2 French guy draft pick was to block him.

Edey already a meme. I know he was a hockey player but he might want to be careful who he does that to,lol.

Why are the same players constantly "injured"? Durant, Embid, Williamson? We know that Williamson couldn't care less about playing basketball and getting into playing shape, but with the others: is it bad luck, or are they just coasting and looking for excuses not to play? They are constantly on the injury list and play so few games; certainly not enough to justify their salaries.

I don't put Durant in the same category as Embiid and Williamson. Durant has had a nice lengthy career and he's simply breaking down as normal humans not named LeBron do. Embiid was injured at Kansas, and it's never stopped. Big guys and foot problems never end well. Williamson simplay can't stay healthy and his game is predicated power basketball. My guess is Williamson will go to a team where he can be a pieced, 15-20 minutes per game, possibly 2nd unit guy. Embiid probably has only a couple years left and he'll never be a full time significant player. It's too bad but like some guys in the past, Bill Walton/ Sam Bowie/ it's just not possible for guys who are hurt to build up to get better.

Speaking of my Sixers, it's been a rough start and likely going to get worse before better. At least Embiid is back, now we need Maxey back but at full strength. The clear goal of this team is to get to April and be eligible for the playoffs. They can only hope to get a 6-10 seed, with those 3 and the others they have somehow make a significant playoff run. Many scoff at this but Embiid has NEVER played close to a full season and been healthy for the playoffs. So this is really the only option. Now you give me those three at pretty much full strength in April and they make the playoffs, I'd give them a chance against just about anyone.

Memphis - Portland, Edey - Clingan, Clingon struck me arrogant with Conn but all-class when asked about the rematch with Edey, calling out the crap thrown Edey's way, he wasn't league material.

Hard to know how good either is going to be with all the super-mobile talls coming in and both get pushed around by the other extreme, the massive big guys. They're both kind of tweeners. Edey has a bad temper and it's kind of coming out. Don't need an Edeybeer.

Memphis@ the Bronsters tonight but late. Doubt I'll be able to get any game in.

My only other interest is the Bucks, they have Toledo's Rollins. The Bucks are not a fun team to watch.

The Lakers won again as Lebron had his 3rd straight triple double. A record at his age. He scored 35 points as well.
Lebron still seems pretty good. Funny, some people think he is a role player. I guess totally dominating a game is a role.

Embiid is like Williamson - extremely talented, but fat, lazy and not a winner. They just want paid.

Durant cannot be lumped in with these two.

Memphis starts badly against a Jokicless Denver without Edey in the lineup. He checks in and immediately hits a three, gets a block, then a steal. He might be okay at this level.

The Sixers won two games in a row for the first time this season. Granted it was against the Hornets last night. But it appears that Paul George and Maxey are back. If this team can somehow stay healthy and then get Embiid back in February / March they may be able to make some noise. Now that's a tall order as this team has not stayed healthy for more than a few games.

They are better without Embiid. He is fat, lazy, and a cancer. Maxey recently yelled at him in a meeting to stop being late for team functions.

Embiid is immense, and immensely talented. But he is a loser. No backbone, no work ethic.
