So this should be a good one right? Do these teams have a chance to make it to the playoffs? What time is the game?

Mater Dei was rated #1 in the state (DLS was #2) until losing to Orange Lutheran.

I believe they would both be in the Pac 5 playoffs and for the state Bowl Games would be Division II.

It is 7:30 West coast TIme

It will be on channel 413 on comcast in the Bay Area.

Mater Dei up 14-0 very late in the first half

If MD wins, there will be a 3 way tie for the league championship and there will be coin flips to determine the #1, #2 and #3 seeds from the league for the playoffs

Good Hitting

There are some bells getting rung in this one. Good quick defenses. One play a Mater Die kid broke a tackle in the backfield and tried to jump over the defense, got hit in the air and got flipped hard. Wow! I believe this Mater Die team would handle Southlake. To quick on D and Barker is a pretty darn good QB.

I don't think they'd handle SLC. I don't think MD would be able to slow down SLC. It would be a high scoring game with SLC winning.

I dont see how either of you can make a comparison

SLC is basically a heavy passing team
Servite is almost exlcusively a running team

SLC defense has been questioned
Servite has a vg defense

so what MD does against Servite would be hard to gauge what they do against a team almost the complete opposite

I've seen Mater Dei 3 times live this year. I don't think they'd beat SLC.

SLC is not a heavy passing team in terms of play calling. This year SLC is running much more than passing. Over the years SLC's play calling is about 50-50 run/pass.

I'm wondering why the comparison to SLC? What about all of the other great teams in the country? Woody, do you have SLC on the brain?

I have no doubt that SLC could play with ANY team in the country right now. We would LOVE a rematch with MNW and would welcome the chance to play any/all of the other great national teams.

Last night SLC blew away Richland. The score was 37-0 by half time.

A few noteworthy points:
1. Tre Newton got hurt. He limped badly off the field in the first half and didn't return to the sidelines after halftime. Don't know how bad it is.
2. Blake Cantu also got hurt in the first half. He came back to the sidelines in the second half without pads.
3. SLC kicked a 48 yard FG. The kick had 5-10 yards more distance.
4. SLC's all-state linebacker, Derek Tomlin, played about 1/3 of the game after being injured for most of the season.
5. The pee-wee football players have already dyed their hair blond. Almost anybody and everybody who plays football in Southlake will become blond this week. SLC's first round playoff game is against Flower Mound (6-4) at 6:00 pm Friday night at Texas Stadium. SLC is playing in 5A Div 2.

Yawn

OMG the blond hair thing again. Anyhow, back to the topic. I was pretty impressed with the cali team tonight. Barker looked good and the d was hittin hard.

I saw a game on TV between 2 undefeated NCS teams. The QB on one team had thrown 29 passes in 9 games.

The other team was about the same.

That is a non-passing team.

Not a SLC team that is "down" to less than 50% pass attempts per offensive play.

Good grief.

"We would LOVE a rematch with MNW..."

Here we go with the spin game. By the time SLC rolls to another state title, all we will hear is SLC would defintively beat MNW in a rematch. LOL. Give it up, dad.

I laughed when I read that too

maybe they will cut their turnovers (5) and mishap on a punt to 4-5 instead of 6

lol

better try winnin games against also rans better than 49-42 before you start thumping your chest against national powers

slc had their chance against mnw

they did not come through

sorry

.

Do you think with the rash of injuries the outcome would be any different?

Its tough when you get a chance to finally play on the Nations biggest stage and the outcome is not what you wanted. Oh well maybe next time. If SLC and MNW both run the table what does that say about Florida vs Texas High School football?

I guess it all depends on your perspective. SLC runs more than it passes. If you want to call that a heavy passing team go right ahead.

Several of the key injuries happened before the MNW game. Three starters on the offensive line didn't play against MNW. One of the two returning defensive players didn't play against MNW. Most of the SLC players were starting their 2nd varsity game ever.

I'm confident that SLC can play with anybody in the country right now. The national pollsters (human) agree with me since they rank the national top 4 as:

1. MNW
2. StX
3. Katy
4. SLC

If they played again

MNW would not make stupid unforced errors and would win by more than 8. SLC is not gonna win Texas this year. Bet on it.

SLC would not give away 5 turnovers and would beat MNW by 10.

SLC may not win Texas this year but they should make the finals and play Katy for the title.

It appears you put a ton of weight on a game played in week 2. LOL

Go ahead and take your shots at SLC and at Texas football. However, any reasonable fan knows the real measure of a team is how they play in week 16 not week 2.

The playoff brackets are set. Woody, you've been saying SLC is not going to win Texas this year. YOU need to put your money where you mouth is. WHO is going to beat SLC before the state final game?

It's time to put up or shut up.

I've done it. Now it's your turn.

haha whats up with that I remember when my high school in texas played them freshman year they all had bleach blonde hair except for Newton and the other black kid.

so SLC is playing in the small school bracket again this year?

YAWN

not if they play a game against a top two team and you made 7 threads about it

it was slc's first chance to prove themselves on a national stage and they failed MISERABLY

why does the combined rankings show dls #2 and neither katy nor SLC in the top 4?

cherrypicking again daditis?

LOL You are a hoot. I love how you twist words. LOL

I quoted the result of EVERY human poll. Is that cherry picking? LOL

I excluded ONLY the Freeman model because it seems pretty bogus right now. They've got the best team in the nation ranked 50th. LOL If you want to include that poll be my guest. I think it's very reasonable to exclude it.
