Martin RPI

Not one team in the NW planned a season around the RPI that is for sure. But it appears to have come out about as expected. I have heard a few coaches make claims that a team may have been moved a spot up or down but not heard many complaints other then coaches of bad teams that feel a single win should have jumped them up 10 spots.
Liberty-Benton being the 4 seed did not make their coaches very thrilled. In their meeting he said "we are really big fans of Martin RPI" in a sarcastic tone.

Not sure he really has any complaint....other than the fact that they did beat Carey, who ended up the 3 seed. If they wouldn't have lost to a not very good Liberty Center team the night before the tourney draw they would have been at least the #3. They really didn't have one "good win" the entire season and their SOS was #145 compared to Carey at 97.

As it turned out they get Carey again if they beat Parkway in their first game, so it really didn't make any difference other than having possibly not gotten the bye. #2 Spencerville, #3 Carey and LB are all in the bottom half of the bracket so they won't see OG until the District final.

In that comparison, PS #23 and Carlisle 14th, keep in mind PS dominated Carlisle head-to-head on their own floor earlier this season. So maybe sos is weighted more than head-to-head? Actually, is head-to-head even considered @spirit454?
Dont think head to head can possibly be a factor.

A huge irony to RPI is the help in RPI Carlisle would have gotten in playing PS win or lose, the opponents win % factor got a huge lift.

Their opponents win percentage was still only 47% so it's not like playing one 19-3 team helped them too much lol

While I still hate the RPI as a seeding tool :) .....have to give this Martin guy huge props on his tournament coverage from gathering scores across the state to updating complete state-wide brackets. Well done!

If this happen would the tournament be seeding like football as the worst seed gets the best seed?

I think that is a better format than current system as right now best team gets two bottom teams, which means a lot of good teams play each other too early.

Update on PC. Martin has them 14. Only Max Preps has them in the top 10 (7). AP has them out of the top 10 as well.
The final AP (OPSWA) poll on 2/20 had them at 7.

Teams left as ranked by Martin:
D1 - 5/6/14/15/19/20/43/73
D2 - 1/3/5/18/21/22/55/58
D3 - 1/2/9/11/18/22/29/35
D4 - 1/4/6/7/8/27/29/39

No judgement here, just listing for discussion.

D1 final is between Martin's #14 (PC) and #15 (Hoban) ranked teams in Ohio. Nobody could have used the eye test to predict PC was one of the top teams in Ohio 😉

What is interesting about those numbers is the competitiveness of each division. The higher the division, the more parity we see.

Hoban surely did not think so, by the way they beat them yesterday.
Two Cinderella stories in the D1 final, what a season!

Hoban clearly thought PC was one of the better teams in Ohio bc they were locked in and prepared, while it looked like PC was basing their prep for Hoban on Martin's rankings!!

Obviously unfamiliar with Hoban as that is how they played most games this year going 25-3 before the final game. PC must have done that a few times as they had close games with Westerville South, Olentangy Orange and Centerville. Those 3 and Hoban must not have gotten your memo that PC was the best time in the state. :)

Curious to know. If you have access to past info. How many times did the #1 ranked team in state win the D1 title since 2000.

No time to research, just having some fun. Both teams had great seasons and were clearly better than their Martin and OPSWA rankings. As we all have agreed to, no ranking system is perfect.
