JD Bosco Visiting DLS in 08???

Palma HS of Salinas opted out of their 2008 contract with DLS, leaving DLS idle for wk 3. Recent rumor has John Don Bosco traveling from New Jersey to fill that void. I am a DLS guy, but want to stress that this is PURELY rumor at this stage. Nothing has been confirmed. Maybe some JDB guys will know more. It would be terrific if the game comes to pass.
There will probably be additional rumors before the void is filled, tho.

I heard the Palma coach indicated that the contract was never signed and that DLS was probably like many others trying to make a name for themselves.

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Don Roscoe P. Coletrain is supposed to play X in '08, I believe. They must have a great frequent flier plan.

I believe Palma already had a contract to play Dodge's Knob (Arkansas) that week.

The DLS game was never going to happen.

Yes, I read on the main football forum that Don Bosco from NJ is playing both X and DLS next year. There is a Bosco fan talking trash on the main football forum about Bosco beating X next year. X loses 19 starters and may lose a few games next year.

Colerain loses many players too and it is a tossup who will be the best team next year in SW Ohio.

It's Don Bosco Prep

St. John Bosco was referred to as Don (Italian for Father) Bosco. He was the founder of the Salesian Order. There is no such person as John Don Bosco. No offense but that is really ignorant and almost as bad as the South Carolina newspapers calling them Donnie Bosco (anyone seen Donnie Brasco lately?) LOL

They are the "Don Bosco Prep Ironmen," commonly referred to as Bosco, as in Bosco will roll St. X.

Still better than "Bong Disco" over on the NJ board!

A source close to the negotiations said Tuesday that the school was within 24 to 48 hours from making an announcement about the game. The source maintained the 2008 game is essentially down to "a few details that (De La Salle) wants to make sure are signed, sealed and delivered."

wow imagine that. waiting for all details to be worked out, signed sealed & delivered before running off half cocked and announcing to the world that you have a game. what'll they think of next? (...ahem...)

No kidding. How could DLS have had Palma on the schedule for so long when the deal was not done and Palma had the option to opt out of the game.

I can see where the DB staff might be wary to be working with such shady characters.

very weak pied. Palma stated that they got tired of getting their butts kicked and thought it better for their kids to opt out. Sounds like DLS & Palma had good communications going and that DLS rapidly moved to the first in (a very long) line. It's called a well oiled machine.

Others should take notice.

Seems to me, that Palma was on DLS' schedule until a couple of weeks ago. Palma decided that they did not want to play, for whatever the reason and are not going forward with the game and have not broken any contractural agreements in doing so.

Some people, not me might say that DLS jumped the gun in listing that game on their schedule since it was not a done deal.

Pied, if you're going to go out and talk trash, you might want to consider a little research rather than guessing at facts. Since you either a) did not read the article via the link above, or b) are simply not a good reader, I will provide the direct quote from the article:

"De La Salle got the opportunity to seek a new Week 3 opponent when Palma-Salinas asked out of its most recent home-and-home contract with the Spartans. De La Salle had played Palma each season since 2003, with the Spartans going 4-0-1 in those games."

You may want to take note of the operative word "CONTRACT" referenced above. To aide your comprehension I have capitalized and bolded the word for you.

If you are still not paying attention I will net it out for you:

  • Palma asked out of their contract.
  • DLS agrees to let them out of the contract - not the first time this has happened. Last time DLS scheduled LB Poly as the replacement.
  • DLS working to schedule DB - has not announced anything yet.

Now what was your point...?

Sorry to see that you take such great offense at the comparison to a certain TX school does not seem to understand contractual process.

It would be a.

I did not read that article. I read the article from the Californian linked from Spartanhood/NorCal.

In that article I read, it did not mention a signed contract oops.

I agree it was pretty weak, but it is just about the only thing going on this week. Just found the situation a little funny given the events of a year ago.

I guess this means at least two losses for the Iron Maidens.

---- yeah Don Bosco! I'm impressed... even with X's rediculous SOS next season, Don Bosco would have something to say about the SOS arguement... fortunately they can decide that on the field.

I think X has their work cut out for them for sure, but I wouldn't be so certain of a Bosco win PD, DASH and Hurley injuries among others should have been a sign that X can play even without seasoned vets, Scruggs anyone? Better hope the drumline doesn't decide to put on uniforms and whoop some _yeah

Ignorant??? Understand, Im a SoCal guy. In SoCal, there is a Bosco Tech, and a St John Bosco. Both Catholic boys HS. I mistakenly remembered JDB instead of DBP. I cross contaminated the three schools, the acronyms, etc. ----, Im 56, and the memory aint what it used to be. Regardless, I suspect that the vast majority of the readers knew exactly which school I was referring to. Lighten up, will ya?

That's always nice.

No offense, but you're an sweetie.

No offense, but everyone thinks you're a moron.

No offense, but you're useless.

I'm just saying.

Maybe we should report this to a moderator and get the thread closed. Looks like name calling to this reader.

Question for Don Bosco fans - Is there a financial sponsor for the game or it the booster club footing the bill?

I will make a point that because the because the paper said that DLS let them out of the contract does not make it factual. The DMN reported a scheduled game with DLS and school board approval of a contract. But apparently a contract did not exist. Evangel Christian claims to have had a contract for the 2007 Herbie, but obviously either that was not the case or contracts are not binding on the parties.
