Is it me, or does there appear to be a lot more coaching changes going on? If so, WHY? GBM
All kinds variables, This is probably biggest one I would guess -Time commitment to be successful keeps increasing and the pay and time away from ones family isnt worth it.- This year seems to have more openings than usual.

Right now, per IUDOGS, there's 57 coaching changes as of today. Without an exhaustive sifting through of previous threads, where one tallies the # of changes year-to-date over the off-seasons, it seems like 57 currently is par for the course in a state where there are ~709 head coaching positions.

After districts get through their January and February BOE meetings (ideally February is the last crest in the coaching carousel wave), that number might swell up to being in line with previous 3-digit turnover figures (although hopefully not!)

If it gets to the levels of 105-110 by season's end, that's pretty average per OP's tallies. Better than 125 ('18-19) and especially 145 ('14-15.)

Bingo. Time commitment increases but pay does not.
Bloom, the problem is that some where along the way coaches started committing more and more time, 7 on 7, summer work outs 5 days a week that last 3 or 4 hours and other coaches had to follow suit to keep up and be successful. If I were the state I would basically shut down everything during the summer other than lifting for a total of 8 hours a week. Conditioning can be done on the students own free time. I quit coaching for the 3rd time most recently when a coach gave me a schedule and basically told I had to predetermined weeks to take family vacay. No thank you, Ill work a side job here and there and make as much as a football stipend.

Agree with you 100%. The pressure to win from admin has forced coaches hands. They feel like they need to do anything in their power to win, and that means practicing more. I have also given up coaching for the exact same reason you have.

Definitely agree. It’s very difficult to be a HC and a teacher in today’s game. That’s why we keep seeing more and more HCs being assistant ADs (or ADs with a well paid Assistant AD) or Dean of Students etc.

It’s cool though, most of the schools I’ve been around (typically D3 and up) have:

1 principal
2-4 Asst. Principals
And a Dean of Students/Discipline
And a Spec Ed director
And a Curriculum Coordinator
And 15 secretaries to keep these Uber-busy people organized. Certainly not like the business world, but many of these admins get paid very well between salary and benefits. And when they say “well admin are contracted to work during the summer” , please stop by once a week over the Summer to your local district office, see how busy they are?.

I say start trimming the fat of some of these schools and start paying coaches for their actual time (to a certain degree).

lol where does this happen at? I have yet to see a D2 school with this type of baggage. Assistant principal is typically dean of students or AD is. Please share one school not D1 with this set up?
