Is it me or is the first picture of a basketball hoop on the long side of a hallway? Is that some sort of themed bedroom?

I'd spend a lot of time shooting around. So it definitely wouldn't be a waste of space. Year round hoops. Forget going outside in the summer when its hot. I'd play inside with the AC cranked or the heat in the winter.

I bet that's a balcony, and judging by the ten foot high hoop and the three point line I think it's a half court that looks small because it's kind of an optical illusion.

The photo is taken from a balcony? My eyes aren't making sense of it and if that's a ten foot hoop, looks like maybe a 15 foot ceiling? It's feel wierd shooting in there.

I like the second one but I'd probably ditch the acoustic tiles. McMansions have a lot of generally unused space, for parties and such. I'd rather a court than a reception hall so I can see putting on of these in but that flooring? Got to be pricey?

I think joe Montana has one of these in his private plan, along with a salaried nba official on board at all times to officiate games between Joe and the gophers.

If you look at the floor of the (I assume balcony), the hoop to the right appears to be at least a couple feet higher than that. Given that the floor of that "balcony" area has to be at least 8ft, it certainly appears to be a 10ft hoop. One of the pictures does show ceiling tiles knocked out of place, probably from big arc shots?

This ^ is how we play indoor basketball. We have an 8' x 7'h cased opening in a bearing wall between rooms. Plenty of room to fly by underneath after vicious nerf dunks by 10 and 11 yr olds. They think they're cool.....

An acquaintance built a huge house over looking a river, and it's location required a massive support system underneath. By upsizing beams, he was able to eliminate the central columns. Then, with some extra excavation, he was actually able to get a full size racquetball court under his house.

Now I get it. By following the orange around from below the hoop, it meets up with the floor in the foreground. I guess that makes that a balcony and makes it a ten foot hoop. That still only gives about 6ft above the hoop to the ceiling. I can't think I'd want that court.

It wouldn't matter if it was a 20 foot ceiling. I suck completely at B Ball.

Things I would rather have...

1. shooting range.
2. bowling alley.
3. pool
4. A disco themed bar for me and my friends. I gotta get my dance on.

A House of ill repute / that's for me! :)

I can't for the life of me see the "optical illusion" in the first picture that some posters have alluded to. It's quite clearly a picture of a basketball court taken from a balcony.

I only see the optical illusion looking at it zoomed out on my phone. Doing that makes it look like a hallway. Railing seems to be opening to foyer on the other side and hoop seemed mini. Zoomed in and could clearly tell it wasn't a hallway but actually a balcony overlooking court.

Ceiling still seems low so that high arching shots might hit which is dumb but it is clearly a properly sized backboard 10 feet off the ground.

How is it clearly 10'?

 Right, it's a crappy indoor court and the ceiling is nowhere near a reasonable height.

The orange part meets the second floor balcony, meaning about 8 feet. The hoop is a couple feet above the orange.

Looks like a pitching screen with the typical strike zone in the far corner, right ? I'd put the top of the orange pad around 7 feet.

What's so tough, e_perspectivechallenged ?

The hoop in the middle photo must be set on "everybody dunks". Most doors aren't 11' high.

One of my best friends has a full 1/2 court in their large equipment shed. Much easier than putting it in the house.
