The Indiana Hoosier Preseason Open takes place this Sunday, and Ohio looks to be well represented. Here's a list of Borofan ranked wrestlers that will be competing.

My son wrestled in this several years back and the final at his weight class was Mendez vs Bouzakis. Its a big boy tournament.

Noticing a lot of guys from Coffman,Lasalle, and Perry. Should be a good tourney to show where guys are at based on rank.

Lester 8th grader at Liberty MS just defeated Rohr at 109. By score of 12-11. Was up big and gave up big points late but held on. Good match

lester has been a very hard kid to predict an outcome for a long time
is he in 9th? man, time flies

I do not know WB personally, but as wrestling parent- to see what he did was an embarrassment (for him, his family, his team, and his state). Kid deserves to be more than just disqualified from a tournament.....IMO.
It was terrible behavior and a bad look for sure, but not the end of the world. IMHO, Ref needs to recognize that the match was getting increasingly chippy and lower the temperature. Coaches & Parents too! Nobody needs to get hurt in a preseason tourney.

What would you do to punish him? Prison? Expulsion from school? Hard labor?

This is just wrong to blame the official. Did you even watch the match? I would not describe it as chippy at all. No way that the official could have predicted that. The fact is that a head butt to the face, where he took two steps into it, was nothing more than an attempt to injure the other wrestler. If that happened anywhere else, other than on a wrestling mat, he would likely be facing legal consequences.

Yes, based on that behavior, he should face more than just being dq'd.

Skimming through the match, didn't look super chippy... Or at least I have seen much worse. Didn't have my sound on either. It also looked like there was plenty of downtime during the match for them to calm down. Certainly worth the DQ, but it also wasn't like he went in with full force or true intent to injure. Horrible sportsmanship, yes, but not assault... Not ref's fault either (very rarely is - they typically don't get the credit they deserve for putting up with us) - coaches, parents, everyone just needs to chill during these matches, the wrestlers feed off it. I barely say much when my son wrestles, even though my insides are always a jumbled mess.

Did anyone put together a summary of the Ohio wrestlers from the tournament? Just curious and too lazy to cross the brackets and Boro, etc. to figure it out and see if there were many upsets either way...

Legal consequences, you can't be serious? It wasn't a great look, but no reason to over react.

I'm not blaming the official, but I do think he could have controlled the mat a lot better. Let me explain what I'm seeing:
  • 5:30 (1:19 left) Ref makes call giving Warrick a 2-1 lead. He holds up 2, but doesn't signal reversal. Questionable call, IMHO ( I can see awarding an escape), Harrison coach approaches table for clarification. Takes a good minute to sort out the table confusion.
  • 6:51 (1:14 left) Brock chirps at Ref for stalling call, and mocks Warrick walking backwards. Warrick chirps back at Brock. Maybe there's a middle finger there, maybe not. They are alone in center of mat for 30 seconds chirping while Ref is at table. Why isn't there a Ref keeping the wrestlers in the center of the mat? a full 2 minutes pass while table confusion is sorted before the restart @ 7:48
  • 7:54 - Brock escapes, 1:08 left, :56 left Warrick in on single, they scramble, 8:26 Ref awards Warrick TD :34 seconds left. Score 4-2 Warrick
  • 8:48 (18 seconds left) Wrestlers go OB after the TD call. Harrison coach approaches the table for clarification of the call. The wrestlers are out of frame, Perry coach walks across the mat to get his athlete, Harrison coach on mat also. Not sure the issue. No blood, No IT? MP walks Warrick back to the center. Why are two coaches on the mat? Clock issue? MP coach slaps Warrick hard on back- I would assume to say something like "finish on top". They restart. Tough scramble.
  • 9:30 (clock at 0), whistle blows. They separate and Brock head buts Warrick, Warrick slaps back, coaches separate wrestlers, Brock and a parent chirp, Brock is held back again. Warrick pulled back. Parent is escorted away, Brock insists on shaking hands Warrick, pushes one coach away w/ other coach holding him by the elbow while Ref walks to table with back to the wrestlers. Harrison and MP coached shake hands.

Watch the whole match, but not the wrestlers. Watch Warricks dad in the back ground. He himself brought that all on. He abused Wyatt throughout the whole match with his words an jumping around like it was the state finals. You can see him being held back from Wyatt at the end, yet when I came over it was silent. The video don't lie. Wyatt lost his cool, that DAD one, good job. Wyatt will learn from this.

It was a heated match between Warrick and Brock, both very talented wrestlers, sure neither wants to lose, they arent in season shape and yeah that were jawing. Kids do dumb things and act dumb, but I was always told protect yourself when you walk on the mat or in between the lines. Reffing was suspect on a few takedowns, tempers get heated, its out of season wrestling, the show will still go on.
