Hubbard 2-3 at Niles 0-5

The Eagles soar into Niles badly needing points in this week 6 matchup between conference foes. The Hubbard starting defense has been lights out only surrendering 14 points over the past 3 games. Howland had a defensive td vs the eagles last week. Edgewood scored on the freshmen. Sorry McKinley fans but this has to be the week (young team or not) that the Eagles offense gets back on track and lights up the score board. The secondary will be tested as Niles likes to throw but the return of #8 (transfer sit out) will give Hubbard a huge boost in both the secondary and receiving corps. Look to see Hubbards speed break out vs a poor defense. Eagles 42-14.

If Niles is healthy ( and Lakeview beat them up pretty good), they will give Hubbard trouble with the pass game. First team we played that actually had good receivers. Hubbard should win , but is vulnerable to the pass game. Niles was also vulnerable to the pass game and we exploited it. Hubbard is not a good passing team. Interesting match up but Hubbard will edge Niles.

I don’t know if he takes himself seriously ^

Hubbard wins this game. Niles will wear down. Lost a couple of key guys vs east two weeks ago including their #1 receiver.

Ouch. My prediction is based off expectation. To be honest Niles baffles me year in and out. Last year they had veterans everywhere. QB, receivers, lines, defense, and folded. Easily had the talent to be a playoff team last season. This year they have a capable QB, probably the second best RB in the conference behind #7 from Struthers, and I'm sure more talent elsewhere. Normally by now dragon fans are calling for the coaches head in multiple forums. Is Shaner untouchable for that one playoff year his first or second year as coach over there? I expect Hubbard to win based on a weak Niles defense combined with a good chance to outplay and out coach our opponent this week. As far as skill goes Niles is usually near the top. Even with a young line I think good coaching would have the Dragons around .500 this year. Crazy.

Seems like shaner has given up.

Or he knows his job is safe. Maybe he has something on the board.

I think they went to the playoffs his first year with that great class. They went like 8-2 or 7-3 that year I know they lost to struthers and Hubbard. And Hubbard again.

Since then they’ve been on again off again and it always seems by week 4-6 they are done. Really strange. They even lost to East, a program in a constant state of rebuilding.

This game will be huge for that young line in Hubbard. They will get some confidence. Niles linebackers aren’t the best either.

Dragons have good skill offensively, but there O line is a train wreck. Niles hasn't played defense since Moby Dick was a minnow.

To be fair spread, Niles always struggles with East. Lost the last 2 out of 3. Even in the Niles playoff year the had to come from behind by 3 TDs to best East.

East always has the talent to give teams trouble. I know Hubbards had a few close battles with the golden bears. Not to get off topic but did you guys start the season with 3 sophomores on the o line spread? And is Hall a junior or senior?

Hall is a junior. And no. The all state senior center got hurt the first play of week 2.
3 sophomores. 1 junior who made his first start week 1 and 1 senior who is a 3 year starter.

Shame to hear about the center going down. Hall's pretty adequate and looks like he can make throws when need be. That'll be big not only this season but next year as well. Struthers this year kind of reminds me of 2012/2013 Hubbard. You're close. You guys will be able to line up and run Mitchell 30 times a game at will before you know it. Hall will be key come playoff time.

Ya they got a really good sophomore class right now coming up that should be pretty good.
We’ll see. I’m excited to see how to cats do vs Poland.

The only way Hubbard loses this game is if Hoffman kicks the entire offense off the team for protesting the national anthem.... but that won't happen and Hubbard will have more of a breakout game offensively to gain some
Confidence and try some new things.

If niles doesn't fire shaner he has to have something over someone's head over there in Trumbull county

There were a couple niles fans on here, I woulda became uninterested in this site as long as shaner is there lol

I always thought Hubbard/Niles could have been a perfect rivalry. It started to become one when Niles had Stefan Yuhasz as their duel threat QB and they ended up playing Hubbard twice that one year. I heard when the pairings came out and they found out they were playing Hubbard again, their whole team started cheering for another shot at the Eagles. They certainly have one of the nicest stadiums in the Valley. Hubbard and Niles both got turf the same year.

I wish Niles good luck, just not this Friday. :thumb:

Not much to talk about this year for Niles

Defense is bad as usual

And the offense isn’t much better this year

Niles is lacking playmakers... aside from Savin and Johns

I have a feeling they don’t win a game till week 9

savin has not had much room to run this year with nagging injury and with the line being young their QB soda has taking a beating. But both along with johns has put up decent numbers but hubbard gets the win here

The parents of the athletes are just as much to blame here

When parents put it in the kids heads that everything they do wrong is someones fault other then their own

Wheres the accountability ???

Whether the coaches are good or bad the players still have to perform on the field
